David Frum: The Republican fratricide in the Nov. 3 special election in upstate New York may prove just an opening round of an even more spectacular bloodbath in Florida in 2010.

What's funny/scary is that the fringe Right has gone so far off the anti-intellectual deep end that a bloody Neocon POS like Frum is the rational one.

"Are vague bromides about big government anything like an adequate response to the worst economic crisis experienced by any American under age 80?"

It does show that the objections are ideological at their core but no, that's description (an arguable one to be sure) not prescription

I remember when I began to think that Pat Buchanan was starting to sound more rational than the last administration.

Republicans need to be ideologically pure. Cast out all the moderates. Go 20%!!!

These answers have gained Rubio little traction among Florida voters, where he trails Crist badly in all demographic categories. Rubio even trails Crist by 10 points among Hispanics, despite his Cuban ancestry and fluent Spanish.
Sounds like Crist just cared about getting it done for his state. Hopefully that pays off.

Crist is a pragmatist, but he'll cut a children's program first to save money as quickly as any other Repub.

Good article, Corky. Thanks for posting it.

Rubio's last term in the Florida House ended in January 2009, so he did not share responsibility for the state's fiscal crisis. But when asked by reporters what he would have done differently, Rubio has suggested that he would have refused the federal stimulus dollars and instead cut up to $6 billion out of the $65 billion state budget. When asked where precisely he would have found those savings, Rubio demurred: "I don't have the budget in front of me."

How convenient.

Wonder if Crist's association with accusted fraudster Scott Rothstein (tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo
.com
) will help Rubio.

I don't know what children's programs Crist has cut, but I do know our own governor in Iowa, Chet Culver (D) has had to make some really tough decisions, slashing budgets even with the stimulus money. States need people who are pragmatic, not ideological, in these times.

history proves that when republicans do what the left preaches them to do and this guy apparently had been duped by the media saying the same thing.

they lose..which is exactly why dems and the media keep stoking this issue.

mccain..lost
dole...lost
even bush the first...lost

conservative candidates can and do win././.

and now republicans necessarily.

oh yeah

just heard this guy on laura ingraham show..

he has lost touch and apparently is looking for some crumbs from the staterun media.
looks like he found some.

history shows us...
the way away from the hind's teat

polk's war
china's wall

Alas, this is afkabl2's brain when he's not on drugs.

both of you can beat up the messenger all you want
it doesnt change the message.

and when I watch shows like cspan the other night when they had republican GREY and dem CONRAD and they were both using the phrase

'the debt is the threat'..

there may be hope for the republic after all.

So will Rubio go rogue when he doesn't get the nomination?
Dems sure could use another Senate seat...

A few days ago, I was talking to a roomful of young conservatives about the crisis. All agreed in denouncing both the bank bailouts done under TARP and the stimulus. I asked: OK fine -- what was the alternative?

There was a short pause, and then somebody laughed: "I guess it's lucky that we weren't in power."
* * * *

They should have asked me. And by the way, it's not just young conservatives who are furious about the bank bailouts. As soon as the Democratic Party sold its soul to Goldman Sachs, they pissed a few liberals too.

Not many, though. I'll give the Dems that much--they know their base isn't going anywhere. Kite a few trillion in debt and pass it on to hedge fund managers and derivatives traders, and the Dems will just go along. Amazing.

Run Rubio! Run!

- Dems everywhere

Just wait your turn Democrats...

...once the bottom of your party drops out over the abortion issue.

Abortion?

That's right. New scientific fetal discoveries are about the shock the fucking world.

Guess which party will win from all of this republican/democrat fallout?

Right again, the new Conservative Party.

Hope Rubio gets the nomination, then that should ensure we get a Democratic Senator.

Hopefully, Rubio will bring Palin and Bachmann and a bunch of mid-America Teabaggers into Miami's Little Cuba with him....

there won't be enough planes to get them out of town fast enough!

Just wait your turn Democrats...

...once the bottom of your party drops out over the abortion issue.

Ain't gonna happen.
A majority of Americans support abortion rights of some sort, even under the government program. Even anti-choice Republicans won't go to the wal on choice because they know this and they know their wife/daughter/mistress may someday require one. Ask marriage defender Bob Barr.
Why do you think the RNC paid for abortions for its staff for almost 20 years?

"Why do you think the RNC paid for abortions for its staff for almost 20 years?"

Because the RNC is composed of a bunch of cynical hypocrites?

Because the RNC doesn't care about anything other than power, and truth be damned?

Because the RNC doesn't even believe most of the policy shit it spews?

All of the above?

Yeah, let's get Rubio in. We need leadership who is conservative in action more than republican in name.

That's right. New scientific fetal discoveries are about the shock the fucking world.

Really?

Please enlighten us.

I think the 20% Republican Party with Sarah Palin as it's nominee is a great idea for 2012 or 2016. Curtis LeMay could be her VP pick. Afterall, she has no idea he's dead.

As a FL resident and a person who voted for Crist, I am very disappointed in many of the decisions he has made since taking office.

The article is WAY off in the statement that Rubio trails by 10 pts; (blogs.tampabay.com rightwingnews.com www.huffingtonpost.com race42008.com
politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com)

History shows us that when a TRUE conservstive runs AS a TRUE conservative, they win. Crist fooled us once, it won't happen again. As for those who think a Dem. candidate will beat either Rubio or Crist, they have not taken the pulse of Floridian's on how we feel about Bill Nelson. Martinez's seat (Lemieux) is not in danger from ANY Dem. Rubio will win the primary and the seat.

And that douche bag, Alan Grayson, will lose his seat also.

And as far as a FL bloodbath, look at what is happening in the country; people were pissed at the Repubs., RIGHTFULLY SO, and voted the Dems. in. Now look how the people feel about what the dems. are trying to do.

The country as a whole, IS center right, there will be a MUCH needed adjustment in 2010 and an even bigger one in 2012, if the dems. continue their present course, the destruction of America.

Eaisly interchangeable with the DNC.

The Repub. party might as well hang it up, other than very few issues, they are the same as the dems.

The conservative movement is at hand.

The conservative movement is at hand.

Arise conservatives, your time has come!

Only the pure of heart shall enter into the garden of Randian delights.

A nod or a wink astray from the holy grail and the infidel must be cast out.

Purge the RINOs. Start today!

You may not get it done by 2010, but the ticket in 2012 should present only shining beacons of bedrock conservatism from the right.

Remember, conservatism cannot fail, it can only be failed.

"Remember, conservatism cannot fail, it can only be failed."

Hey, I toss out the red hankie for an official review. Conservatism - let's call it capitalism - not only CAN fail but HAS failed. We are in a full-scale depression and will not lift a pinkie to get out.

Homelessness overwhelms even evicted folks with subsistence level jobs. We have hunger. Millions do without health care, a huge percentage DIE without health care.

Why? Because the computers that run conservative capitalism simply wrote people out of the equation. People no longer matter. They impede profit. If they can neither work for a cup of rice a day or consume the shit produced by those who can, get rid of 'em completely. We have the wherewithal to change that.

But we won't. herm

They get a primary and the winner goes against the Dem and whoever else runs.

Should be a vigorous campaign by both candidates.

But on one issue they have disagreed pasionately:
President Obama's fiscal stimulus.

REALLY IS THAT ALL???

"Crist fooled us once, it won't happen again."

Crist fooled on one, he ran exactly the same as he has governed. He would have a good chance of being elected to the Senate, Rubio none. Florida would elect a moderate Republican or a moderate Democrat like Bill Nelson, right wing lunatics like Rubio please only their right wing base.

Yes, all of the above.

Your party if far worse however.

It's high time that every single political incumbent is shown the door.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm voting a straight Party-Line vote from now on...

...I'm ignoring all D's & R's the picking whoever the new guy is.

Even if that new guy is Mickey Mouse.

If I vote at all that is...

The far right will next demand that the GOP theme song be
Dixie.

Rubio's national base is generating national dollars. Writing on FrumForum.com, the website I edit, Tim Mak reports that Crist has raised less than one-quarter of his money from outside Florida. More than one-third of Rubio's money has come from out of state. Only 13 percent of Crist's out-of-state dollars come from the Washington area, as compared to 22 percent of Rubio's.

Recipe for disaster there from a rethug perspective.

Outside moneys raised fer Rubio might get him the nod over Crist but when the votes are being cast his financial supporters will not be there.

Making it a WIN fer the Dems pretty much by default.

But that's just the little picture.

The candidate who purports to speak for populist rage in fact turns out to be the candidate of a national political leadership. They used to have a saying in Tammany Hall: "It's better to lose an election than lose control of the party" -- and control of the party is precisely what is at stake in Florida 2010.

That's the Big Picture.

Let thhere be no doubt the Palinites and Neo-Cons will be battling for the soul of the Republican Party in Florida.

While Spud may oft times disagree Frum (the part time pseudo-intellectual and full time AEI shill) he is quite correct in this.

Be Well.

......now there's a crock of shit ........

......failure to adapt to a changing environment dooms all life to extinction......

"History shows us that when a TRUE conservstive runs AS a TRUE conservative, they win."

Syntactic atrocity aside (we libs are nothing if not spelling nazis, you can support this with quotes from President Goldwater to that Conservative (cap C) rep from upstate New York. herm

Just wait until 2012 when Sarah becomes the standard bearer.
The GOP will be as popular as the Whigs in the 1860's.

Capitalism has never failed us, this country would not be where it is if it had. Our gov't., OVER regulation, has failed us, forcing banks to lend money to people who could never pay it back has failed us, social programs have enslaved us, entitlements have failed us, subsidies have failed us.

Capitalism works, the gov't. hinders.

#33 | Posted by danni

Danni, do you really need to be proven worng again?
Never met anyone that is such a glutten for punishment.

First, do you even live in FL?
If so, you obviously do not pay attention to what happens in the state. Crist ran on an very conservative platform. He has governed from the center, not the right. He has added MANY unfunded mandates, he supported the stimulus, he screwed up the homestead exemption & done everything but suck Obama cock; till he got called on it, now he wants nothing to do w/Obama or the things he has supported in the last 2 years.

If you think Rubio has no chance of being elected, than I know you have no idea what you are talking about; Rubio has closed the gap in EVERY poll in the last 3 months & he raised more funds than Crist in the last quarter. Nelson is not a moderate, he tows the dem. party line like a good dog should.

Once again, you express an opinion on something you know nothing about. I try to be civil, because being rash never helps get your point across, but you are a stoopid cunt!!! Every time you respond to something I post you get schooled because you have nothing to back up the crap you spew!!!
Don't you ever get tired of being corrected?

Get some facts on your side or shut the fuck up!!!

Correct my grammer/English all you want, I am still correct.
