Are you a medical transcriber?

When I move I plan on going to Texas to live. The other day someone mentioned to me to think about working as a medical transcriber. You can work from your home computer and there's lots of part time work. I decided to check it out and saw there are quite a few cities in Texas needing medical transcribers so it would open a lot of options for me on different locales to live I hadn't really considered before.

I've done medical transcription work before -- not for doctors but for lawyers as I worked in a law firm who did a lot of medical malpractice work for a large, well-known group of doctors and hospitals. In fact the lawyers almost had to be doctors themselves in order to handle some of the more complicated cases. I imagine medical transcribing has changed since I did it typing a transcription with cassettes and earphones? Or is it still the same with the doctor (or lawyer) sending you the tape only you transcribe it on your computer?

Any tips on going about applying at some medical transcribing company? Do they require a certain type of computer and/or program? Just wondering if you knew. Thanks.

This could have happened to any one of us, or any of the people we love. Dominic Osorio's life should inspire us to respect our time, and try to help others as much as we can. Universal health care is a step in the right direction. The time for all of us is short, but the shortness of this childs life shows that it is possible to have a positive effect on others no matter what the time frame.

Deaths from heart disease have declined over the last few decades, but you have to die of something. There may be an environmental cause behind many "random" cancers, but it is certainly not this simplistic.

The electromagnetic radiation that saturates our environment has very long wavelengths. It is non-ionizing and cannot cause DNA damage. You're better off pointing your finger at the fallout from nearly half a century of nuclear weapons tests.

Seven years on this earth. He should have had many more. Kids aren't supposed to die like this. They're not supposed to die before their parents.

While in high school, my daughter worked at Disneyland in California, she was Chip (of the chipmunks) and her job was to escort children brought to Disneyland by the Wish Foundation. When I read the letters by parents to "Chip", letters expressing appreciation for the joy Chip brought, I would get tears in my eyes. What a difficult job my daughter was doing. Many of these children were cancer patients and this trip was their last smile. (She is now a pediatrician)
