Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

The political arena's filled with plenty of snarling and growling by those who yapp and bay at the moon. And while the querulous political scene seems to have blocked progress on many social issues, there's a quiet social revolution underway that no amount of partisan bickering appears able to stop: the movement toward more compassionate treatment of animals and the increasingly serious punishment of animal abusers.

Animals have the right to be ground up and put on the grill

One beacon of hope emanates from the rising number of young vegetarians, and young Americans' attitudes toward animals.

Who will ruin future work food deliveries because we must all make exceptions for them. But some eat fish!

Oh and George W. Bush raised a vegetarian, Jenna. How weird is that?

"* Mass-murderer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer killed neighbors' pets and impaled a dog's head on a stick.

* Patrick Sherrill, who murdered 14 co-workers and then killed himself, stole pets, then tied them up and allowed his own dog to mutilate them.

* David Berkowitz, the so-called "Son of Sam," shot his neighbor's Labrador retriever.

* Albert DeSalvo, the "Boston Strangler," shot arrows into boxes of trapped cats and dogs."

Some people are very, very sick.

not weird at all really.

Now, if she drove an electric car????????

weird indeed.

Ok, I like/agree with just about every word in the article with this one exception:

"revealed strong correlations between the openings of slaughterhouses in rural areas and drastic hikes in the violent crime rates in those communities."

Its written is suc ha way that it shoulders ALL the blame for crime on being a butcher. You know a job that has been around, well, forever. Ever think that maybe since the slaughter house is a pretty physical and demanding place to work that some of these guys who get off work go drink a little bit to much; or imbude somethign else that might make them a bit unamicable? I would like to see the crime rate before and after opening ANY big manufacturing buisness. I mean really. Dressing a deer, cow, chicken, ect is WAY different than say, ripping the legs of a duckling, or shooting song birds with a pelet gun, or or setting cats and dogs on fire. Other than that little bit, I say animal abusers are total fucking scum. Micheal Vick, I hope you die in a fire.

If we'd only had tougher laws against animal cruelty - or even giving them personhood rights - this would not have happened.

Yes, animal cruelty is wrong, no doubt. But when they make stronger laws they will probably be too broad and will cause problems for cattlemen and others who raise livestock. When you have wild dogs or stray dogs making trouble for your cows, goats, sheep, emus, miniature horses, or whatever, you have got a major problem which can only be dealt with in the most efficient way. The only thing you can do is to shoot the damn dogs, regardless of where they came from, whether they have got a collar or not. A dog will try to go back to his predator heritage when it is loose in the countryside. Feral cats should be trapped and eliminated also.

"hope emanates from the rising number of young vegetarians"...."But some eat fish!"

Then they are not vegetarians. They may call themselves that but they are wrong. They are just regular old omnivores if they are eating any type of meat.

"A truly compassionate society would limit breeding to the number of animals that can be sold to responsible owners each year."

Who decides who is a responsible owner? Or who gets to breed? What about the types of dogs allowed to breed? Are there to be exceptions for property/livestock guardians, hunting, or herding dogs? Will breeds incapable of work be banned?

"Over-breeding in the horse industry is epidemic. I commend to you this New York Times video about the sad end met by most retired thoroughbred race horses. It's much worse for many other horse breeds. And we all know about the millions of dogs and cats that are "euthanized" in kill shelters each year."

The very nature of breeding anything means you make more than you need. Domestication being one of the pillars of civilization, we might not want to fuck with it to much. PETA will come after fire and agriculture next.

And yes, being mean to animals is wrong.

And Geo. W. Bush blew up frogs with firecrackers, see how that works?

"And Geo. W. Bush blew up frogs with firecrackers, see how that works?"

I was going to add that but decided against it. : )
