Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which purports to be "the voice of business," is run by a Republican money machine. As the nation's largest lobbying shop, the Chamber is spending millions of dollars from its corporate members against President Obama's progressive agenda of health care, energy, and financial reform. The Chamber claims that the "board's membership is as diverse as the nation's business community itself," but this is false. A ThinkProgress analysis of federal election contribution data compiled by the LittleSis project has found that the Chamber's 116-member board of directors has given more than six times as much money to Republican candidates and committees ($4,741,747) as it has to Democrats ($778,282), with $1,074,697 flowing to corporate political action committees.

Unions are a Democrat Money Machine. Are you happy now?

You can thank the US Chamber of Commerce for the lack of enforcement of immigration laws over the past couple of decades. When you see a construction crew made up entirely of illegal aliens thank the Chamber, when you eat out and see only Mexicans working in the restaurant thank the Chamber. Cheap labor is their goal and they have been quite successful. They are the best reason possible to ban lobbyists and corporate money flowing to campaigns.

"A ThinkProgress analysis"

Ironic coming from a Democrat Money Machine.

"When you see a construction crew made up entirely of illegal aliens"

How do you know they are entirely made up of illegals? Do you ask them for thei green cards? Or do you assume that if they have brown skin they must be illegal?

"when you eat out and see only Mexicans working in the restaurant"

Same question.

Geez, this coming from one of the people who claims that the real reason people oppose Obama is because they are racists.

Pot, kettle, black, I don't remember how that saying goes now.

Unlike Danni, I dislike illegal immigration in general, but apparently she only dislikes the ones with brown skin.

"How do you know they are entirely made up of illegals? Do you ask them for thei green cards? Or do you assume that if they have brown skin they must be illegal?"

How do I know??? cuz I'm not stupid. My son WAS in the construction industry as an electrician, his former bosses have told him, they don't like it but basicly they had no choice. Either hire the cheaper Mexican help or go out of business, you simply can't compete pricewise with American labor. You can pretend you don't see what is going on but sooner or later folks like you will feel something biting you right in the ass and you will deserve it when it happens.

I too was in the construction business for a time. Worked with a lot of illegals, and that was in MICHIGAN. Not exactly viewed as a mexican illegal haven, but they are there.

"Unlike Danni, I dislike illegal immigration in general, but apparently she only dislikes the ones with brown skin."

No, I only don't like them being used to drive down labor costs. As far as the people go I like them fine. Give them green cards and make employers pay them the same as Americans and I'll be fine. It is actually racist for the employers to take advantage of their status to drive down wages.

I have also witnessed this. The home-builders set their pay structure to the wages of illegals.
I cannot tell you how many times I have been told that I am not entitled to make decent wages, or pay them to employees, that ALL the risk and investment is held soley by the corporation, and I am just a small "business". That I am not entitled to make a profit, or for that matter, to charge enough to cover the true and very real costs of being in business.
One other thing here, the constitution recognizes congress as the chamber of commerce. It is congress that is tasked with regulation of commerce, the conduct of commerce and the benefit of commerce, for the masses. That they are tasked with representing the people over the demands of any business, and further that there is NO representation of "special interests", as there are no such entities.
And now they are about to mandate in law, that you are required to purchase health insurance, which is nothing short of enslavement to a corporation/ industry.

Looks to me like the entire Chamber of Commerce, representing hundreds of thousands of companies, has given less money to Republicans than Goldman Sachs has given to Democrats.

Well, that explains a lot. In case you were wondering why Obama is saving Wall Street at the expense of Main, look no further than who's sending him money.

Hope and Change!

#10 Missed the part where corporations give the most money to whomever is in office at the time. In this case, industry started giving more to Dems than Reps about a year before the election when they thought Hillary was going to win.

So, I take you would favor public financing of elections and enhanced bribery laws to take care of this money-based influence by special interests?

Welcome aboard!

And also to Danni,

This is not a greedy business issue it is an enforcement issue. Companies are bound by law to pay minimum wage to all their employees. they are also required to provide proof (E-VERIFY) of their employees citizenship/immigration status, again an enforcement issue.

On the other hand I do agree that these immigrants have caused the hourly wage to plummet.

"again an enforcement issue."

That's exactly what I've been saying it is and the US Chamber of Commerce has lobbied Congress, the executive branch, and everyone else in Washington to prevent adequate enforcement. I used to work for a company here in S. Florida back in the seventies and eighties, INS came around and enforced the law back in those days. There were some illegals working around town, in those days mostly Haitians but nothing like today. If INS showed up at virtually any construction site they would find 90% illegal immigrants working there and everyone knows it, they don't even try to conceal it because everyong knows nothing is going to be done about it.

hmmm... Maybe it's because Democrats historically support measures that hurt or kill businesses. Businesses tend not to like that kind of thing, and the Chamber is all about business.

If you can't think this through, then there's too much turd in your brain.

"hmmm... Maybe it's because Democrats historically support measures that hurt or kill businesses."

That's the talking point but seems to me that the policies of Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2 are what created the current economic crisis and has forced more businesses to close than any other time in my life. A few more years of your "business friendly" party and there won't be any businesses left to save.

Danni- I don't know why I'm bothering to try to explain anything to such an obvious racist, partisan hack, but here it goes.

The reason you see so many brown people in kitchens and construction crews is because they actually work, instead of standing around dicking off and smoking cigarettes.

Last Saturday night we had a large banquet and our 20 yr old white dishwasher got deep in the weeds. To save his ass our 50 yr old Mexican born Garde-Manger jumped over and took him to church, all while maintaining his station on a relatively busy ala carte night. My honkey dishy sat there slack-jawed while this old man made him look like a little bitch. Guess who gets paid more? Bingo, the brown one.

When I lived in Nashville, I had my house painted by an Ecuadorian crew. They all made $3-$4 more an hour than the white "American" crews working around town, but amazingly the total job cost less. Maybe because they actually worked instead of standing around complaining and would be done a day or two before the white crews.

There should be plenty of wealth and jobs in this country to support ourselves and anyone that wants to come here. But, the pols on both sides of the aisle create policy that, at the same time, drives jobs overseas and encourages Mexicans to risk their lives to come here illegally. Then they convince people like you that the problems are caused by the immigrants and the "other" party, securing their jobs and continuing to suck the life blood of the American economy.

Viva La Raza!
