I have little to say here. I suppose it would be best to know what he means before we spout off (but when has that ever stopped any of us before?). But you can just hear the leadership of NEA having coniptions right now (and I say this as a card-carrying member of NEA). I'd love a transcript of the speech. I'd love to see these serious plans that this administration--or Secretary Duncan--has. And I'd love to know if they really mean to demean all teachers of disciplines that are not tested (arts, physical education, and hell, social studies in many places).

My sister knew this. She is a card carrying member, too. FOr the first time, she she did not vote for a democratic president last November.

Well, McCain's record is worse. I hope that she voted for a third-party candidate. : )

well prag...I see your point and I can tell you as one who has gone through the education degree program, there was little from the actual education dept that prepared me for the job.
the music dept, of course, was much more "Instrumental"...GET IT GET IT GET IT>>>

but remember...this is all unconstitutional.
education is not a property, if you will, of the federal govt according to the 10th amendment.

I agree, Afk, about the department of ed and the 10th amendment. This argument gets made by liberals too, dontcha know. So I hope you're aiming it at, well, pretty much all presidents since it's invention.

Not sure what you mean about the ed degree program. Well, I did alt certification, not a degree program, and it was awesome--prepared me very very well. I don't know about degree programs, but I know some good teachers who came out of them.

My point was to show the naysayers that Obama is not an NEA stooge. Never has been, never will be. Though he and Duncan at least pretend to listen to NEA's/teachers' concerns. And I still want to see a plan 'cause the emphasis on testing is abfuckingsurd.
