Within a span of 16 minutes, three runners died during the Detroit Marathon Sunday. Daniel Langdon, 36 and Rick Brown, 65, collapsed between miles 11 and 12 of the half-marathon, while Jon Fenlon, 26, collapsed after finishing the event. They were the first fatalities at the event since 1994.

Shit.

Weird - especially since I just returned from a lunchtime run. While most of my competitive runs are little 5- and 10k's, I've run several 10-milers and half-marathons. A mini-marathon can be pretty taxing, but damn, three fatalities in one race?

That's really gonna hurt their time.

They need to stop using zombies to motivate the runners.

Detroit just can't catch a break.

Those weren't athletes, they just thought everyone was finally leaving the dirty D and couldn't keep up.

That damn Bush.

Yeah, that's really weird that someone else would have been running after all this. It's pretty rare for people to go out for a run.

What did they die of, lead poisoning?

When you run in Detroit you have incentive to run fast.

Only the strong survive in Detroit.

LOL. You know what I meant. It seemed weird, and it was especially impactful since I just got back from a run.

Dick.

I don't think lunchtime runs to the bathroom or the liquor store are quite the same as marathons.

Weird - especially since I just returned from a lunchtime run from the cops.

We told the starter to fire the gun UP!

The timing of the deaths is rather suspicious.

Daniel Langdon, 36, of Laingsburg, collapsed at about 9:02 a.m.

Rick Brown, 65, of Marietta, Ohio, collapsed at 9:17 a.m., near where Langdon went down,

26-year-old Jon Fenlon of Waterford collapsed at about 9:18 a.m., just after finishing the half-marathon in 1:53:37, Harshbarger said.

Same part of the course and only minutes apart?

Not saying foul play, but this seems odd. Perhaps they inhaled something toxic and the heavy breathing amplified its affect?

In detroit, I'm surprised they knew which gunshot to start on

They need to stop using zombies to motivate the runners.

Way to strip all the fun out of running in a marathon.

You guys got it all wrong....

They were running-down the street in Detroit...
The Cops thought they were running from a crime-and tased 'em to death!

("Please-don't taze my bros!")

I went to college and later lived in Marietta, OH. That guy, Rick Brown, I think used to run in all sorts of events if I recall from years ago.

That's really gonna hurt their time.

......they look around....nobody falls down.....they start running.......

Mark my words: the surgeon general's office soon will report that exercise has not only been vastly overrated, but is not good for you at all. Indeed, it may be a GOP plot so you're too pooped to think or protest. herm

What did they die of, lead poisoning?

Actually, two things, ego and stupidity.

Considering the economic climate in Detroit, maybe they knew they weren't in shape for the race and decided to go for it anyway, figuring they'd soon be out of their misery.

Wow. Three guys ages 26, 36, and 65 and all dead within a span of 16 minutes.

Usually marathon runners are in fairly good shape.

The sponsors better insist on all the runners getting a pre-marathon doctor's check-up next year.

Actually, I beleive the first marathon was the run by a 26 yr old Spartan running to the rear with a message of victory for the Greeks.

He died immediately after delivering it.

Apparently humans aren't meant to run 26 miles all at once.

Hell I can run 26 miles all at once. I can run My A/C My Coffee Warmer and I can run a potato bake off under the hood all in 26 Miles at once.

#25---"The sponsors better insist on all runners getting a pre-marathon doctor's check-up next year."---- If Obamacare passes no one will be able to afford a pre--checkup and they'll have to close it up.

This would never happen if we had universal health care from our government, Obama said nobody will die ever again!

wrong. For a real human, 26.2 is nothing, not even a warm-up.

Obama said nobody will die ever again!

But the Republicans said everyone over 65 will be euthanized and there will be mandatory abortions in every elementary school!

Sad part is, you made your shit up, I'm quoting elected Republicans.
