The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today welcomed the US House of Representatives' passage of the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009.

CAIR has supported the act since 2005 and praised its previous passage by the House in 2007. The Senate now must consider the bill.

If passed by the Senate and signed by the president, the law would allow the Attorney General to provide federal assistance to local law enforcement to aid investigations of crimes motivated by "prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin" of the victim.

Their US representatives have been routinely indicted for spying on the USA, but the cases get conveniently dropped.

That is one of the ways in which the US "supports" Israel. Clandestine transfers of information and military hardware are a fact of life in the US-Israeli partnership. The Israelis themselves are not a direct threat to the US in the same way as al qaida, though. The perpetuation of the conflicts between Israelis, Arabs and Palestinians is far more concerning.

If Americans begin to understand the reality about our one sided relationship with Israel, we may find the Muslims aren't our worst enemy.

No reason to vilify Israel unnecessarily. Israeli policies and American unwillingness to challenge them speak for themselves. That's not to say that the state of Israel needs to go. It is possible for Israel to exist peacefully alongside its current neighbors and a Palestinian state. In order for that to happen, many parties need to be willing participants. Not just the Israelis and Palestinians, but the US, Russia, and a host of middle eastern nations. Today, they find it too lucrative to remain in conflict.

The US government gets Israeli intel and an ally in the middle east.
American politicians get the endorsement of an influential lobbying organization.
Israel gets unconditional US support.
Groups espousing extremist ideologies gain popularity.
Extremists living in other countries are too distracted by the Israelis to cause problems closer to home.
