Time for your next wackjob conspiracy theory babbler.

And Nanc chimes right wing ding in.

A failed presidency is now unavoidable
Monty Pelerin

For the past couple of months I have worried about the risks of a failed presidency. No one should want this, regardless of party affiliation. It is harmful and dangerous to our economy and country. However, it appears obvious to me that the royal regime known as Obama has ended.

Seth Leibsohn writing in the National Review summarized it this way:

"This is reminiscent of the Jimmy Carter years - the last time the U.S. was seen as weak - unable to move and coax other countries, unable to reassure dependent allies, unable to have the respect of the world and, of course, unable to move the mullocracy of Iran."

Even the liberal media are beginning to question the effectiveness of the President. The media, in full Camelot mode, are slow to react and often lag what the populace started to recognize months ago. Quotes like these, however, suggest they are not far behind.

The NYT reports: "China held firm against most American demands. With China's micro-management of Mr. Obama's appearances in the country, the trip did more to showcase China's ability to push back against outside pressure than it did to advance the main issues on Mr. Obama's agenda, analysts said."

The Washington Post: "If there was any significant change during this trip, in fact, it was in the United States' newly conciliatory and sometimes laudatory tone. . . . Obama's trip stood in stark contrast to visits by his predecessors."

The Times stated that Obama was given "less respect than was given presidents Bush or Clinton."

All of the above quotes can be found in this highly recommended post by Seth Leibsohn. He concluded his piece:

"Not a very good first year for America, or the world, under a new leadership that promised a new respect, a new start, and a new way of doing business. It's new alright - it just isn't any good."

We have a failed presidency that cannot be retrieved. The dream cannot be rebuilt because there was never a foundation to begin with. It was all show and no substance. Yes, it created much excitement and (false) hope. But so did Elmer Gantry and James Jones. However, the image was akin to an old Hollywood set, all facade and no depth. Now the winds of reality are slowly and inexorably tearing the facade away.

The politicians in Congress see these same signs and read the polls. At this point they are trying to decide what is least dangerous for their individual careers. For the Republicans that probably means pouring gasoline on Obama's burning ship of state. For the Democrats, it is a more difficult problem. Ultimately, I believe they will abandon ship. Politicians of both parties are like rats; they are survivors. All politicians will take that course which they believe gives them the best chance for individual survival. Loyalty be damned.

Hang on, this will be a rough period ahead.

what unkind even insulting words from the media?

$50,000 to clean up a 2 oz mercury spill (Updated)
Larrey Anderson

George Orwell where are you? Here is the headline in my local newspaper today: "Mercury Removal from T.F. [Twin Falls, Idaho] Apartment complex results in $50,000 bill." That's right - fifty grand.
Two ounces of mercury were found in the road that leads into an apartment complex. It cost local, state, and the federal governments $50,000 to clean up the two ounce catastrophe. Read the EPA report here.

This is a picture of the clean up crew:

The use of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) will soon be mandatory in the United States. And CFLs contain what? What? Say it louder: MERCURY.

You can expect the cleanup crew in the picture to be coming to your house - to help you clean up a broken light bulb.

Congratulations America. And welcome to George Orwell's worst nightmare.

Update:

The EPA report states the amount of mercury was 2 teaspoons. An ounce is 6 teaspoons. (Who knew? I thought a teaspoon equaled an ounce. Do not eat anything I have cooked from a menu.) So the actual amount of spilled mercury was less than one ounce.

A failed presidency is now unavoidable

Bush get's 50 years to be judged.

Obama 11 months.

No double standard at all.

in order to save the country from terrorists we must be ready to fight for our country, and prepare to destroy our enemies both foreign and domestic...

and if our country is run by terrorist sympathizing marxists like obama, we should not hesitate in overthrowing them...

but that would mean attacking our own country....

which would make those who particpate terrorists...

so perhaps everyone who truly wants to save this country should premptively kill themselves before they have the opportunity to attack it...

The priorities have changed:

"Sir, put your hands in the air and step away from the guitar"

Two stories in this mornings papers clearly demonstrate where the priorities of the Obama administration lie. First, the Washington Times reports that enforcement against illegal aliens in the workplace has dropped dramatically - arrests are down 50% from last year.

The figures show that Mr. Obama has made good on his pledge to shift enforcement away from going after illegal immigrant workers themselves - but at the expense of Americans' jobs...

Yet the government seems to have the time to conduct raids on guitar manufacturer Gibson over their alleged use of "endangered woods"

Just stopped by to say that, even though Wisgod returns tomorrow, I will not. I have really enjoyed my time away from this and wish to extend it further. I have no honest idea how long my vacation will last, but it will go on more. Have fun kids.

But, but, K!

we didn't really mean all those things we said while you gone... really!

Good luck, buddy.

I was talked about while I was gone? Nifty! I didn't think anyone noticed.

It appears he's saying the same thing you said to people in response to the article about the child that was made to cry for a TV commercial.

I almost forgot about that thread. I have to admit that I've since updated my position on that topic somewhat. I took a video of my daughter at just a few months old crying on the floor before picking her up to console her. About 30 seconds. You can hear me laughing in the background. I did and still do feel like a jerk for it... but it is an awesome video.

But you didn't purposefully make her cry so that you could shoot the video, did you?

Hurry back, I love watching people get angry about fence sitters.

Lisa is not going to be happy.

BTW, your name was used as a synonym for "fence" while you were gone.

In your honor, of course.

Looks like Manypaths is taking a hiatus too. Good luck.

Noticed what? Oh....

Several posters threatened suicide unless you returned.... but we managed to talk takeitez and Tosser down.

No. Doesn't feel like a distinction with much difference to me though. I still feel like a heel, even as I laugh hysterically.

I have really enjoyed my time away from this and wish to extend it further.

Have you ever thought about going down in an incomprehensibly offensive blaze of glory? That's definitely one way to extend your vacation.

Not in your character, though. Take care, kanrei.

Can't be too sure about takeitez.

Can't be too sure about takeitez.

You don't talk people like that down. You sedate them.

Hagbard even dedicated a Robert Frost quote to you, K......

-but it is an awesome video.

I can't even watch those "funny video" shows on TV that are mostly about children falling down and crying...... makes me want to throw things.

I imagine myself knocking over the parent taking the video to pick up their kid for them.

My parents LOVE those shows. I have a very vivid memory of being in my bedroom listening to the sound of them laughing hysterically in the living room.

Its actually not surprising if you knew them.

Dumbshit finally accpeted the offer of a ride home, and hopped in the van.

AmericanUnity tricked him in to the van. He was using his "NextlevelUp" handle at the time.

Whatever happened to Bowa,

Bowa became Loki who declared victory in Iraq and moved there to open a RudiG thong store in the Baghdad market MCain and his armored division body guard claimed was safer than Indiana.

Helppppppppppppppp Dumb question do You pull out a dishwasher to get to the hoses or do You access the hoses through the bottom kick panel door?? Any clues??

Larry

Larry - depends upon which end the hose is fractured - turn the water off under the sink first thing! Then pull it out and have a look see.

It depends on the dishwasher and which hoses you want to access. Google the model and you will likely find a diagram that will answer your question.

Try kicking the dishwasher until the hoses fall out. ;)

Thanks I just jerked it out of the cabinet and found them. Of course I have a mess to clean up but hey what else is new.

Larry

Are they fractured or just need new washers?

p.s. - they come in sets of two at any hardware store, Larry - better to replaced both.

Foxx: Republicans Passed Civil Rights Bills Back In The 60s Without Very Much Help' From Democrats
. . .
"Just as we [Republicans] were the people who passed the civil rights bills back in the '60s without very much help from our colleagues across the aisle," said [Rep. Virginia] Foxx (R-NC) during a debate in the U.S. House of Repesentatives. "They love to engage in revisionist history."

Foxx's claim that Republicans were the real engine behind the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a common notion among conservatives. But as Cardoza points out, it was President Lyndon Johnson who "choreographed passage of this historic measure in 1964." In fact, the Republican presidential candidate in 1964, Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), voted against the legislation.

To support the claim that Republicans were actually the architects of civil rights, conservatives often point out that a "higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats supported the civil-rights bill." But this ignores the "distinct split between Northern and Southern politicians" on the issue. When this is taken into account, the facts show that "in both the North and the South, Democrats supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act at a higher rate than the Republicans."

Warren Buffett's recent acquisition of Burlington Northern for an estimated $26.4 billion is another cagey move by the country's greatest investor. The Burlington deal is a rather clever play against inflation.

At his annual shareholders meeting in May, Buffett said of U.S. economic policies: "My guess is the ultimate price will be paid by a shrinkage of the value of the dollar." Later in the year, in August, he added gasoline to the fire by writing an op-ed for The New York Times warning of the inflation threat.

"Unchecked carbon emissions will likely cause icebergs to melt," Buffett wrote. "Unchecked greenback emissions will certainly cause the purchasing power of currency to melt."

He then noted the "enormous dosages of monetary medicine continue to be administered" and suggested that if we are not careful the United States could "evolve into the banana-republic economy described by Keynes."

With so much worry about the United States, why buy a U.S.-centric, fuddy-duddy company like Burlington Northern with almost 100 percent of its business in the U.S. (it transports in Canada as well), and with its most significant freight being very "un-green" coal?

Well, clearly Warren has several good reasons.
Key among them is the fact that an investment in most asset classes, including equities, will be far better than investing in dollars. Here is a scenario: Investors wake up one morning and realize every asset class is a better place to hold their wealth than dollars.

Soon there is a stampede out of dollars and into everything else. Currencies, gold, equities, even real estate could rise, Faber posits.

Buffett is leading the stampede away from dollars. Once the king of cash, Buffett is now willing to forego a significant portion of his stockpile to buy equities. This is a major reversal from years past and it should not be lost on investors who like to mimic the Sage of Omah

Gadhimai Festival: Nepal Mass Animal Sacrifice Festival To Go Ahead Despite Protests

KATMANDU, Nepal A Hindu festival in which hundreds of thousands of animals are expected to be sacrificed will go ahead as scheduled in southern Nepal despite protests, organizers said Friday.

The Gadhimai festival, celebrated every five years, is attended by many Hindus from India as well as Nepal. More than 200,000 buffaloes, pigs, goats, chickens and pigeons are expected to be slaughtered this year on Nov. 24 and 25....

Ram Bahadur Bamjan, a Nepalese teenager revered by many as a reincarnation of Buddha, has joined the campaign against the animal slaughter and plans to visit the festival area to appeal directly to participants to stop the sacrifices.

Bamjan's followers believe he has been meditating without food and water in the jungles of southern Nepal since 2005. Believers say he spends months without moving, sitting with his eyes closed beneath a tree.

Dramatic Footage: Near Riots at UCLA Over Proposed 32% Tuition Hike

The B-Cast Discussion: Are the Anti-Tuition Hike Riots at UCLA a Bad Thing?

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Hundreds of protesters chanted, marched and took over a building Thursday on the UCLA campus, where University of California regents were scheduled to vote on a 32 percent student fee increase.
The UC Board of Regents is considering boosting undergraduate feesthe equivalent of tuitionby $2,500 by summer 2010.

For a second day, the proposal drew demonstrators to the University of California, Los Angeles. Some came from other UC campuses and stayed overnight in a tent city.

The demonstrators outside UCLA's Covel Commons building chanted, beat drums and waved signs urging "No fee hikes" and "Wanted: Leadership."

Campus police in helmets with face shields stood guard outside the conference building. UCLA officials said police from several UC campuses were brought in.

Laura Zavala, 20, a third-year UCLA student, said she may have to get a second job to afford the increase.

"My family can't support me. I have to pay myself," she said. "It's not fair to students, when they are already pinched."

About 30 to 50 protesters staged a takeover of Campbell Hall, a building across campus that houses ethnic studies, said UCLA spokesman Phil Hampton.

They chained the doors shut but were peaceful and there were no immediate plans to remove them, Hampton said.

No arrests had been made, although 14 demonstrators were arrested on Wednesday and cited for failure to disperse or disturbing the peace.

Demonstrations also were held at other UC campuses.

UC President Mark Yudof told reporters Wednesday he couldn't rule out raising student fees again if the state is unable to meet his request for an additional $913 million next year for the 10-campus system.

"I can't make any ... promises," he said.

After a series of deep cuts in state aid, and with state government facing a nearly $21 billion budget gap over the next year and a half, Board of Regents members said there was no option to higher fees.

"When you have no choice, you have no choice," Yudof said after a Regents' committee endorsed the fee plan Wednesday. "I'm sorry."

The Los Angeles meeting was repeatedly interrupted by outbursts from students and union members, who accused the board of turning its back on the next generation.

"We are bailing out the banks, we are bailing out Wall Street. Where is the bailout for public education?" asked UCLA graduate student Sonja Diaz.
