I don't usually get involved with other retorters' conflicts, but it's abundantly clear that you cannot recognize a wellspring of information even when it is presented to you. JPW has spent a decent amount of time studying these fascinating lifeforms. I know enough about virology to recognize someone who knows what he or she is talking about. He's by far more knowledgeable than me, and I've been studying the things for almost 2 years now.

I can only infer JPW's gender from previous posts, and "he" hasn't even told me what he studies despite my having asked several times. Nevertheless it is obvious to me that he has a strong background in molecular biology and has invested a considerable amount of time into studying viruses. He's likely involved in some sort of virology research, which makes him an ideal source of information for you, not an adversary.

I don't see what self-deprecation has to do with any of this aside from being a source of levity. You may just need a sense of humor. It will prevent you from devolving into an incorrigible twat entirely dissociated from reality.
