Yet another example of fundamentalists and their zeal to erase all but their own creed.

Frightening, but predictable IMO.

"In March 2001, Taliban militants in neighbouring Afghanistan blew up two 1,500-year-old Bamiyan Buddha statues in defiance of international appeals.

The Islamist militia has since spread into Pakistan. Their opposition to music, art, dance, girls' education and idolatry makes archaeologists fear that Pakistani Buddhist relics are in the eye of the storm.

Italian archaeologists were active in Pakistan's northwest Swat valley from 1956 until they reluctantly discontinued work in 2007 after Taliban fighters led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah rose up demanding sharia law."

Aaaaah, Sharia law. It rolls off the tongue doesn't it?

SHA-REEE-AAA.

terrible!

all these artifacts have to be maintained... and its not islam.

thats why these ignorant bafoons have to be taken out.

hopefully the pakistani military gets rid of these sharia loving bitches.

AGREED!

Our world heritage is always at threat from people like these.

The victor writes the history, but the have to destroy it first.

This is old news. The taliban have been ousted from Swat valley, as they are being ousted from Waziristan.

The Buddhist heritage is safe.

And oh... I noticed this is from "Hindustan Times" (Indian source).

Disregard as garbage.

Hey Toss.

why would pakistan need Italian Archeologists.

aren't there any Pakistani-Indiana Jones?

aren't there any Pakistani-Indiana Jones?

The problem klifferd, is that Pakistan refuses to utilize the services of anyone with the word "India" embedded in their name.

hahha...

why would pakistan need Italian Archeologists.

I attended a seminar once at Karachi University with faculty from some large Italian university as guests. They were discussing a 5000 year old arms factory which was found in Sind area.

It seems that not only Italians, but other European institutions have keen interest in archaeology in Pakistan.

This place was the very last outpost of the Greek Empire under Alexander and around 30 million of us are of Greek ancestry (me included). As you know, Pathans are basically Greeks, mixed with Mongols and Huns.

So many European universities have partnerships and joint research projects with ours universities.

And then there are our Eastern brothers.... they view Pakistan as the birth place of Lord Buddha and the birthplace of Buddhism, which it was.

Pakistan was always a Buddhist country (the first one in the world), while India was always Hindu.

This place was part of the Kushan Empire, which was basically Buddhist and Chinese mixed with Greek culture.

en.wikipedia.org

So all the world's cultures, EAST and WEST mixed HERE.

No wonder they are interested.

indus river valley bitches!!

aren't there any Pakistani-Indiana Jones?

There are.

One of the more famous ones is from my family.

And no, I would not like to tell anyone who... my family is very well known and everyone will know who I am and where I live.

there are 20 million people in karachi toss,

you think anyone on this board except with the exception of maybe Goat will know how to navigate karachi??

hahahha

you think anyone on this board except with the exception of maybe Goat will know how to navigate karachi??

Goatee won't be able to navigate either, but then I have figured Goatee out.

He would rather enjoy getting lost and then make a game of finding his way back. It's amusing for him.... like some treasure hunt adventure.

It's true, I wouldn't have a clue how to navigate Karachi. I took a cab in my very few excursions away from the pier.

....my family is very well known and everyone will know who I am and where I live.

Sounds like they do, then

a cab or a rikshaw?

I wouldn't have a clue how to navigate Karachi.

I have lived here all my life and I haven't seen most of Karachi. LOL

I just stick to the regular places.

Yet another example of fundamentalists and their zeal to erase all but their own creed.

Sort of like a bacon-free response to the annual war on Christmas? But it sounds like these guys may pass the GOP purity test.

Silly Taliban.
Like the Buddha cares.

Fuck caves, try meditating on a planet killer starship with nothing but your own poetry for a few decades.

Dover Beach - Matthew Arnold

The sea is calm to-night.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand;
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the A gaean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

"I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion. I have shudder'd at it. I shudder no more. I could be martyr'd for my religion. Love is my religion. And I could die for that. I could die for you."

John Keats

You stupid fuck.

I have flagged you for spamming.

This isn't a shopping site.

The Indians from the Temple of Doom ripped out his heart to appease Kali.
