Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Twitter has shut down 33 fake accounts created by Connecticut Republicans meant to impersonate Democratic state representatives. According to the Hartford Advocate, the GOP scheme was designed "to send out posts under the Democrats' names mocking the liberal tax-and-spend bastards." Twitter strictly forbids impersonation "intended to mislead, confuse or deceive others" on its site. However, the state GOP chairman is now complaining that Republicans' "free speech" rights are being violated.

Yep... because stopping someone from lying to someone else is against free speech.

If only we could get this enforced in Washington...

Lying whining GOPpers.

Is there any other kind?

Since when is fraud covered by free speech?

I wonder if it is possible to prosecute these folks under some kind of fraud statute.
If it isn't it should be.

They need Rove. They are using his tactics, but they lack his skill.

It looks like the Repubs have been learning from the Dems:

"Palin Parody 'Going Rouge': Fair Or Foul"

www.npr.org

hahahahahhaha. wonder what the fake tweets were:

"I'm at the hooker's now"

"I'm gonna vote to raise taxes 100%"

"I hope my stupid constituencies don't find out I have the clap."

However, the state GOP chairman is now complaining that Republicans' "free speech" rights are being violated.

How incredibly stupid.

their 'free fraud for folks' platform follows their 'fact free fersure' talking points.

Typical republican behavior.

No stupider than all the hand wringing over FOX "we sue for the right to lie" joke of a factual "News" outlet", Snoofs.

(2) It looks like the Repubs have been learning from the Dems:

In Mr. Huberman's book "101 People Who Are Really Screwing America" he did much the same thing to Rush Limbaugh. Not only that, but he copied his book title from Goldberg's "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America".

Don't forget Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 911" whose title was copied from "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury.

The left has no originality.

Come on. If the libbies had thought of using the fake names of Bush and Cheney, they would have thought it was an amusing joke.

Get over yourselves. When libbies stop being tax-and-spend bastards, they'll have to come up with new material.

RIR the govt takes money to run. You may not like it but it does. We only tax what is needed.

Impersonating a Democrat is easy:

"let's have higher taxes"
"let's regulate lemonade stands"
"the UN is great"
"Global Warming is real and man-made"
"let's spread the wealth!"

We only tax what is needed.

oh shitfuckgoddamit you fool!!!

where do you think all of the funding of the unnecessary "earmarks" and "pork" come from???

unless, of course, you think it is all necessary.

I guess you also agree that all of the money spent in Iraq was "needed".

LOL

Impersonating a Republican is easier:

"Let's invade a country that poses no threat"
"Let's turn true surpluses as far as the eye can see into deficits as far as the eye can see"
"Let's see how many enemies we can make in the world"
"Let's lie to kids about birth control, and then bitch about the pregnancy rate"
"Let's cut taxes for the wealthiest"
"Let's neutralize the SEC"
"Let's repeal the Clean Air Act"
"Let's sell off parts of the National Park System"
"Let's relinquish the moral high ground by torturing"
"Let's let the industries write the regulations"

"where do you think all of the funding of the unnecessary "earmarks" and "pork" come from???

Well...foreigners, mainly.

Danforth,

good point...I was expecting a "China" response or something.

Connecticut is a messed up state.

Connecticut is a messed up state.

This coming from a dolt who lives in Cahhhlifonia.

Let me get this straight Muffy.

Your state is on the brink of going under, yet the Guhvanatahhh (R), whom I'm sure you voted for wants to build a 75,000 seat stadium in L.A. to "attract" a football team.

And Connecticut is fucked up?

No stupider than all the hand wringing over FOX "we sue for the right to lie" joke of a factual "News" outlet", Snoofs.

No, I meant the invocation of "First Amendment" on Twitter. You have no First Amendment protections on Twitter, just like you have none on Drudge Retort.

Fox does have the right to lie. Lying is almost never illegal. Lots of incredibly dense people haven't figured this out, or what it implies.

"Connecticut is a messed up state."

Well, they reelected Joe Lieberman so I guess you have a point.

Connecticut the highest per capita income, Human Development Index, and median household income in the country.

I dunno I consider my numerous fake twitter accounts as glowing tributes to rcade, Larry, danforth, moderhate, northgay, Lisa, Doc, monte, danni, jerrytarkanian, jackass......did I mention Larry?

I live in ct murph. It frakkin rules.

I mean its boring.

But its clean.
The people are educated for the most part.
The scenery is amazing.
The woman and men are good looking and have jobs(unlike cali)
I can see the sky soo clearly at night from my house.
We party in the woods with bonfires

I've lived in cali too. Have fun with all your franchise restaurants. Ill eat the amazing food from the countless mom and pop restaurants in CT.

So much more.

Oh and those 33 republicans. They make up most of the rethugs in this state.

We're a blue state yet we have true conservative principles.

You should love it. Oh wait you hate gay rights.

If it means anything, Connecticut is usually in the top 5 for average ACT and SAT scores (they were #1 in 2007, the last time I checked).

I wonder if it is possible to prosecute these folks under some kind of fraud statute.
If it isn't it should be.

Mainly, I see two points:

1. Violation of persons factual free speech - ie, Republican officials intimating and then falsely quoting Democrat officials intentionally. Probably some slander suit therein, but mainly they abused both offices.

2. Violation of Twitter policy - which, in collaboration of those Representatives misrepresented could be used in terms of "public officials violating law with intent to slander", and thus defamation. Another suit.

Both are easily observed from the Tweets sent and should be admissible data in court.

Not only should the Republican officials be sued for defamation, but abuse, theft and misappropriation of public resources and their office.

Scrumplet

Ct has a history of academics.

We have yale.

I'm suprised murph hates ct since her idol bush is "from" here.

(He's really from Maine.)

Oh and if you amazing italian food. CT is the place.

Rutgers University's women's basketball team from 2 1/2 years ago were from in state and still live there?

Desperate days means desperate ways. When the right needs to resort to trickery, lies and identity theft to push their agenda, we all know their days are numbered.

Uh, last I heard, Rutgers (which I attended in the '60's) is in New Jersey!

"Desperate days means desperate ways. When the right needs to resort to trickery, lies and identity theft to push their agenda, we all know their days are numbered."

Wow. 33 whole republicans...Probably a bunch of HS students.

It was UConn he was talking about.

Rutgers is new jersey

Silly righties

Maybe they are thinking the ever winning uconn woman's basketball team.

Huskies.

It was Rutgers Imus was talking about

Not to mention the Oxygen and water&food Resources wasted on them.

Here's an idea...tie 'em all to an anchor-and drop 'em off the side of a ship in the middle of the Atlantic. Let 'em swim back to shore with several tons of anchor and heavy chains strapped to their ankles......
Isn't that what the slavers used to do with slaves to keep from being caught with live slaves on their ships?

Wow. 33 whole republicans...Probably a bunch of HS students.

Possibly, from a private Christian HS I suppose.

#41...

Lord only knows where some stupid article, from some stupid site, turns out some stupid poster who finds a way to invoke slavery. Fucking guy sees "republican" in a headline and it's like the experimental chicken who pecks the button to get a treat.

"Desperate days means desperate ways. When the right needs to resort to trickery, lies and identity theft to push their agenda, we all know their days are numbered."

YOu would think that except they did the same things when they held the majority. It's just who they are.

#44...

Desperate is thinking some 33 people deserves a thread, and an opportunity to write a lame post about being who they are...

My mistake. I thought he was referring to UConn.

I guess I shouldn't rely on my memory when it comes to Don Imus, or women's basketball.

MOre desperate is responding to it.

Or what you said about debt when Bush was in office vs now, which I found in .6 seconds according to Google and Yahoo :)

Read in an Alaskan blog that Sarah Palin wants to start a new political party, the "Conservative Republican American Party", C.R.A.P. (CRAP for short) Her very own party. The repubo's impersonating dems would fit in nicely.

If the repubs did what's been ascribed to them, they should have their collective derrieres kicked-- what the heck is wrong with some people--- aren't there any grown-ups in this country any longer?

aren't there any grown-ups in this country any longer?

Apparently not.
Doing the right thing-JUST because it's right-is no longer fashionable(unless you can make an obscene profit from it....)

hahahahahhaha. wonder what the fake tweets were:
"I'm at the hooker's now"
.........#7 | Posted by somoco

....."but I'm a Democrat, so it's a female hooker...yeah...that's the ticket..."......

#51--- Frank, you're right and both parties and their partisan supporters are at fault.

Why, don't you think that happens here daily?

....."but I'm a Democrat, so it's a female hooker...yeah...that's the ticket...with a wig and a woody"

-Bunny Frank

Bottom line... This is fraud. But the sad part is that the GOP is so old that they don't understand that. Just like we all know some senior citizens that should not drive. The Grand Old Party should do social networking.

"Not only should the Republican officials be sued for defamation, but abuse, theft and misappropriation of public resources and their office.

If their abuse was timed to intervene with their victims activities it's also a possible form of electronic stalking.
