WASHINGTON -- About a year ago, thousands jammed Grant Park in Chicago to celebrate Barack Obama's election to the White House, a communal civic defining moment. But those giddy days are long gone as Democrats in Illinois face the po
tential of losing the Senate seat President Obama once held next November.

So they have a lousy candidate and there is party in-fighting. This is going to be great. It would be so funny if Dems lost that seat!

Democrats will loose plenty of seats in 2010...

The story doesn't make it sound like the Democrats have a strong risk here. Alexi Giannoulias has more money than the Republican frontrunner, has run statewide before, and has labor support. It may be a competitive race, but the idea the seat is in strong danger here has yet to be borne out.

Mark Kirk is seen as a RINO, and his name has already come up on the hard corp right's radar screen.

Could be another NY 23rd.

Alexi Giannoulias is a fairly well known name in the Chicago political arena.

Are saying there won't be a Republican Primary, that the party bosses will put a candidate for people to vote for?

Illinois is blue for life, despite what downstate (anything south of Chicago) wants.

Democrats will loose plenty of seats in 2010...
