726 single payer is the way to go, I wonder how many dem reps would rather see that path be taken. It would actually lower costs. I think that this bill will increase cost and just have another government bureaucracy fumbling around, but single payer would reduce paperwork, make access 100%, lower costs (like if you pay cash for a dr. visit as opposed to what the insurance company pays due to paperwork / processing).

I wonder how many votes Pelosi could drum up if there was a vote for single payer (which would be a bill well under 2,000 pages).

About the only aspect of reform that "MIGHT" save some money is getting folks out of the Emergency Room, and into more formal scheduled visits.

There are other reforms that could save LOTS of money, but none of them are included (getting rid of the NEED for defensive medicine (the need is "CYA"), would save 10% to 20% of "all" medical costs...., but that would involve tort reform....)

BTW, Mike Rogers of Alaska is a Republican whose district supported the option.

Why are people insisting that publick option will reduce ER visits? All one needs to do is look at MA, ME, NC, etc. where ER coverage is mandated and the utilization is through the roof! Where to Medicaid folks go - to the doc where there's a copay or to the ER where there's no copay?

Single payer is usually coupled with universal coverage. Universal coverage will reduce medical cost, because a routine office visit is cheaper than an ER visit. And the expanded continuum of care will lead to early treatment of disease, which further attenuates the cost of "medical loss."

ER access regardless of insurance or ability to pay is mandated everywhere. We essentially have universal coverage now, but only at the most expensive point of delivery, and often unfunded.

wait to see this pass then watch your taxes go way up then no one will listen when you complain. i'm uninsured the company i worked for had no insuranece and on my own too expensive cause of health and have paid bill's on my own.
