Top executives at Blackwater Worldwide authorized secret payments of about $1 million to Iraqi officials that were intended to silence their criticism and buy their support after a September 2007 episode in which Blackwater security guards fatally shot 17 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad, according to former company officials.

Stacy DeLuke, a company spokeswoman, dismissed the allegations as "baseless" and said the company would not comment on former employees. Jackson, who resigned as president early this year, said, "I don't care what you write."

Anybody wanna try sticking up fer this typa shit?

No takers?

K.

Here's the thing...

Corporate warriors with an allegiance only to the almighty buck who exist beyond all law are a really, really bad idea.

Be Well.

"Suprised? Anybody?"

I'm sure that somebody is surprised. Somewhere.

What surprises is me is that Blackwater has let Jeremy Scahill live this long.

Not me, Spud.

This doesn't suprise me one bit though.

"Surprised? Anybody?"

Those were my exact first thoughts. This is what I expect from the modern day mercenaries known as Xe/Blackwater. They are a disgrace.

I guess you all know this to be a true fact. I know that none of you would jump to any conclusions.

"They are a disgrace."

They are a necessary evil. Without Mercenary companies like them (whom we pay upt to four or five times what the average serviceman gets), we'd have to re-institute the draft.

And by this I mean to say that lack of support for a war is not sufficient for us not to have them.

We need the draft again. No deferments either. Rich and poor should die side by side.

I argue the same for different reasons. If we all were invested in the sacrifice, I think we as a nation would be far more vocal in our opposition. If every president who wanted to start a war had to deal with Vietnam style protests, I'd hope that there'd be far fewer wars.

I guess, in part at least, this is an indictment of the left.

The good news is Obama is going to end the use of the Blackwater's of this world, right?
Well as soon as he's done giving no bid contracts to the Halliburton's/KBR's of this world, right?

What do you mean "no"? WTF, I thought he was different!

"The good news is Obama is going to end the use of the Blackwater's of this world, right?"

Sadly that is something that he never said. In fact, quite the opposite. Amy Goodman asked him personally during the primaries if I remember correctly. He sort of laughed her question off as absurd.

Hmmm, I wonder how many people would 'choose' to be gay then. The draft would definitely would push people to doing things they don't want to do!

When in Rome, do as the Romans....

The draft would definitely would push people to doing things they don't want to do!

Currently you don't have to prove you're gay, you just have to make the claim (imagine if you did have to prove it!). But that's bad enough for some people I guess.

The Iraqis had the right idea what to do with these Blackwater mercs in Fallujah.

I don't think the draft is a good idea. I don't want a lot of the pie in the sky morons that I attend college with to fuck everything up under pressure.

Seriously though people who don't want to be there will do a worse job then people who volunteer.

A volunteer army during a recession is a jobs program for unemployed young people where they risk death for a pay check. The draft puts the children of the rich and powerful at the same risk as the poor and powerless and thus would serve to keep us out of unnecessary wars like Iraq.

Who would volunteer for the Army for 3 years and get shit pay when you can sign for one year and at least triple the paycheck at some Private Contracting firm?

God, I love the free market. Look at the efficiencies it's brought us!

You mean we can do worse than we've been doing?

How sad is that?
