Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Not sure what to give Uncle Sam this Christmas? How about a check to help whittle away at the $7.6 trillion national debt? The U.S. Treasury Department accepts gifts, payable to the Bureau of the Public Debt. Just mail them to the attention of Department G, Post Office Box 2188, Parkersburg, West Virginia, 26106-2188. Make a note in the memo section that it is a gift to reduce the debt held by the public. Yes, really. According to Treasury spokesman Kim Treat, people do send checks. In the last fiscal year they added up to a little over $3 million, which was the highest total since at least 1996. Some include notes. Common reasons for donating include a sense of patriotism and immigrants expressing their thanks to the United States for giving them an opportunity, he said.

Well why not have a Super Lottery?!

I am about to write a check for two cents along with a scathing missive to them - thankx for this moment of levity, L! LMBO!

I'm sure they'll be all broken up when they get your "scathing missive". LOL

I guarantee what would happen if Warren Buffet and Bill Gates teamed up to send them 50 Billion: "Sweet, we have 50 Billion to spend".

Andy - them sending 50 billion is the equivalent of standing outside Ft. Knox and throwing a handful of pennies!

The govt could make up this debt within a decade if people were taxed heavily enough. If the rich threaten to leave America to avoid taxes then the Govt could execute them. I'll bet non would leave after that.

If the rich threaten to leave America to avoid taxes then the Govt could execute them.

you know when some like 101 posts something so off the charts we all know he is just fucking with others and stirring the pot.

In your case, I really can't tell. I think you are serious when you post shit like that.

If they were serious they could actually pay this off in no time. Just use Goldman Sachs trading programs "for good" to manipulate the market as they do every day with their insider trading program trading software. They already make millions every day for their customers, no matter which way the market goes.

L - Nonetheless, I've sent a letter to all my pals:

Dear Fellow Patriots - Be sure to shield your monitor screen and set your iced tea down before reading the linked story below - The U.S. Treasury, in addition to their working relentlessly to take any of your children and grandchildren's future in the form of taxes, has now resorted to begging U.S. citizens to DONATE their hard earned money to help pay down the $7.6 TRILLION DOLLAR debt!

I have a plan to send a message to them in the clear form of a letter conveying YOUR THOUGHTS ALONG with a check or money order for TWO CENTS or just two pennies.

It is a well known fact in the service industry that if your server is less than accommodating, you leave a two cent tip and they get the clue and work harder to provide better service to the next customer.

WHAT DO YOU SAY - ARE YOU IN?

Oh sure the stamp is somewhat more valuable than the two cents and your time, but perhaps they'll get a clue that we're FED up!

Sincerely snide,
Your pal, nanc

Now I'm off to mail my "donation"...wonder if it's tax deductible? BWAH!

Oops, I forgot Geitner aides already received millions from GS then got paid back in the 700B in TARP, just to scratch the surface.

Geitner Aides Millions Working for Banks, Hedge Funds

Some of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's closest aides, none of whom faced Senate confirmation, earned millions of dollars a year working for Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Citigroup Inc. and other Wall Street firms, according to financial disclosure forms.

The advisers include Gene Sperling, who last year took in $887,727 from Goldman Sachs and $158,000 for speeches mostly to financial companies, including the firm run by accused Ponzi scheme mastermind R. Allen Stanford [currently charged]. Another top aide, Lee Sachs, reported more than $3 million in salary and partnership income from Mariner Investment Group, a New York hedge fund.

As part of Geithner's kitchen cabinet, Sperling and Sachs wield influence behind the scenes at the Treasury Department, where they help oversee the $700 billion banking rescue and craft executive pay rules and the revamp of financial regulations. Yet they haven't faced the public scrutiny given to Senate-confirmed appointees, nor are they compelled to testify in Congress to defend or explain the Treasury's policies.

yeah right

how many feel good, do good, libs here are writing those checks out

guess californians wont be doing..
not since thier liberal state govt just STOLE 10 % of thier incomes

I wonder how much Soros will by ponying up?

What a fucking joke. What kind of suckers do they take us for? Suppose this stung worked and the debt burden was reduce $x, that would give congress the opportunity to create a new program that costs $2x or more.

Until congress gets serius about reducing spending, starting with their salaries and staff expenses, nothing is going to happen.

Don't worry, the oil will pay for the war(s).

also

Deficits don't matter.

I expect the pay as you go conservatives here will at least pay off Reagan, Herbie and Dubya's share of the deficit.

If only for their grandchildrens' sakes.

Here is the chance for all those liberals who love to preach higher taxes to increase their taxes voluntarily. Time to put their money where their mouths are. Or is it they just want "other" people to pay more taxes?

If the rich threaten to leave America to avoid taxes then the Govt could execute them.

I got a better idea. Let's just execute anyone who receives food stamps. This way the productive members of society can go on living their lives without having to support the current parasite infestation.

Deficits don't matter.

guess not

end of bush term.....460 billion

less than a year into obama boondoogle....well over one TRILLION

We can continue to have brainless bickering on left-right blame games. The bigger question is what can we do knowing that both parties are up to their necks in the corruption with Goldman Sach's and the Federal Reserve having looted 24T (certainly higher by now) from the American people?

Even Barney Frank, who once stated he supported Ron Paul's HR 1207 - Audit the Fed Bill, is now promising his connected buddies to stall the effort and water down the auditing proposal. Ron Paul is constantly hearkening that they have the votes already to pass it immediately. What legitimate reason is there to stall the effort?

This story is an absolute joke, right??

Lol. Like that'll happen.

You're the stupidest sob on this blog and probably in your county too.

You'll always be poor regardless what political system rules.

Can we get an accountant here to tally up the givebacks from the rabid Drudge supporters????

If not I can recommend one.

In your case, I really can't tell. I think you are serious when you post shit like that.

Yes, the rich ones. And when they're done with rich it'll be time to kill the Little Red hen too.

Then when the little red hens are all dead they'll eat each other.

These people aren't too bright.

Example : "The govt could make up this debt within a decade if people were taxed heavily enough. If the rich threaten to leave America to avoid taxes then the Govt could execute them. I'll bet non would leave after that.

I do want the Rich taxed more heavily in this country. I don't deny that.

To these people "Rich" is anyone that has more than them. That's how covetors are.

I'd say 250K is where rich starts.

Which gets at the heart of why Jackass is obsessed about stealing from me at the point of a gun.

I'd say 250K is where rich starts.

That includes almost all of Congress and the president. That's one reason why the tax laws have so many loopholes.

Ray don't twist my words. I never said I would do such a thing. I said it could happen to you. Especially in that shithole of a state you live in.

Ray don't twist my words. I never said I would do such a thing.

No. But you're hoping someone does it for you.

Exactly. Not only will he always be poor he'll always be a cowardly too. He'll be the one in the middle of the herd stampede. The one that goes where ever the crowd pushes him.

I don't know any extreme dumbasses in person and this blog is as close as I'd ever want to get to one.

Washboard, you idiot I am not poor I am middle class by all standards. I make a comfortable living and have everything I need. I am lucky though. I have a union job.

Dumbass, there's earning money and there's stealing money. And I don't care for theives whether republican, democrat, communist, black, purple, red or blue. Ill gotten gains are ill gotten gains.

And he took him up on the mountain and said, all this I'll give you if you only bow down and worship me.

It's both reality and metaphorical, dumbasses.

Who did Gore steal from?? He made his money legit.

#10 | Posted by L_RContrarian

Why do you think Paulson--also GS--let Lehman Bros collaspe?

Take out the competition--along with Merrill Lynch--although Bank of America was forced to buy them.

Turned out to be a big fat turd.

Carbon credits are legit?

lol

What a covetous crybaby. Trying to compensate for your shortcomings by claiming those wealthier than you must have done it by stealing. That is piss-weak.

If Jackass believes that I'll be rich when he's poor, he could load up on gold and silver while it's still cheap. But no! He rather fantasize me getting robbed while he's poor.

Okay, Gore stole legally.

Dear US Treasury,

Fuck you and that asshole in charge. Geithner helped get rid of Brookley Born, a true American hero.

I think he missed the difference between honest wealth and wealth obtained by legalized stealing.

The Fed should try a lottery...no wait, it's been done, the banks won.

7.6 Trillion? Sounds like another democrat who can't count. The national debt is 12 billion dollars currently and with Obama will be 20 billion before he leaves office.

Obama: Wrecking america faster than Jimmy Carter. Who would have ever thought that possible.

I'm beginning to think most of the people who appear to be idiots with no memories may actually be spoofs. No one can be that dense, and in the case of several here, that spiteful.

well, the one bonafide millionaire(ss) that I know brags about paying less than 5% total tax. When you can afford it, you can get away with anything.

Right wingers (aka Chickenhawks) only approve of wasteful government spending and infinite mountains of debt if they get to wage war with the money. Build bombs, blow shit up, kill foreign people, no problem, no question, here's a blank check!

QUESTION: IF YOU MAKE A "DONATION", IS IT THEN CONSIDERED TAX-DEDUCTABLE IN APRIL? :)
