A body found in a Georgia landfill is that of missing 7-year-old Somer Thompson. Sheriff Rick Beseler said that the identification was based on clothing on the body and a birthmark that matched an "odd-shaped" mark on Somer Thompson's left shin. Investigators followed garbage trucks from the neighborhood where Somer disappeared on Monday to a landfill in Georgia where they discovered the body after searching through 100 tons of garbage.

I'd been hearing about this missing little girl even out here on our local radio. Sad to hear this morning it ended this way. What kind of rotten piece of humanity would do this to a little 7 year old girl.

This is truly a very sad commentary on the plight of humans - did you see how many registered sex offenders in their area? I believe it was fourteen.

What I want to know is HOW can parents allow children of this age to just run around with other children of the same age and younger without adult supervision?

We have eight children 12 and under in our little neighborhood and it disturbs me that some of them are allowed to wander so freely - one family had visitors and their little three year old wandered to another's house and was near her above ground pool - he could easily have climbed in. Not to mention the wild animals.

God be with her family and give them strength to get through this - may they hold their other children a little tighter.

What I want to know is HOW can parents allow children of this age to just run around with other children of the same age and younger without adult supervision?

I agree with you 100%, nanc.

The news reported the little girl got slightly ahead of the group of children she was walking with and then just disappeared from sight. 7 is TOO YOUNG to be left alone or with other kids the same age and no adult or teenager watching them.

This is proof that there is no god. If this was one of god's children and god loves his children, he would have prevented this.

How fucked up can a person (deity) be to allow such a thing to happen to one of his own children when he has the power to stop it? Would any of you parents sit by and allow something like this to happen to one of your children if you had full power to stop it?

:+( RIP Sweetheart. Sighhhhhhhh have we lost all sense of ourselves??

Larry

The animal (or animals) that did this had to have done things prior to this act which should have alerted someone to the fact that that he/she/they were a danger to society. It really pisses me off when people protect or ignore dangerous behaviors and when the justice system turns violators loose with a slap on the wrist. There is a big difference when a "sexual predator" is an 18 year-old who had consensual sex with a 16 year-old and when an adult molests a small child. The justice system needs to follow some logic as well as the rule of law. I'm willing to bet that the party or parties guilty of this had previous incidents which others were aware of and might have even been charged before with molestation.

#4 | Posted by goatman - it is only more proof that pure evil exists.

I'll be willing to bet that when they catch this fuck, he'll have a past record that shows he plea bargained his way out of crimes that should have sent a signal that he was capable of this.

Once we catch the guy, isn't it more important to educate and rehabilitate him than to punish him out of revenge?
--DonnerBoy

I think a good old fashioned revenge punishment would both educate and rehabilitate him. I promise they would NEVER do this again.

I am a total hypocrite when it come to a child as a victim and I am fine with my hypocrisy.

And people think we should abolish the death penalt...

It's a shame when something like this happens not only for the victim and their family but for the countless others kids whose parents will use this to shorten the leash on their kids. It's takes longer and is harder to grow up when you're not given reasonable chances to spread your wings as much as possible at the earliest age possible.

I'm usually game with 2nd chances for most criminals but child molesters and/or murders deserve no 2nd chance to offend.

And people think we should abolish the death penalt...

Put him in the slammer-in the General Population- with a life sentence.
The other inmates that have 7 Y.O. daughters will take him off the "guest list"....and Judicial resources won't be wasted on endless Appeals.

This is proof that there is no god. If this was one of god's children and god loves his children, he would have prevented this.

You're wrong. It isn't "proof there is no God" it's only you applying your own logic as to why you think it's "proof there is no God." One's logic isn't always "proof positive."

Sometimes I wonder if you really even want to know if there is a God at all, or if it's just a cop out for you to justify being an agnostic (or, as you claim, an atheist). If you aren't sincere in wanting to know then nothing either I or anyone else can tell you will ever change your mind.

But if you're half-way sincere about hearing some answers, then why don't you take a good look at this summary linked below of a well-known book which answers a few of your questions. You don't even have to reply as to what you think of it. Just read it.

This isn't too long and doesn't get "too preachy" or biblical. It's to the point and addresses a few of the points you always seem to bring up to justify your rationale of God's non-existence. (Also be sure to check out the links within the summary.)

"When Bad Things Happen To Good People"

If you want to know more about what the author has to say, the book is available on Kindle by ordering it through Amazon. If you don't want to know any more, then don't bother ordering it.

It isn't "proof there is no God"

OK then.

It IS proof that if there is a god, he doesn't give a shit about his 'children'. I, as a parent, would never allow my innocent child to be killed and thrown in the trash.

Sometimes I wonder if you really even want to know if there is a God at all,

It doesn't matter what I want or don't want at all. In fact, I don't care. But if god wants me to believe in him, he knows how to do it.

He hasn't yet

OK then.

So glad you gave the summary of "Why Bad Things Happen To Good People" a whole 5 minutes of your reading time.

You're right. There is no God -- at least as far as you'll ever be concerned. And apparently there never will be. Nothing more I can say.

#17 -- excuse all the bold print. It was a mistake on my part.

You know, after giving this a little more thought, I realize only you can be the one to decide whether or not you think there is a God based on how you feel you've been treated in life.

You've had some hardballs thrown your way (losing your Mom and wife at rather young ages) and it can be hard to make sense as to why things like that are allowed to happen. Especially when, as you say, God is suppose to be all loving and you probably felt -- justifably -- you didn't do anything to deserve them happening to you.

I may not agree with your logic, but until I or anyone else has walked a mile in your shoes then any belief, or non-belief, issues need to be reconciled only between you and God. I shouldn't try and change them or tell you you're wrong.

We all deal with what life throws at us in different ways. Who am I to say you're wrong and I'm right -- or vice versa -- when it comes to believing in God or not. I do choose to believe, you don't. But it's your life to live as you wish and to believe or not believe in God is a decision only you can make.

Besides, no one can "make" you believe in God as it has to come from within you or else it's meaningless -- so I honestly was wrong to interfere. I won't get on your case again about it again.
