Online retail sales on "Cyber Monday" are set to reach a new record, with rivals Amazon.com and Walmart.com set to be the prime beneficiaries, according to industry experts. The web tracking firm comScore estimated that $900 million was spent online on Monday.

Coolforsale did it!

Kudos!

I hate shopping - although online is getting more and more of my attention...and money~! Best deals on books right now at Amazon.com.

This news sucks.

The Right

As obvious by Nanc and I's comment. We are clearly rooting against the economy for political points. Very insightful!

I'm not rooting against the economy and the month of December is no different than any other month in our household other than it's the time our children decide what to do with the money they've put into their collective "charity" jar throughout the year. They already received their "big" gifts for the year a couple of months ago.

Actually, it's not good news, considering that online shopping sends money out of a local economy even faster than Wal-Mart does.

Ha!

Yeah, it's amazing how many people will fall for those chicom knockoffs!

#6 - walmart has "site to store" online shopping - you can order just about anything not available at your local walmart and VOILA in a day or two it's at the store - online shopping and it's FREEFREEFREE!

Speaking of chicom knockoffs, along comes Skank to shill for Wallfart.

Let me axe you 'dis, did someone fart? It got stinky in here all of a sudden - must turn off my scratch and sniff monitor!

Check out the Black Friday righty comments, Andy.

#6 - I disagree with that idea. I shop a number of local websites in my area, many are operated by people that I know. Granted, living in a metro area makes that easier for me than those that live in small towns.

Also, if you buy from Amazon there is a good chance you are buying from one of their partners, many of which are small retailers so in buying from them it is more likely that you are creating more jobs than buying from a more automated company such as wal-mart. Those jobs may not be local to your area but they are local to someone, most often someone in the US.

Some people enjoy staying up to shop at midnight to save 10% at a local store. I prefer to shop online and get what I need when I need it.

Amazon does most of its distribution out of Kentucky, where I live, so when I buy from Amazon, I'm supporting local business! Same thing with Zappo's and other companies that do a lot of shipping. That's because UPS's global air hub is located here.

by the same logic, you are doing the same thing when you buy health insurance from Humana.

:-)

#15 - Damn right, Eb! In fact, Mrs. CBOB works for Big Insurance, as does a very close friend. I've met Humana founder David Jones, and he's a low-key, decent guy who does a hell of a lot for this town. I've had my differences with Humana, but I refuse to broadbrush them as evil ogres.

I bought a ton of shit online friday and monday. Most of the big deals you could get by going out at 4AM on friday are available online the night before. I'd rather sit on my couch with a beer than deal with 1,000 angry soccer moms.

We're losing money and we won't be able to pay our bills.

The States

Remember for every Dollar You spend locally You are in effect spending 6 Dollars. So when You shop online You are depriving Your locality 6 bucks for every dollar that You spend.
