A French court has convicted the Church of Scientology of fraud, ordering its Celebrity Centre and a church-affiliated bookstore to pay a $890,000 fine. France refuses to recognise Scientology as a religion, arguing that it is a purely commercial operation.

Tres bien!

Scientology is BANNED from running Candidates for office in Germany. They pumped so much money into Germany about ten years ago they almost took over the government.

THIS is the danger to democracy and freedom that Scientology represents.

All organized religion is a scam.

All organized religion is a scam.

Maybe so, but you don't see Christianity or Islam being convicted of fraud.

"Maybe so, but you don't see Christianity or Islam being convicted of fraud."

That doesn't prove they aren't committing the crime though.

LOL! Tom Cruise is pissed! LMAO!

danni the diff is

read about how you become a member of the church of scientology and how you become more "pious"

by paying enormous amounts of money for thetan removal..

thetans being the souls of billion year old genocided creatures that inhabit your body.

its a little difference then donating money for church repairs.

I still get mail from Scientology to people that haven't lived at this house for over 25 years. Nice, full-color magazines sometimes. They're always whoring out their "yacht" where you can "get clear" - for thousands and thousands of dollars. It's frickin' hi-larious.

That doesn't prove they aren't committing the crime though.

If there is a link for your absurd comment let's see it!

What organized church is putting out money-- as a church --to any candidate to run for office??

This is bullshit. Surely it must have been ACORN, not the Scientologists!!!

The French idea of right and wrong seems largely wrapped up in where the accused originated. If Scientology were founded in France, they would probably leave it alone. And if Roman Polanski were born in Chicago they wouldn't be so outraged that the child rapist is going to jail.

Still nice to Scientology get a black eye though.

I think it's great that the French finally found someone who's ass they could actually kick..... until the Starship arrives, anyway.

Scientology, like cocaine, is produced for people who have too much money and not enough common sense.

"Maybe so, but you don't see Christianity or Islam being convicted of fraud."
Please see the many cover ups for priest pedifilia and Jim Bakker's PTL Club for examples of fraud convictions.

What organized church is putting out money-- as a church --to any candidate to run for office??

How many are campaigning for a candidate? The reverends Pat Robertson, Jesse Jackson and James Dobson sure were. who was that guy who had Mccain and Obama speak at his church?

But, no, churches have nothing to do with politics.

GO FRANCE!
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT (for once!)

I want to know why they charge so much for the E-Meter which can be built for less than 100 bucks at a hobby shop? I really think you have to be nuts to join Scientology.

I want to know why they charge so much for the E-Meter which can be built for less than 100 bucks ...

You're a fool to make one fr $100. You can buy a cheap one at Home Depot for $20. They call it a multi-meter.

Switch it to a high resistance range (~10 megohm, less if you hands are sweaty) and you have one

Other then organized religions, there are all kinds of secular religions where people elevate other things, ideologies, beliefs as their gods-- capitalists, socialists, leftists, rightists, hardcore republicans and democrats, money, power, and a list of many others. Anytime something becomes a priority that causes an imbalance in one's life you might call it a religion. And some of the above try to take over governments.

Maybe so, but you don't see Christianity or Islam being convicted of fraud.

The only difference between a religion and a cult is political representation.

If they violate campaign laws they are.

Scientology = cult
Scientologists = sukkers

"thetans being the souls of billion year old genocided creatures that inhabit your body."

That is somehow not as plausible as 72 virgins??

It says flat out in there, "While the Catholic Church has always been a political institution in Latin America, this is an entirely new stance, rejecting the churches old ties to the landed aristocracy and industrial elite for a more critical, even defiant attitude towards existing power groups."

Or how about these traitors in california, but since their x-trian you look teh other way. These are teh people who will smuggle in teh next group of terrorists.

"Mahony has been criticized by parishioners and other Catholics for his stance in the scandal. He directed a tough legal battle against the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, which wants access to the diocese's personnel records to investigate possible felony child-molestation charges against as many as 100 priests."

Sounds a little worse than fraud to me, what is pathetic is that you call them absurd without even lifting a finger to look for yourself. Now that is pathetic!!

Unlike the US, France has always refused to recognise Scientology as a religion, arguing that it is a purely commercial operation designed to make as much money as it can at the expense of often vulnerable victims

So... Scientology is a religion then.
