The best seats are in Asia, but North American observers should be treated to an above average performance of the Leonid meteor shower, weather permitting. The trick for all observers is to head outside in the wee hours of the morning between 1 a.m. and dawn regardless where you live.

DANG! We're supposed to be cloudy and rainy - but I do love this show!

but I do love this show!

Me too. The Leonids are my second favorite meteor shower. My first favorite are the Geminids on December 12-14. Big green slow moving meteors put on quite a show.

My favorite shower is not the meteor kind, but rather the water kind.

He could take about an hour on the tower of power?

Sorry.

Had to do it.

Follow the link within the story to get to a live feed site for 'hearing' Leonid Meteors (actually enhancements of distant RF signals due to the ionized trails caused by the meteors).

Speaking of meteors: i179.photobucket.com

...Earth will pass through one of the denser debris streams at around 4 a.m. EST (1 a.m. PST) Tuesday. If you have only an hour or less to watch, center it around this time...In the West, Leo will be low in the eastern sky at this time, so fewer shooting stars will be above the horizon, and therefore Western skywatchers should also try to stick it out until daybreak....

I doubt I'll make it 'till daybreak, but should be up at 1:00 a.m. It's dark up here at night in the foothills where I live so bright lights should be no problem. Not sure about clouds getting in the way, though. I've never seen a meteor shower before and would really enjoy seeing one -- weather permitting. I'll give it a try.

I've never seen a meteor shower before

Where you been all your life,CC?

Crap. Here I am halfway up the side of Mt. Hood and it's socked in solid.

Sigh.
