World leaders have 50 days to save the Earth from irreversible global warming, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Monday. "If we do not reach a deal at this time, let us be in no doubt: Since once the damage from unchecked emissions growth is done, no retrospective global agreement, in some future period, can undo that choice," he said. "By then it will be irretrievably too late."

Then I guess the Earth is doomed! Because the best they'll come up with is some transfer of wealth that does nothing for the environment.

British Prime Minister Does Dale Arden Impression: Flash, Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!

4 - 5 - 6

Time to call in agent 007, Bond... James Bond.

"If we do not reach a deal at this time, let us be in no doubt: Since once the damage from unchecked emissions growth is done, no retrospective global agreement, in some future period, can undo that choice."

Good. Fifty more days until we don't have to hear from these people since according to them it will all be moot by then anyway.

It's probably only 49 now.

Oh great!!

I have a haircut appointment in 51 days.

He couldn't have given us a 100 days warning? To save the Earth?

He must not like Earth all that much.

Before there was the story of 'Chicken Little', Gordon Brown was the inspiration for the childhood maxim we've all used to convince our kids the folly of telling outrageous lies: "the Boy Who Cried 'Wolf'"

I love all the GLOBAL WARMING deniers! They have been with us since we KNEW all about global warming in the 1970's. They will always be with us just like FLAT EARTH society and the MOON WALK deniers!

But back to reality - MANY kudos to Minister Brown for bringing a sense of URGENCY to the issue.

Yes perhaps it is ALREADY past the point of no return to save the atmosphere.

It is LONG past time for humanity to BEGIN to live in harmony with the natural world.

"But back to reality - MANY kudos to Minister Brown for bringing a sense of URGENCY to the issue."

Maybe the UN can make China and India in charge. Like having Cuba running the UN Human Rights...

It is LONG past time for humanity to BEGIN to live in harmony with the natural world.

Is that before or after you ditch your computer to go live with the natural world?

So the doomsday date is December 8th??

Thanks goodness it's after Palin's book is released!! lol

So on December 9th, as the world continues to cool, will the GW nuts finally STFU? Or do we have to wait for Gore's deadline? Or the mayor of Tokyo's deadline? With all these deadlines for the end of the earth coming and going, it makes me dizzy!

We are stewards of the earth. We are its master, to judiciously use its resources to better mankind. The GW crowd have no interest in saving the earth, which as the evidence shows is not at risk from anthropogenic warming anyway. The GW crowd is just interested in extra-legal confiscation and redistribution of wealth.

We're all gonna die!

Britian has some home grown loonies too folks, wonder if Dr.Brown wears a tin-foil hat, if he does it's apparently not working, not much doubt they must have trans-mutated him when he takes it off...

This guy is an idiot (you can slap my face for using that terminology but I can't take it anymore). This is the same moron who sold a large amount of Great Britain's gold reserves back around the year 2000. Of course he sold at about the very low price of gold in the last 30 years (about $250/ounce). Of course, we know where the price is today-- north of $1000/ounce. With their economic problems (and ours is similar) I'll bet he wishes he had that gold back now--- guess what, governments are actually purchasing the stuff today-- I wonder why. Where do people like this Brown come from? Outer space? Are they aliens from another planet that have taken over some individuals' bodies and trying to take over earth?

# 17 MATSOP I don't have a clue if they are aliens taking over someone's body or not but the more looney things I witness leaders doing, and proclaiming I don't find it hard to doubt anymore.

What's even worse is there are people that buy into these folks--- talk about a bunch of political Bernie Madoffs running around this globe-- please tell me I'm living through a nightmare and am going to wake to a sane world anytime soon.

Maybe Al Gore got to him.

On the other hand if we don't save the planet maybe I can get some reasonably price ocean front property.

Mankind has the ability to pump enough CO2 into the air to change the climate, but is totally incapable of removing any of it. That's the nutshell from which this nut sprang.

I swear, in 100 years time people are going to look back at these articles the way we look at all those images of the early attempts at human flight.

Can we just skip to the ending and laugh at him now?

Valis,

If we accept the computer-generated climate models as indisputable predictors, at best we can delay warming over the next 100 years by 5 years if bullshit such as Kyoto was perfectly adhered to.

Set aside the scientific debate, for a moment.

What is being proposed in order to 'combat' "climate change" is beyond stupid, no matter which scientific conclusion one is drawn to.

Oh great!!

Tell 'em to go basic, short on the sides and flat on the top.

Forget the Earth, Brown is looking for anything that will save his sorry ass.

It's now 48 days and counting. Let's keep this post up for a couple more months so we can all get a good laugh out of this climate morons.

"we can all get a good laugh out of this(sic) climate morons."

Let's keep it up for a generation or two so we can get a good laugh at the expense of this illiterate shit.

"...please tell me I'm living through a nightmare and am going to wake to a sane world anytime soon."

Not likely...not as long as Dear Leader and his little friends have power to do anything.

www.youtube.com

I'm not a climate-change denier by any stretch - in fact, I do think humans can cause and have caused serious harm to the earth - but putting a specific date on irreversible damage sets Brown up for easy ridicule. But then, maybe he achieved his goal of drawing attention to the issue...

More likely that in 50 days, it'll be early December, and we'll be all freezing our asses off, and looking forward to warmer weather. Good luck on the big-government-is-the-answer-
to-everything types getting much done then.

Tell 'em to go basic, short on the sides and flat on the top.

Doc's staple in the 60's. When he had hair of course. Now? Buys one small bottle of shampoo a year....

"Human activity is driving Earth's 'sixth great extinction event'"

You mean there where five before this and the world still servives? How is this possible? Who was responsible for the previous five? Must be Bush.

servives

Quick call the spelling police!

You're all naive... don't you know that 2012 is the key???? Scientists have failed to tell everyone that gravity is effected by the warmth of a Planet... therefore, as we warm up as a planet, our gravity will draw in the planet Nirubu. Do not fret though because the Aliens on Planet Nirubu are much smarter than us (since they are Democrats and all) and as the planet is about to slam into Earth, they will beam us aboard their Space Ship and carry us off to the Andromeda Galaxy to our new home planet Rylos. There we will all train to be Starfighters and use the "death blosom" weapon to defeat the Ko-Dan Empire. Just who are these Rylos inhabitants and soon to be Starfighter trainers??? You guessed it, the Mayans!!!!!

Thus, the Mayan calendar predicts the end of Earth due to global warming, yet the beginning of our new lives in "The Last Starfighter: Global Meltdown".

Actually the Mayans are saying that in 2013 you just have to buy their new calendar.

Nothing like the rantings of a religious zealot.

OK..I know this is a waste of time....but here goes.

1> "we knew all about global warming since the 70's

www.time.com

Above is the link to the Times article (also ones in Newsweek, Washington Post, Chicago Sun Times, NY Times etc) that was predicting a new ice age.

The reason that we seem to warming is that it is in comparison to a recent signficant decline in temperatures (which we are heading into again)..so ...we were cooling - then we warmed - now we are cooling again. Statistically we have been warming since the end of the last ice age 10K years ago. (and the humans caused that change?)

From a geological time look at the earth we have been on a straight cooling since the beginning of the last epoch.

earthguide.ucsd.edu

Basically the thought that CO2 causes the earth to warm is a scientific non-starter. It is for people who failed 7th grade science.

1st of all C02 is a very small part of our atmosphere.

wiki.answers.com's_atmosphere

www.estrellamountain.edu

Less than 1/3 of 1/10 of 1% is C02. By the way Plants EAT IT. Called photosynthesis - it is the process where plants turn c02 into food. Primarily simple sugar. The fact is that plants INCREASE production as c02 increases upto the point where CO2 reaches 5% (not .oo5 but 5) of the atmosphere...more CO2 the faster plants grow and the more they digest. That is why the global Warming people cannot find 40Million TONS of Carbon that they expected to find.

www.nature.com

Even the die hard environmentalist now agree that the plants are consuming more than they thought. (they are die hard for global warming because that is where the funding is coming from. Put up money for research into global cooling and see how many papers you get on that)

If you want to think the atmosphere has something to do with the non-warming trend ...then blame Argon.

Argon has a much higher energy reflective property than C02..or blame Water Vapor..it too is more reflective than C02..but neither of these can be caused by man - so it does not meet the political needs of the environmentalist.

So ..believe what you want ...that is what religion is all about...but don't think it is science

.....and out come the flat-earthers and 'The Earth is only 6000 years old' crowd.

"OK..I know this is a waste of time....but here goes."

Not a waste of time, it would be great if more people would post as well as you have. I for one concur with your views, excellent post, with good references. It is frustrating to see so many people totally ignore the science and jump on the hysteria bandwagon without knowing the facts; new religion? It has all the makings. This is a relatively new field of science with the possibility of effecting so many if we get it wrong, why such a rush to react with such little knowledge? Because so much money is involved?

Remember, that the only thing that remains consistent is change. The climate will change one way or the other and there is little to nothing man can do to chance that.

Thanks

Yet the Arctic Ice Sheet continues to retreat in spite of what any of you chose to "believe".

Satellite images of recent years show that the polar cap of the Earth has been lessening in size. About 80 percent of ice will disappear in the Arctic Ocean during the forthcoming decade. It may vanish entirely in 20 years, scientists say.

This is obviously "normal" so carry on!

Here in Michigan we have had two cold winters in a row and the largest consecutive snowfalls that I can remember. This year's spring, winter, and fall have been downright cold--- we have morphed to "climate change" from "global warming" probably because we have had a cooling trend in the last 11 years. I think we can all agree on the new moniker "climate change" since factually, climate always changes. Maybe, we're making progress.

Massey agrees: "At the moment we're in the mode of just trying to hack into general relativity to find the chinks in its armour, to find any places where it might not be working."
www.newscientist.com

You kind of have to agree that that makes sense. Lets take a proven theory and try to prove it wrong. This is science. This is how science works.

Why isn't this done with global warming? Even if it's a consensus why aren't we trying to prove it wrong just to make sure it is right? If the the theory is so strong then there should be no worries about having a debate about it.

If it cuts Christmas commercials short, bring on the global warming. 50 days to death beats 90 days of obnoxious ads anytime.

Great, so in 51 days can someone shoot this ignorant son of a bitch so we don't have to listen to his shit any more?
