Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The human capacity for self-delusion never ceases to amaze me, so it shouldn't surprise me that so many Republicans seem to genuinely believe that they are the party of fiscal responsibility. Perhaps at one time they were, but those days are long gone.

This fact became blindingly obvious to me six years ago this month when a Republican president and a Republican Congress enacted the Medicare drug benefit, which former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker has called "the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s."

They are all hypocrits.

The Dems justify creating 10 trillion dollar deficits by pointing out that Bush and the Repugs created a 3 trillion dollar deficit.

If the medicare drug benefit is "the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s" what does that say about what the Dems are doing? Might they be the most irresponsible (hypocritical) group in history?

how big was the herr bush increase to the national debt? dig deeper. lets try some facts

I doubt many people who vote, hoping for Democratic control of government, expect to have their taxes cut or see a reduction in spending. They tend, I suspect, to be interested in the idea of the common good first and monetary cost only, at best, secondarily.

Republicans I've known are a different breed. They're always whining about how much something costs, just so long as it isn't something that benefits them -- although there are exceptions there, too: they'll piss and moan about how much it costs to get the garbage picked up.

Where the Republicans have stepped in it a good deal more than once is letting their bloviating rhetoric whizz past the reality of how they govern. They govern miserably.

George, I assume you know the difference between National Debt and Budget Deficits.

So, National Debt...

In 2001 $5.6T
2009 $10.6T... Increase of $5T
Current $12T... So in 10 Months Obama and the Dems have increased the Debt by $1.4T or 28% of what Bush generated in 8 years. If the trend continues in 8 years the Dems will generate $13.4T national debt. This does not include the second stimulus people are talking about or what the HC bill will add to the deficit and national debt.

So by whatever number you want to use, Obama and the Dems are on track to do far more damage to our contry tham Bush and the Repubs.

As I have said many times, in the end history will show that Obama and the Dems did far more harm to our country than Bush and the Repubs.

your first post you say 3 trillion, second post 5 trillion. why lie? cant you deal with the truth and facts? see why you are not believed? And yes I know the difference. I also know that herr bush on the submission of HIS 2009 budget admitted that it was underfunded by 1.2 trillion. But what are facts to the party of lies fear and hate. Make a pledge to move over to the truth. it will feel good, honest

George... they are two different numbers. Deficit is the shortfall in the budget. Debt is how much we have to borrow to keep the gov running.

The reason one is 3 and the other is 5 is because they are two different numbers.

Don't be lazy.. You can google the numbers for yourself.. Or go to Wikipedia and read about the difference between the two numbers.

My point stands, by either measure Deficit or Debt the Dems are doing far more damage than the Repubs.

re read the header of this thread. give the truth a chance. you might like to lie, but the truth is good for the country

Republican Deficit Hypocrisy

You are absolutely right. Now where do we go from here?

Congress spends the money. Look at who ran congress and compare that to the national debt to get an accurate picture.

Obama and his followers think there is a common good? Very short term (presently unrealized if ever) gains. The spending is so short sighted that we may never recover from the moutain of debt. Other countries that hold our debt will not be so kind like we have been to people who take take take and are never held resposible. You can't blame them, It is the give it away democrats. Make people responsible and stop bailing out, stop $8,000 here, $6,500 here, $4,500 here programs. That's my money and I am sick of it being "given" away. Make them f'n earn it.

only a godamn democrat can take a 450 billion deficit, quadruple it, and then attack the people who even raise a question about the trillion plus

and the debt now is over 12 trillion

remember the GOOD OLD DAYS when posters here didnt like these two things being run up?

"only a godamn democrat can take a 450 billion deficit, quadruple it, and then attack the people who even raise a question about the trillion plus"

Only a god damned liar could accuse the Democrats of doing that. Did you even bother to read the article of did you just start attacking Godamn Democrats like usual. YOu are a joke.

"Pay as you go!"

-- Democrats, circa 2006.

They are all hypocrites. Replace 'em all.

The problem with your argument,Danni, is the fact that the original post is true. Bush was practically crucified for pushing the deficit to 450 B. Now that Obama has pushed it to almost 1.5 T, we're supposed to ignore it. Republicans are certainly hypocrites, but the Democrats are making it so they can never again argue about huge deficits. They will also have to vote, very, very soon, on increasing the debt ceiling. That will be fun to watch.
