I think it's a lot like adoption we can't find out who our birth parents are either. They even change the birth certificate. While I am vaguely interested I am not that worked up by it. I can understand a birth father or mother not wanting to be reminded of their past after so many years.

Here I am kids.

All children have a right to know who their real fathers are.

Like, me too Grumpy. Kids weren't party to any contract of secrecy and have every right to know who their biological parents are. Do not bring offspring into this world if you somehow think that offspring will have fewer rights than you do.

These adopted children or whatever they are should not waste their time trying to find out who their sperm infinitesimal 23 chromosome donor was. They have a degree of freedom they don't even appreciate. They can be whoever they want to be and don't have any excuse of having messed up parents to hold them back mentally.

Yet another reason for sperm donation to be verboten. If a couple can't conceive naturally either adopt or live with the fact and single women have no business purposely pursuing single parenthood anyways.

I feel, (not think) that sperm doners are quite different from Love children who were given up to adoptive parents.

But for either, medical records must be provided.

Bio-folks should be contacted by third party agent telling them that a child is trying to make contact with them. If parrent says no, or, not now, thats it. Bio folks should provide medical history as a legal minimum.

Exactly, let them pay for their own DNA test which will tell them within 99% if they're half brothers or not.

No sensible guy is going to donate sperm if he thinks 16-18 years later he's going to have some kid tracking him down. Sperm donors are jacking off into a cup for money, they aren't trying to start a family.

So what this "child's rights" movement is going to do is make it so that the only sperm donors will be morons who can't think beyond the $50 (or whatever it is) they are getting to donate.

Fine by me, to be honest. But I'm sure women who use donated sperm for whatever reason would like there to be some kind of chance that the DNA they are using didn't come from a complete idiot.

I find it perfectly reasonable for these kids to want to know what their dad is like. It is where half of their genes came from. I don't think I'd like to be a sperm donor who was looked up by his kids though. Well, who knows? It could turn out to be very healthy for all parties.
