Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Two of South Carolina's Republican party county chairmen, defending Sen. Jim DeMint's (R-SC) practice of not using earmarks, wrote a newspaper opinion piece claiming that he's "watching our nation's pennies," just like "the Jews who are wealthy."

"GOPers Compare DeMint to Penny-Watching Wealthy Jew"

Nothing racist about that at all.

*snicker

And they wonder why their party is so lily white.

They wonder why their Party is down to 20 percent of Americans identifying as Republican, the lowest in 26 years.

Sure Corky. That would make the inabilty to pass a Heath Care Plan even more funny than it already is.

The thing that gets me most is how they can put something like this out there without the slightest hint that...

Like Michael Steele calling his website "What Up?" only to replace that with the decisively Less(?) offensive "Change the Game..."

Are they that disconnected to the part of their brain that controls appropriate social behavior?

And I try to take them at their word.

They say they aren't racist.

I say fine. I will suspend any reactionary judgment.

And then I get to actually see their words....

Yet more of that non-racist,
non-bigotted Compassionate
Conservatism...

(lets give them all a hand people)
they absolutely cannot help
themselves...

Being that Jews are not a race, there is nothing racist about that commentary.

When I was a kid I heard people say things like, "He tried to Jew me out of a dollar." But then, I grew up, and I haven't heard it for at least 20 or 30 years.

The use of "gyp" as in "He tried to gyp me out of a dollar" is similar, believed to originate from the word "gypsy," also referring to a specific group of people.

Using Jews to make a point about fiscal prudence shows at best astonishingly poor judgment.

I thought they saved pennies to make copper wire.

How in the world could you be a county party chair and not realize that the stereotype of the penny-pinching Jew is baldly anti-Semitic? I would have thought the message reached South Carolina by now.

It's possible the question you raise -- the "how" part -- is answered by the statement that follows it -- the "South Carolina" part.

Ummm . . . yeah. It's anti-Semitic to attribute to Jews a good quality, for a change, instead of what we see on the DR week after week vis a vis the Israelis.

It was a stupid thing to say though. Jews overwhelmingly vote Democratic, and so I would assume that they're cool with these staggering deficits. Sure don't seem to be a lot of small-government conservative Jews in Washington. Or in Manhattan, when it comes to getting the Treasury to cut multitrillion dollar checks to the likes of Goldman Sachs.

Penny-pinching?

#16 | Posted by rightisright

What a streeeeeeeeeeetch!

The GOP (Got our prejudices) doesnt think one is a bigot or a racist unless one is caught holding the rope that lynched a minority.
No rope, no bigot...got that?

I'm agreeing with you--it was a mistake to compare American Jews with anything resembling fiscal prudence. They vote 80% Democrat, which means, by definition, that they don't believe in pinching trillions, let alone pennies.

"They vote 80% Democrat, which means, by definition, that they don't believe in pinching trillions, let alone pennies."

Stick to the sterotyping. It's what's helped get you clowns to the sorry state you're in today.

-. They vote 80% Democrat, which means, by definition, that they don't believe in pinching trillions, let alone pennies.

This from a former Bush drunken sailor spending sycophant.

I know, I know. You never heard of GW, either.

Of course, Obama is doing the pay as you go on health care, while RisR got his two tax cuts this decade piled on the backs of our children, those, and Bush's Iraq War, not being paid for in the budget.

I, I, Me, Me, MINE!

Well, when Democrats want to dispose of the stereotype that you love giant government and giant deficits, I'll have to re-work my stereotype of the dumbasses who think we don't have to pay it back someday. Doesn't matter to me if it's a Jewish investment bank, or a fourth-generation welfare household in Harlem--when you think you should get paid with dollars the rest of us borrow from China, it's stupid to attribute good financial management properties to either.

See? I'm agreeing with you. It's not anti-Semitic to say that "he pinches pennies like a Jew." Just ignorant.

It's not anti-Semitic to say that "he pinches pennies like a Jew." Just ignorant.

Actually, it's both ignorant and antisemitic. (You don't have to have been enrolled in Junior Cotillion to figure that one out.)

You assume to know a lot about me. By the way--didn't you get tax cuts too? If so, my children paid for your tax cuts, unless there's a special provision that college professors didn't get a tax cut. In fact, unless you're toiling away at a private college that doesn't accept Pell Grants, every penny you make comes from me and my kids.

Funny how that works. To whatever extent you think me and mine are sucking on the tit, you've elbowed us out of the way ages ago.

Come to think of it, there's another class of voters who vote overwhelmingly Democrat--college professors. Do you guys represent anybody that isn't sucking the rest of us dry?

It is a stupid statement, But I am glad someone is looking out for our money..So keep up the penny-pinching, or at least try...

#25 - Amazing, isn't it, Doc? As long as its loudest proponents continue to see nothing offensive in bigoted statements like this, the Republican party will continue to shut off the big tent.

Funny how RisR missed Clinton paying down the debt only to have Bush spend it again.

It's a compliment to say that someone pinches pennies. It's stupid to ascribe that quality to anyone who votes Democratic.

Fine, though. It was anti-Semitic and ignorant, if you say so. I'll be keeping an eye out for you when your libbie pals climb onto an Iran nuclear thread. We'll see how sensitive you are to anti-semitism then, when it's a fellow libtard saying it.

Knock it off, CBOB. It's Doc's turn to be Drama Queen.

It is absurd to piss and moan about other people's tax cuts when you know you got the same thing.

childish at best.

I didn't miss that. And when Obama becomes serious about deficit reduction, I'll be paying attention, and will credit him accordingly.

You guys are really stupid. You can't celebrate Clinton's penny-pinching, then celebrate Obama's profligacy.

Then again, yes you can. There's not a lot of coherence to your philosophy, except that if the guy has a (D) after his name, he deserves our unquestioned support. Gobama! Achtung! See the D?

I find Rightisright far more offensive in this thread than I do what the inbred morons said.

I don't know what your hard on is for college profs, and perhaps you are confusing me with Doc, but I'm the one that lives near the pier in Naples, and I for one did not appreciate getting tax cuts from Bush that he didn't pay for.

But then, I am not a self-absorbed rightwinger whose only consideration is self-interest. How boring.

"I, I, Me, Me, MINE!"

Gee, Hag, I didn't realize you are part of the ME, ME, ME generation. Were you marchin' and smokin' with Doc back then, chanting, "If it feels good, do it!" and, "Do you own thing." What was that other one about "tuning out" and "turning on???" Do you still do that stuff? I know Doc is still "tuned out" and I suspect he "turns on" sometimes too. How else could he write that amazing stuff about Vernon. I luv 'im though...beats DeadPud AND Edgar Allen Poe by a long shot.

I'm the one that lives near the pier in Naples,

are you a prof or not?

-then celebrate Obama's profligacy

Obama is producing a much needed, both socially and financially, health care plan that adds nada to the debt.

And the spending he has been forced to sign onto in the form of stimulus was required to stave off depression after your ilk got done with the economy, so any preaching from you guys is tantamount to practising economics without a license.

Are you also appalled at the extra 13 bucks a week Corky, or is that different?

Yep, it's definitely "amazing," Cbob. And stupefying, mindboggling, and very scary.

Look at some of RiR's comments about "penny-pinching" Jews:

Half of my family is Jewish. And it's always fun to hear them say that they're socially liberal, and fiscally conservative, and when I ask them when was the last time they tried to elect someone who believes in small government and balanced budgets, they can't think of anyone.

We were at a funeral in Indianapolis last month, and three of my cousins are very active in politics there. All libbies, of course. And they're no different than the libbies here--Clinton was great to have balanced the budget (although only in a technical sense); Bush was a disaster for running big deficits; and Obama might not be spending ENOUGH deficit money. I love them--they're family, and everyone in my family is great. But the dissonance drives me crazy.

Good, Doc. I'll be expecting you to show up when your douchebag libbie pals get on Middle East thread and say they don't mind watching the Israelis get torched. Funny how you're so quiet on those threads.

I'll look for you. In my opinion, it's anti-semitic to call Bush a Nazi (or Obama, for balance), or to throw the word "holocaust" recklessly around. I'm touchy when it comes to douchebaggery like that. But when I point out how silly it is for a group to vote 80%+ for big-government liberals, then to call them "penny pinching", I'm somehow an anti-Semite.

You libbies are funny.

Corky, let me know when the government will be able to expand coverage to tens of millions of people, expand access for everyone, and reduce costs. Only someone like you could believe in that.

Your reading comprehension needs work. I'm saying the stereotype doesn't fit, and it was stupid to use it. Jews aren't cheap. Quite the opposite. Especially when the Jews are liberals who--like all liberals--like to vote for people who give them free stuff. The "penny pinching Jew" stereotype quit working when 80% of them started voting for big-government Democrats.

easy now. It is better to attack and throw out terms like "anti-semitic" and "inbred morons" when something good is happening like...you know...fiscal responsibility.

Yep, sounds just like Washington, Jefferson or JFK. VERY PRESIDENTIAL. Now proceed to tell me he was tailoring his speech to the audience.

On topic - SC needs to replace the leadership of the republican party it seems.

Corky likes the kind of government that says to CitigroupGoldmanSachsAIGMorgan
Stanley, here--you guys have screwed up so badly, that we're going to give you a couple of trillion dollars. See those small-government conservative pussies over there? Just ignore them--we have the votes now! And because you guys were so generous with your campaign contribution dollars, it's payback time! And the size of the government largess is in direct proportion to how badly you managed your business. "Watching pennies"? That's for pikers! We're the Democrats!

Remember when the Democrat Party at least had a pretense that their interests were for Main Street over Wall Street? "Pay as you go"?

Ah, the memories. I'll bet the Corky's of the world put on their pompoms for that kind of rhetoric too. My, how times change. Gobama! GoCorky! Free money!

It's anti-Semitic to attribute to Jews a good quality ...

The stereotype of the miserly Jew who holds tightly to money is not a positive portrayal. It's part of the long tradition of portraying them as having an unhealthy interest in money, control of the banking system, and so on.

While I find this statement distasteful to say the least, it is no more distasteful than stereotyping all southerners, especially Texans, as red neck, racist, uneducated, wife beaters.

Isn't it getting a little lonely there with the rest of the 20 percenters?

#65 | Posted by Corky

Always has been. You'll never have a problem getting a majority to agree with the idea that you should get free stuff from the government. The kids can pay it off, after all. Right? Why shouldn't we borrow money from China and the Saudis, so dumbasses in Naples who bought at the peak don't have to lose any more money? That's what we elected Obama and Tax-Dodgin' Timmy to do, after all. To paper over the losses from the dumbasses who can't manage their own balance sheets.

The stereotype of the miserly Jew who holds tightly to money is not a positive portrayal.
* * * *

Probably not, but the intent of the piece was to make it a positive portrayal. For many of us--not too many, unfortunately--having somebody in Washington looking after pennies would be a refreshing, positive change. They weren't writing it to insult a fellow Republican.

Like I said, it was stupid. Worse, it was inaccurate.

Bernie Madoff kind of single handedly killed that whole Jew/Penny thing, didn't he?

Madoff made a fortune, and he played politics with some of that money. In total, he and his wife, Ruth, have given $238,200 to federal candidates, parties and committees since 1991, with Democrats getting 88 percent of that. Overall, Madoff and other individuals at his company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, gave $372,100 in campaign contributions since 1991, with 89 percent to Democrats.

I love how in Nulli's world, a tax cut is actually government money, that they're giving back to me.

Ah well. Thanks for the generosity, for only taking 38% of my pay last year. It would have been 45%, but I'm such a selfish prick. Washington has done such a great job with our money, after all.

Be nice to have a penny pincher or two up there, who maybe could make do with the $3 trillion or so they'll be bringing in. But the gravy train of libbie constituences is too long, even for the richest country in the world. Good thing the Chinese are there, huh.

In 2008 I voted third party, and will continue to do so as long as both parties offer nothing but gigantic deficits and gigantic government, as far as the eye can see. I decided I would no longer be part of the problem.

Tax cuts when running a deficit result in borrowing to make up for the shortfall in revenues. Thus, it isn't really your money that they are giving back - you are stealing from your kid's future.

The 90% tax rates would only be on the wealthiest Americans. This would encourage them to put back into their businesses rather than taking the cash out.

Doesn't work that way. You can only re-invest profits into your business. You want to tax the profits at 90%, ensuring that there won't be anything to reinvest.

And the hunt goes on, for a libbie who is willing to have taxes raised on himself.

It would be a marginal tax rate of 90%. Not taxing your entire salary at 90. I'm sure you knew that already. Anything over 250K should be taxed at a rate of 90%

All the social programs that make America great can be fully funded. There should be provisions that if you are reinvesting back into your company you avoid the 90% rate.

Outrageous.

But no less so than Democrat, purported civil rights activists saying even more egregious things.

While I could list what they have stated over the years, I already know the standards for outrage are selective.

It's okay for some of us to be racist, but not all of us.
