Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"Anti-immigration activist William Gheen might take the prize as this week's most paranoid Obama critic," writes Stephanie Mencimer. "On Tuesday, Gheen circulated an email claiming that the Obama administration may intend to use the swine flu epidemic as an excuse to shut down the web and thus silence his critics. Gheen's source for his claim? A small Reuters story about a recent GAO report suggesting the Department of Homeland Security doesn't have a backup plan should millions of bored Americans, home with swine flu, overload the Internet." Gheen is soliciting donations for a phone bank to operate while the Internet is unavailable.

A small Reuters story about a recent GAO report suggesting the Department of Homeland Security doesn't have a backup plan should millions of bored Americans, home with swine flu, overload the Internet with too many games of XBlaster.

Frank,
Amazing how partisan blind folks as yourself can twist the facts:

GAO report says feds should regulate Internet traffic to cope with overloads.

"Private Internet providers might need government authorization to block popular websites, the report states, or to reduce residential transmission speeds to make way for commerce". "DHS has not developed a strategy to address potential Internet congestion," the report said.

The GAO report also highlights the lack of knowledge about whether the public, other federal agencies, as well as ISP's would co-operate with any directive to regulate the Internet during a pandemic.

On the previous thread on this story, KnightHawk makes the case for the lack of sense of shutting down chosen web sites.
Drudge

Whatever the motive, the DHS has no legitimacy and the justification is not valid. There is a legitimate question as to what the motive really is.

The world is full of a lot of conservative anti-Obama craziness these daysGlenn Beck, the Birther movement, etc. But anti-immigration activist William Gheen might take the prize

Frank, your partisan ad hominem rhetoric is what has reached new lows.

There is a legitimate question as to what the motive really is.

The government is on a mission to keep you from knowing "the truth". But rest assured, Agent Contrarian, the truth is out there.

But rest assured, Agent Contrarian, the truth is out there.

It's not about me, as it would serve your purpose to falsely make it. There are others as well that are honest enough to post outside of party line blind partisanship.

I'd prefer to liken it to a vision of intellectual honesty [where both sides are exposed when warranted] over partisanship, unlike Zombie and others, who are easily exposed as such.

Frank's grand strategy: can't win on the issue, may as well insult him.

Blah blah blah..shut down the internet...blah blah blah...Muslim....blah blah blah....Kenyan....blah blah blah...Glen Beck makes sense to me...blah blah blah....socialism (whatever that is)...blah blah blah.....war on Christmas.

Idiots.

Dropped out of Logic 101 after first week.

lets be honest, at least half of the people home would be looking at pr0n

I hope that you didn't just learn of this revelation. Half of the posts are insults. Most of the other half are lies and assumptions. Sadly, he is one of many.

That is the lib way. It happens all the time here in the DR

WOW! There are a LOT more libs on this site than I thought!

Meanwhile, if this happens to the internet, how am I going to get the "War On Christmas" alerts out?

No problem really. Obama is smart enough to know that just Fox News and Drudge needs to be shut down. That's the only sites half the country uses. The dumb half, so dumb in fact they won't know what happened. They will just cry to their ISP that the whole net is down and their ISP will ignore them like the rest of the country does.

Yeah Glenn Beck. I'm not entirely clear why they really want to do this, but shutting down the internet? Thats a stretch into batshit insane land.

Whatever is driving this is much more complicated and multi-sided.

The end-game is control. Which currently not much of anyone has BY DESIGN!.

And I think that drives the rub. This massive system millions of Americans and they're mothers are hooked into, and Uncle same ain't got shit on it. They can't even properly tax it. They are scared of what they don't know, thats one angle.

Another angle is the internet is a perfectly good excuse for yet another bureaucracy.

Yet another is the constant daily attacks by our friends from China and South Korea and to a somewhat lesser extent Russia. And again I think that plays into the we don't know what to be scared of, so we are scared mantra.

There are alot of different ways to come at this without assuming the internet would get shut down.

Would not surprise me to learn that our lawmakers are envious of what the Chinese have done with the internet. And even they didn't shut it down! cmon!.

What I'm sure of, is the reasoning I've heard come down for all of this, is total bullshit. If they were serious they would extend this thinking beyond the internet. Hell just start shutting down cities, businesses, public services keep everyone home!.

Also occured to me the other day, that shutting down a website is something they already have some control over. After all we (USA) runs the damn domain naming root servers. If the feds had court order to shutdown a website, they have no problem doin it and have done it. That could be it, they want a way to shutdown websites without court order. Just a thought.

Again I have no love for Glenn Beck and think hes off his rocker. But at least we can fight for the same essential thing. Which is to keep Uncle Sam's hands off the motherfucker.

^.^

Well, once the foreign countries the IEEE is going to for control of the Internet get going on it, it won't matter what Obummer and his psychos want ... it'll all be controlled from somewhere "over there"...

Until that happens, let the man TRY IT. I can't imagine a more futile effort than Obummer and the Liberalistas trying to control something that they haven't figured out how to tax, much less stifle.

That's *real* hubris, there...

Yeah, as silly as this thread is on so many levels, your right. Ham radio guys will keep people informed if anything happens to the internet within the U.S.

Ham radio guys will keep people informed if anything happens to the internet within the U.S.

Right! How many people do you know with a sideband receiver? Now, how many know how to use it? How many know how to set it for scanning every frequency? How many know how to tell which broadcasts are legit?

Sorry but the fact is we sold our soul to the internet and the transmissions are all computer controlled. What the world needs is a single side band receiver app for the iphone that is not digital.

The biggest problem is that most ham operators are old farts and have Alzheimer from too much radio waves destroying their brain cells, but we can hope.

So we FINALLY have the reason for Zatoichi's troubles. Too many radio waves passing through His skull rendering Him drain bamaged?? Kewl on THAT note I shall pray for His wellbeing.

Larry

...note I shall pray for His wellbeing.

Don't start something you can't finish. Your compassion is admirable, but what do you really want to do for the rest of your life?

If you really want to pray for someone, pray for me! :

Kewl will do although I don't think G-d listens to Me all that much. Oh well life does goeth on.

Larry

"does goeth"?

Free speech or not, you're not allowed to do that to the English language.

A surefire way to provoke civil unrest would be to shut down our internets.

That said, this mouthbreather is obviously an hysteric.

Until that happens, let the man TRY IT. I can't imagine a more futile effort than Obummer and the Liberalistas trying to control something that they haven't figured out how to tax, much less stifle.

Ummm, think you missed the point to the story.

The point to the story is that only really, really farked up and mentally deranged individuals would be crazy or st00pid enuff to buy into this obvious BS.

K?

Thanx fer being a case* in point there, btw.

That's *real* humorous!

This reminds me of Oral Roberts, minus the tower and the millions of dollars from idiot Christians.

if you dont think there is however a very real possibility that the govt will take control over it, then you havent been paying attention.

or you dont give a fuck since its a goddamn democrat deal and anything that can silence the critics is seen as good

Locked up in the Conservatorium Lunatica they go flapping around the ceilings in their padded cells dropping endless helpings of crazy shit on the steaming piles of their paranoid imaginings. Eventually the piles will reach the ceiling and they will slowly subside into the cesspool they created. A blessed silence will ensue.

He does'nt want to shut it down, he just wants to control it, like the weasel he is, a liar, alittle boy, who disgraces the Office.

It's the new world order, the obamanation of desolation, the new banana republic, camel lot, camels for clunkers, 1 or 2 humpers, bring your own vaseline.

Frank is the winner of his self-posted 'Crackpot Fear...'. Perhaps he could go find the CyberSecurity bill or Google video where Congress was debating that very question 'Do we give the President the keys to the internet'?

Of course, Frank has already proven to be a completely blind left kool-aid drinker.
