Four North Carolina patients at a single hospital tested positive for a type of swine flu that is resistant to Tamiflu -- and three have died. All four cases were very ill patients in an isolated cancer unit, and it is believed they all caught the flu while at the hospital, said Dr. Daniel Sexton, professor of medicine and director of the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network.

Ah, the survival of some of the tiniest life forms among us.

I told everyone all it would take is my daughter to get it she would be better in about 12 hours but would mutate it to kill us all. She always does that gets a cold, is better in 6 hours and the rest of the family and anyone who comes into contact with her is sick for 4 days. Figures she would be the one to mutate swine flu to deadly proportions.

If your curious as to how I make this flying leap of logic it's cause we live close to duke and she had the sniffles for a few hours a week or two weeks ago.

here it comes (maybe)...
The Andromeda Strain, circa 2009

To put in perspective how overblown this Swine Flu hysteria is:
In the past 300 days, there have been 78,750,570 deaths worldwide due to a variety of causes.
8,118 deaths due to Swine Flu
20,000 deaths due to prescription drug overdose.

To think you can get healthy by poisoning yourself is nuts! This country suffers from an epidemic of sheep who can't think for themselves, who passively let government and corporate interests do their thinking for them.

It'll probably be more like Captain Trips

I've just been in bed for most of the week with this damned thing and am still pretty wiped out from it...and I think I had a mild case. Man it sucked, especially when you have asthma.

I'll listen to my Doctor over you Ray. I took the vaccine.

Ironically, I'm re-reading that book now for about the 15th time.

I'd get the vaccine, but they're trying to make it so fast, I'm concerned quality and production shortcuts will be made.

#10, LOL! Read it the first time in 1978 and re-read it every few years. The unabridged edition came out about 10 years ago. The book is between 1500 and 2000 pages.

There are about 10 main characters and dozens of minor characters that play vital roles in the plot as well.

Ray,

Your argument that flu deaths are insignificant can also be applied to 'terrorist' activities. How many people were killed by terrorists in the US in the past 10 years? How many Depends have been sold because of the grossly exaggerated TERROR BULLSHIT spread by the Senator from Aetna/Israel and his butt-buddies in politics and the media?

Who are the REAL terrorists?

Who are the REAL terrorists?

Our own government. Because fear propaganda works.

I'll listen to my Doctor over you Ray. I took the vaccine.

I hope so. You deserve it.

I hope so. You deserve it.

Ray's hateful response is telling.

The proponents of sound public health policy bring facts to the table. The anti vaccine movement brings incoherent babble, superstition, and spite.

That's nothing compared to what Jackass says about me. But of course in your mind, Jackass made the right decision.

That's standard parrot talk. As usual the poison peddler ignores the lethal side of prescription medicine which is more dangerous than the flu. All I see is fear mongering for what has been a relatively mild flu season.

mms 2 working great...

That's standard parrot talk.

Of course, since Ray is an "expert" on critical thinking and all.

As usual the poison peddler ignores the lethal side of prescription medicine which is more dangerous than the flu.

And you ignore the fact that most deaths from medicine are not caused by the medicine, but by human error.

All I see is fear mongering for what has been a relatively mild flu season.

Who gives a shit what you see, you're an idiot who just wants to be contrary to anything and everything he views as "government."

Everyone I know who's had this thing says it was nothing like any other flu they've had.

And you ignore the fact that most deaths from medicine are not caused by the medicine, but by human error.

HAHAHAHA! Excuses excuses.

Who gives a shit what you see, you're an idiot who just wants to be contrary to anything and everything he views as "government."

HAHAHAHA! They only fuck up everything they touch.

What a drone!

Everyone I know who's had this thing says it was nothing like any other flu they've had.

Then they must have survived.

8,118 flu deaths worldwide in 300 days. Whooo. Scary!

Orderlies, get out the strait jacket and pepper spray. This one might be difficult.

Thank goodness Tamiflu Plus will only cost a the same amount as lifetime incarceration.

Tamiflu is a joke. It is barely effective and the side effects are quite profound.

This new mutated form of the flue has no vaccine yet, so naturally there is no media hype yet. The big pharmaceuticals haven't got a handle on it yet. They will if it spreads and you will all take your medicine again, and then after you all paid, it will come out that it was a manufactured strain by guess who?

Oops, I forgot, most folks can't imagine who.

Ooh, Ooh I know, I know! It was Bush and his friends in Big Medicine! Yeah, So the Evil Republicans can pass a Trillion Dollar Health Care bill and get control of 20% of the American economy. Just like they did when they passed Medicare and Social Security. And then they'll tell you it's all going into a "Lock Box" to be stored and protected until "You" need it, when in reality it all goes into the general fund and they spend it on whatever they want! This BUSH is the worst President ever elected for a third term!

Yea, well like the story goes, you knew he was a snake when you accepted the ride.

That was sarcasm. Sorry you missed it. Wait right here, I'll see if I can find that clue you were looking for.

That's why flu vaccines are a joke. They're always a year late.

I know let's put a special tax on all the vaccine makers. THAT will show those bastards. it's the zero's way!!!

Besides who care about

Polio

Rubella

Measles

Diphtheria

hepatitis B + C

Whooping Cough

Tetanus

Certainly most if not all here have been vaccinated against these scourges. So you don't care about them. You should be thankful.

As for a swine flu vaccine? Easy to say those 8,000 deaths are irrelevant. Flu season hasn't even started. If it goes up to 80K, would you then be concerned?

No chance. That 8,000 counts the southern hemisphere which just passed through its flu season. H1N1 is not the only virus infecting people. If the death toll were to reach 80K, it was from strains for which there is no vaccine.

The primary reason why we have a flu season has to do with the sun, from which our skin manufactures Vitamin D. Anyone can get similar protection by taking 5,000 units of Vitamin D daily.

looking that way....unless the Fed gets reined in

The primary reason why we have a flu season has to do with the sun, from which our skin manufactures Vitamin D.

Right. And it has nothing to do with people being in close quarters and the different effects of humidity and temperature on the virus outside of the body.

It's just lack of vitamin D.

This new mutated form of the flue has no vaccine yet

What the hell are you moonbats talking about?

None of the "mutant" H1N1 isolates have unique sequences in the regions recognized by antibodies. The mutations are interesting and some may alter virulence, host range, or transmissibility, but they are not rendering the vaccine useless or sustaining long chains of transmission between hosts.

The flu has to circulate in a thoroughly vaccinated or otherwise immune population before you get selection for mutants that are not covered by your immune system's memory of previous infection.

The big pharmaceuticals haven't got a handle on it yet.

The anti-vaccine community may pride itself on being "nonconformist," but they certainly fit one pattern: they routinely comment on issues about which they are entirely ignorant. The pharmaceutical industry has two approved anti-influenza medications and at least one more that I know of is in the pipeline. The vaccines are quite effective and well tolerated.

Tamiflu is not an "evil" drug, but it has been used irresponsibly. Tamiflu has been rampantly overprescribed since the flu pandemic began - especially in the UK. Their government passes it out like candy. The evolution and sustained transmission of resistant viruses is inevitable, and it is hastened by foolishness. It doesn't make Tamiflu a bad drug, though.

Aspirin kills 400% more people than H1N1 swine flu
By: poorrichard

The CDC now reports that nearly 4,000 Americans have been killed by H1N1 swine flu. This number is supposed to sound big and scary, motivating millions of people to go out and pay good money to be injected with untested, unproven H1N1 vaccines. But let's put the number in perspective: Did you know that more than four times as many people are killed each year by common NSAID painkillers like aspirin?
