E.j. Dionne Jr.: Imagine a time when government work was exciting, widely admired and much sought-after. It seems an outlandish thought at a moment when you cannot turn on your television without hearing government spoken of as almost an alien creature. It's time for a civilian ROTC.

The military, Stier says, gets roughly 40 percent of its officer corps through the ROTC. It makes sense to undertake a comparable investment in the civil service.

Invest in education fer non-military ends?

Madness!

Or not.

A good idea in principle but Spud would hafta see it in practise to totally approve.

Wot would they call it, do you think?

BOTC?

Bureaucratic Officials Training Course?

Be Well.

Aha! So them libruls can indoctrinate all the public servants with their socialist agenda when they take over everything.

Maybe they could even instill some ethics...

...that would be a great start...

...sadly, that probably will not work...

...our Government is FUBAR.

OUR ONLY HOPE IS TO FLUSH THEM ALL AND START OVER.

What the hell is high school and college?

Danni!!!!!!!!!

That's so . . . . so . . . conservative of you!!!

Well, at least Danni is being upfront about what the purpose would be.

Ohmygawd, ohmygawd, the Obamamonster's going put us in his heathenish horde of horded-up mantra reciting robotoidniks! Help! Help! The sky is faaaaaaaaaaaling!

That's retarded. Someone has to deliver the mail.

If you're going to build the Church of Obama, you better do it right.

Stier, a one-man evangelizing squad on behalf of government service, notes that the government must fill 273,000 "mission-critical" positions in the next three years. This will require vast improvements in the way government recruits and a new willingness on its part to invest in its workforce.

These serial taxpayer rapists can never get enough. The second you fill these 270k "mission critical" jobs, they'll have another 200k in critical jobs. Everyone not on government insurance needs to get a government job...it's the American way!

Oh yeah, did I mention we're 12 TRILLION in debt?

That's retarded. Someone has to deliver the mail.

That's retarded.

What do you expect, considering the source?

Newsworthy.

A civilian ROTC. That's rediculous. More folks to get in other folks way. What we need is for people like this guy to stfu!

This guy is a clown.

Look, I respect the manner in which he spouts his opinion, but, per usual, he is woefully naive.

It's good idea of you like to be treated like property.

This decision could seriously impact those who enlist in the guard or go ROTC. The benefit of free school is HUGE in people's determination to do this. When I didn't get good enough grades for scholarships and I wanted the independence of not having my old man pay for college, I joined the guard.

If there was some civilian ROTC with the same school benefits I would've done that (MUCH EASIER) instead of going guard. Knowing what I know now the Guard was an awesome decision, but this could seriously thin the ranks of people willing to join.

If someone wanted to help...they would encourage High School graduates to go to Junior/Community college and LEARN A TRADE...

A Liberal Arts degree today only guarantees a lifetime of employment using the sentence "Do you want fries with that"?

What would these graduates of the "Bureaucratic Officials Training Course" do? Join "Homeland Security" and spy on the Serfs?

Patterned after the SA and SS ? Who wants to wear the brown shirts ??!!?? "ME, ME", all the former ACORN employees replied. While the rest of us remain locked and loaded.

locked up and loaded down with trancs, more like.

With all these folks on the government dole, who's gonna pay for it?

all the former ACORN employees replied. While the rest of us remain stoned and stupid.

So the generation that put the zero in office, is at an all time low when it comes to volunteering?

Even this won't change that. Too busy buying/playing Call of Duty

Only a libtard can believe that the federal government isn't already big enough.

WTF is a civilian ROTC???? Civilian Reserve Officer Training Corps. What would they be officers of?

EJ must be behind on the times. The Obama Urban Yute Corp are already here www.youtube.com . If you have a problem with it, Obama Yutes will crack you in your pasty white face.

Only a libtard can believe that the federal government isn't already big enough.

Or a supporter of the Bush administration. Under their "conservative" leadership, government spending increased tremendously while revenue plummeted. I doubt there are many more fiscal conservatives in the Republican party. If the republicans decided to embrace sound economic policies instead of sucking the cocks of corporate lobbyists and religious nutcases, I might vote for them.

Are the democrats any better? Of course not. That's why I didn't vote for them. I voted because some of my ancestors took bullets to make that possible. I'll be the first to admit that my vote was a waste, though.

***Undesirables "Pre Empted" for NWO!!!

Civilian ROTC is a Great Idea because it will allow the US Govt to sort out and eliminate (Pre Empt) the "Undesirables"...which of course would include anyone who can THINK or who is "Anti Fascist" and/or "Anti Corporate Oligarchy"!!!

Are they going to have brown shirts as part of their uniform?

It sounds like a good idea on tha face of it. A higher caliber of federal civilian employees can't hurt. It's only envisioned to be open to US citizens, right? I mean, it says it's only being targeted to grad students for now, and given that fact that some gawd-awful percentage of grad students are aliens here on visas, I assume this program would have to be restricted to real citizens. Right? I didn't see this aspect addressed in the article. oh oh. Maybe not such a good idea after all...

Dionne is suspended in the past w/o even knowing. The Government in the past was smaller and more responsive to its bosses-We The People. Now, it is a sick joke hampered by useless bureaucracies and redistribution of wealth created by entrepreneurs targeted by the government for more tyranny. In fact, it is growing like a cancer. I am afraid that by the time the biopsy test is taken by the Americans it may be too late for the republic.

As any tyrannical regime this government has a need for civilian cadres along with its praetorian guards to solidify its position and replenish the new blood of the tyrants in charge. One can only hope in their failure.

That's the most honest and wise thing you have written on DR. When compared to your other posts, of course.

I am a ROTC alum. One area where I think that a program like this would be very beneficial would be the medical field. There is a huge shortage of doctors in the US, primarily because of the time it takes to "make your bones." I think that if there were a civillian program that was paralell to the military medical corps, one that paid med students 2nd Lt wages during med school and residency, to be followed up with standard medical officer pay based on rank upon completion of all requiresite courses, the government may acutally be able to increase the number of available doctors.

In reality, anyone who wants to go to college can already get all the money they need. In fact, the poorer you are, the more money you get. I think that a broad-based civillian ROTC would only appeal to those that had something against military service, and I don't know if I would trust them in any position of responsibility. Military service is unique. It demands a level of sacrifice that doesn't exist outside of the defense community. There are also programs already in place to recruit technical students such as engineers or scientists. Even teachers. I'm not sure we need anymore social workers or other "fluffy" bureaucrats. I don't think the US taxpayers shoud be paying to fill a niche already covered by groups like ACORN...

They should call it the Obama Youth Corp

The last thing we need is more bureaucrats. Especially trained and efficient at wielding power over the people.

One big reason for the shortage of doctors is all the behind the scenes finagling to keep the number of folks in medical school down. Doctors work toward that end as do many politicians and groups with an agenda. Your idea does have some merit, but since it makes sense I doubt anybody in Congress would give it a second look. ;~)

Oooooobama! He's gonna pay for it with obama dollars!!!

barf. it'll have to be a kinder, gentler rotc which is all-inclusive. i doubt tardies and absences will be counted, and the physical fitness test won't be so difficult. dollars all around though, to be sure.
