This is the problem I have with most people in this argument. You state it broadly as global warming, but the issue is really so called man-made global warming, which according to a meteorologist friend is the subject of a lot of debate amongst climatologists. He also says, however, that the fact that the Earth is warming is not debated, just the cause.

So which is it Larry and JeffJ? Do you disbelieve global warming all together or man-made global warming?

Also, Larry, if you really think your analogy to the mafia is in any way accurate, you're showing yourself to be even more clueless than I gave you credit for.

For the sake of argument, let's assume all of these climate change models are perfectly accurate (I know - bear with me). If Kyoto was signed onto 100% AND all of the signatories met their objectives, the warming we'd experience by 2100 would be delayed to....hold onto your shorts...2105!

Over a trillion dollars pissed away in order to purchase 5 years over the next 90 years.

Stupid.

It's shit like this that makes Nobel Prize winner Al Gore into such an assclown.

I think the degree to which the globe is warming has been overstated - based upon the entirety of the evidence presented; not the least of which that as much as 90% of the modern weather-stations are not up-to-code: erected too close to blacktop, too close to AC heat vents, etc. Those codes exist for a reason.

Fair enough. I've often heard arguments based on sensor placements, but haven't seen any links to verify it. Where have you gotten this information?

I don't believe that at all. Scientists are still human after all.

However, given the way the system works, out right fraud is often hard to get away with and the system is self-correcting.

Of course, this is from a biologists point of view, so things could be different in climate sciences, but I've yet to see or hear anything to indicate it is any different.

I firmly believe in Global Warming. It's called Spring and Summer. I also believe in Global Cooling it's called fall and winter. Do I believe in this BULLSHIT called Global Warming that is espoused by people today?? Absolutely NOT. Listen Mother Nature is a fickle menopausal bitch all Her life. Some Years it's hotter than others some years it's colder than others. It all evens out in the wash.

When ever you have a billion dollars of science research at stake, you will have scientist who fudge data.

Scientist are humman just like everyone else.

Look at the hurricanes predicted for 2009, the Climatologist were way off. So now you want me to shift the whole worlds economy based on Global Warming science when they can't even accurately predict hurricanes.

The poeple who are pushing this will either gain power or money or both, and that has in the past tainted the science.

In my previous post on Climategate I blithely said that nothing in the climate science email dump surprised me much. Having waded more deeply over the weekend I take that back.

The closed-mindedness of these supposed men of science, their willingness to go to any lengths to defend a preconceived message, is surprising even to me. The stink of intellectual corruption is overpowering. And, as Christopher Booker argues, this scandal is not at the margins of the politicised IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] process. It is not tangential to the policy prescriptions emanating from what David Henderson called the environmental policy milieu [subscription required]. It goes to the core of that process.

One theme, in addition to those already mentioned about the suppression of dissent, the suppression of data and methods, and the suppression of the unvarnished truth, comes through especially strongly: plain statistical incompetence. This is something that Henderson's study raised, and it was also emphasised in the Wegman report on the Hockey Stick, and in other independent studies of the Hockey Stick controversy. Of course it is also an ongoing issue in Steve McIntyre's campaign to get hold of data and methods. Nonetheless I had given it insufficient weight. Climate scientists lean very heavily on statistical methods, but they are not necessarily statisticians. Some of the correspondents in these emails appear to be out of their depth. This would explain their anxiety about having statisticians, rather than their climate-science buddies, crawl over their work.

I'm also surprised by the IPCC's response. Amid the self-justification, I had hoped for a word of apology, or even of censure. (George Monbiot called for Phil Jones to resign, for crying out loud.) At any rate I had expected no more than ordinary evasion. The declaration from Rajendra Pachauri that the emails confirm all is as it should be is stunning. Science at its best. Science as it should be. Good lord. This is pure George Orwell. And these guys call the other side "deniers".

That covers the Z-man, who is now hiding under his desk, praying his pool comes up with something..........anything.

Obviously not. But if they say that any warming taking place is man made then I disagree with you and believe that the jury is still out on that verdict.

We have just been given proof that it has happened. There is no telling of the magnitude that it could be taking place at. If it has happened with these scientists, I see no reason why it wouldn't have happened with other scientists. I've always believed MMGW to be a scam and these emails show that I am not necessarily wrong.

All we've got is reason to suspect the individuals in question and even then some analysis doesn't find "a smoking gun" if I remember correctly. To take this incident and apply it to the entirety of climate science is as intellectually dishonest as the guys we're talking about.

I didn't say it should be applied to the entire science community. I said that with the revealing of these emails there is now no telling how many other people might have been involved in the same way. That is not an unreasonable thing to think.

So Jones managed to get 22 million dollars in grant money--free money --to cook the books--tell others to cook their books.

People have done a lot worse for a lot less money.

Heck there is a guy who staged his suicide to look like a murder for --money!

We can't control the weather of Earth. GW or GC are going to happen no matter what we do.

All of this made up bs is for some people or countries to gain the system, use it for their own personal gain.

Why hasn't Gore put out a press release?
