(Continued from #3 above)
It ended when the cops finally obtained a picture of Ramirez and posted it all around town. Soon after his photo was released to the public, Ramirez had just gotten off a Grayhound bus as he had been out of town and happened to see his picture posted at the Grayhound bus station.
He panicked and ran into a nearby neighborhood and pulled a woman out of her car as she was getting ready to drive away so he could steal her car. She screamed and a bunch of guys in the neighborhood ran over to help her. Then the neighbors recognized who he was. Ramirez really picked the wrong neighborhood.
It was a mostly Mexican suburb and they -- along with the rest of the County of Los Angeles -- were furious as hell at the guy as everyone lived in fear of him and anyone without air conditioning had to sleep on those hot nights with their windows locked tight so they and the rest of Southern California were more than happy to have them beat the hell out of Ramirez.
But then a Sheriff's car drove up and pulled him free from the crowd beating on him and put him in the back of their squad car. Too bad they didn't let the neighbors finish the job.
You don't know what it's like to have a serial killer in your town who for the whole summer would kill at random, was PURE EVIL, a devil worshipper, and actually enjoyed killing and you never knew where he would turn up next.
I actually got to see Richard Ramirez in person. I was on jury duty for another trial in the downtown L.A. Superior Court bldg. while his trial was being held in another courtroom on one of the upper floors. I had a juror badge I had to wear for the other trial so I was able to slip in during my jury duty lunch hour and sit on one of the benches in Ramirez' courtroom. I was curious just to see what he looked like.
The WEIRDEST thing was all these women "groupies" this murderer had attending his trial. Like his own little fan club. They thought he was so good looking and for some unknown reason found his being a serial killer a turn-on for them. He'd turn around to look at them in court and smile and wink at them. Ugh!
I can't believe it's take so long to have this man put to death. It should have happened 15 years ago.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in reading about him, here's a link to his story. Richard Ramirez - The Night Stalker
