WASHINGTON Senate Democrats on Tuesday proposed stripping the Federal Reserve of its supervisory powers and creating instead three new federal agencies to police banks, protect consumers and dismantle failing institutions.

I'll believe it when I see it, especially since Geithner and Kashkari were arguing for the exact opposite months ago.

So, to replace one hulking massive institution with zero accountability to the American people, their answer is to create 3 hulking massive instititions that won't care about accountability to the American people.

And we'll still have the Federal Reserve to print our Monopoly Money?

The need for serious reform is very real and vital one and perhaps, as this article indicates, some Republicans will put their partisan obstructionism aside for this one the way they didn't on the Health Care Reform bill.

And maybe pigs'll fly yet.
