No, they did it for two reasons: Streamlining and stealth. Look at my ship and that one. All the structures on the older one create a lot of wind resistance. Now note the angular structure of the newer one. That give it a lower radar profile like the angular shaped stealth B2 bomber and F117 fighter.

A few years back when I was doing a teaching stint at DISAEUR outside of Stuttgart, Germany, I was driving up the bahn to go visit folks and friends in Belgium. Off to the east as I was passing through the environs of Stuttgart, I noticed this large hill or mound. Had an odd shape to it, didn't seem natural. Later learned this:

While your story subjects are many times out of the mainstream -- to say the least -- they provide me a lot of fun and oftentimes knowledge. Such as with the formation you said looked like a smokestack on the lunar surface, I was encouraged to research (and learn much from) various articles on space and the Moon I probably never would have read if not for the prompting your topic provided.

In trying to "prove you wrong" I was the one who ended up learning many things I hadn't known before -- a lot of which came from reading others' reasoning as to why, or why not, one thing or another you allege could or could not be possible.

So, no way, no killfiles for BuffaloBob -- at least as far as I'm concerned. : )

I'm really confused about this car antenna thing... missed out on the original post.

Does someone have that handy? I really don't feel like hunting for it but I'm curious none the less...

This is the post I posted that started it all.

Guy pulls a gun first--takes your gun. I would say any criminal that tries to hold someone up with a knife is a fool, but if he has a knife and you make a move, you could be sliced pretty bad and there's no guarantee you shoot him or don't have the gun used on you. No guarantee the bullet won't go through him and kill someone else. I'd rather have a car antennae than a gun in that situation. Even a rock or a club.

Somehow people construe that I am saying a car antenna is not as good as a gun in self defense. No--what I am saying is that if the guy has a knife on you and you go for the gun--chances are you won't make it---you'll be cut pretty bad, and maybe killed. If you can get to your gun, a gun is much better than a car antenna---the problem is getting to your gun. In addition I am saying there is no guarantee he won't take your gun and use it on you, or that your shot won't kill an innocent bystander, and I am saying I would rather have a car antenna than shoot someone innocent.

Here is a good video on a knife against a gun, and this is face to face. If the guy with the knife attacks from behind, the chances of getting to your gun are lessened dramatically. Keep in mind that in the post highlighted above, the gun is in a holster, not in the mans hand as shown in the video. Being in a holster makes it even less effective against a knife.

Ok, I think I see where you are coming from. You are using a car antenna as a metaphor for some form of club in hand? My current car antenna is a bunch of wire imbedded in my rear window, and the deadly version in my '65 Dodge Polara was firmy attached to the vehicle and as such not very usefull as a defensive weapon.

You have a point. There is an old saying that there is a big difference between having a gun and being armed.

A surprising number of people allow assailants to kill them with their own weapons. They just can't pull the trigger. Same thing happens in my little part of the world... people carrying enormously powerful weapons get killed by animals because they just don't pull the trigger.

In my mind, simple gun handling requires practice.

Defensive gun handling requires a LOT of practice.

None of that means anything without situational awareness. If you get knifed when you had a gun you probably should have spent the money on a bodyguard...

I just blew up the ship on My computer and the "Towers" apear to be the frontal one it looks like it either has an whirlygig type of antenna and the back side looks to be a smoke stack. Instead of the normal bent holey maxi pad style antenna You are used to seeing it looks to be a round one that rotates on an axis. The other looks to be a smoke stack insulated as to prevent a radar lock on it. I could be out of My mind but that's what it looks like.
