Busybodies of Congress recently passed legislation entitled, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act to be implemented by the U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC). According to the new program, "Resale Round-up", "Americans who slap a one dollar price tag on one of their used possessions at garage sales or bazaars, risk fines of up to $15 million.
The initiative targets toys and other products applicable to children that might be considered toxic. Chair-lady Inez Tenenbaum states, "We are not only breaking the law, [we] are putting children's lives at risk."
In our current nanny-state, police/fire departments, charities, second-hand stores, flea markets, bazaars and garage sales risk insane fines, if they sell (or buy) any item that does not meet the standards of the program.
