Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Friday, October 16, 2009

You would have to go back at least 15 million years to find carbon dioxide levels on Earth as high as they are today, UCLA chemist Aradhna Tripati and colleagues report in the online edition of the journal Science. "The last time carbon dioxide levels were apparently as high as they are today and were sustained at those levels global temperatures were 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than they are today, the sea level was approximately 75 to 120 feet higher than today, there was no permanent sea ice cap in the Arctic and very little ice on Antarctica and Greenland," said the paper's lead author, Aradhna Tripati.

Wow, and I thought the industrial revolution took place in the late 18th and early 19th centuries? Damn Social Studies teacher.

Did you have a point by writing that non sequitur, ElCig? Oh, didn't think so.

Well that explains the global cooling.

I wonder if her models are flawed too.

Monckton Speaks to Over 700 at Minnesota Free Market Institute Event mnfreemarketinstitute.org

Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty in Copenhagen, Claims British Lord Monckton - wattsupwiththat.com

Here were Monckton's closing remarks, as dictated from my audio recording:

At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen, this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed. Your president will sign it. Most of the third world countries will sign it, because they think they're going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regime from the European Union will rubber stamp it. Virtually nobody won't sign it.

I read that treaty. And what it says is this, that a world government is going to be created. The word "government" actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. The second purpose is the transfer of wealth from the countries of the West to third world countries, in satisfication of what is called, coyly, "climate debt" because we've been burning CO2 and they haven't. We've been screwing up the climate and they haven't. And the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.

How many of you think that the word "election" or "democracy" or "vote" or "ballot" occurs anywhere in the 200 pages of that treaty? Quite right, it doesn't appear once. So, at last, the communists who piled out of the Berlin Wall and into the environmental movement, who took over Greenpeace so that my friends who funded it left within a year, because [the communists] captured it Now the apotheosis as at hand. They are about to impose a communist world government on the world. You have a president who has very strong sympathies with that point of view. He's going to sign it. He'll sign anything. He's a Nobel Peace Prize [winner]; of course he'll sign it.

[laughter]

And the trouble is this; if that treaty is signed, if your Constitution says that it takes precedence over your Constitution (sic), and you can't resign from that treaty unless you get agreement from all the other state parties And because you'll be the biggest paying country, they're not going to let you out of it.

So, thank you, America. You were the beacon of freedom to the world. It is a privilege merely to stand on this soil of freedom while it is still free. But, in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy, and your humanity away forever. And neither you nor any subsequent government you may elect will have any power whatsoever to take it back. That is how serious it is. I've read the treaty. I've seen this stuff about [world] government and climate debt and enforcement. They are going to do this to you whether you like it or not.

But I think it is here, here in your great nation, which I so love and I so admire it is here that perhaps, at this eleventh hour, at the fifty-ninth minute and fifty-ninth second, you will rise up and you will stop your president from signing that dreadful treaty, that purposeless treaty. For there is no problem with climate and, even if there were, an economic treaty does nothing to [help] it.

So I end by saying to you the words that Winston Churchill addressed to your president in the darkest hour before the dawn of freedom in the Second World War. He quoted from your great poet Longfellow:

Sail on, O Ship of State!

Sail on, O Union, strong and great!

Humanity with all its fears,

With all the hopes of future years,

Is hanging breathless on thy fate!

A species responsible for not only it's own extinction but the greatest extinction the planet's ever seen is at least entertaining for this long-term student of cognitive dissonance. Barring a massive nuclear exchange there will be survivors, but I doubt many of you will be among them.

Read the treaty. It's there. It is talking about literally creating a government, a financial system, and an enforcement system. That's a government with an executive branch, financial system, and a military.

Human forest leveling. I think its worse than cars, which are a close second.

I don't know why anyone pays any attention to these studies--- garbage in, garbage out.

You think but have you looked it up and did research? instead of assuming you know maybe you should go look it up and know?

That's the problem with this global warming bs. People assume they understand weather and climate but you don't. None of you do. Yet you claim to believe in global warming. Why? did you research the science or just believe what the media tells you?

If you watch the hour and a half video of Lord Monckton I guarantee you will be convinced that global warming isn't real. mnfreemarketinstitute.org - He literally proves that global warming is a fallacy.

And yet ALL of you are willing to give up your freedom for this fallacy. It's almost like you were brainwashed.

Monckton's deliberate manipulation

But we get to play music for a few minutes.

You do realize that Monckton's point was that you can take any data set and conclude anything you want to. If you watch his video and use your brain if you have one you will see that. Monckton's point is so clear that his data doesn't matter because his point was you can take any data set and make up anything you wanted to.

Also you fail to realize that the IPCC had THREE sets of data so Monckton just picked one.

Basically your article is taking what Monckton presented out of context.

No, that is what he does.

And Monckton is to be taken seriously because?

If you're willing to make up your evidence than you win the debate.

Congrats Global Warming Alarmists.

Yes, your fellow bible-thumpers have studied it and declared it the word of Satan.

I don't think the Messiah has the power to sign away American sovereignty, even if he wants to. Besides, you think that treaty would survive the Senate?

prozacboi

Interesting because IPCC has tried to get rid of the medieval maximum which is proven has been proven and is a consensus that it did happen. medieval maximum being warmer than it was in 1998.

Who should I believe? Some government politicians with agendas that has manipulated data to get rid of the medieval maximum or some guy who is spending a lot of his own time and money trying to get people to listen to the truth?

For your info it's the IPCC that manipulates data and was proven to do so if you do your research. The IPCC hasn't admitted to being wrong but they have been caught many times at being completely wrong with their predictions. Just it's not widely reported. Same with NASA if you remember.

Ya ...

vernon

Listen to these people that are posting here. Watch the media and listen to how they portray global warming as the next end of the world. It's crazy nonsense. Similar to the nonsense about jesus coming back and the rapture occurring. It's the same crazy just different end of the spectrum

It's not about the Senate approving more about this:

"However, what they've worked out is this and they actually let it slip during the election campaign, which is how I know about it. They plan to enact that Copenhagen treaty into legislation by a simple majority of both houses. That they can do. But the virtue of that and here you have a point is that is, thank God, reversible."

So they can still pass it in the house which they can do.

This is seriously scary shit and people need to be aware of it.

Ignorance is no excuse when our freedoms are under attack.

pragmatous

As the saying goes, you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.

The truth is that Monckton is a joke and all your rhetoric about being scared and our freedoms being under attack are very boring.

prozacboi

did you read the treaty? The treaty creates a one world government, with a financial system, and a military. You should read the treaty. Have you at all been hearing about switching to a new world currency? I'm not the one making this up this out there now and it's happening now.

Fact is the IPCC is a joke and despite it's rhetoric this "Freedoms being under attack" is very real.

Maybe you should take your head out of the sand and look around for yourself. Or, are you incapable of thinking for yourself that you need the rhetoric from the media to tell you what is going on?

Drive your Prius....

Can you make it? Or, do you need help?

Who cares...right now, I'm higher than I've been all week.

For all you GW naysayers...we can't keep pissing where we eat. Denial of GW/climate change/whatever doesn't strike me as the smartest path to take. We're over-fishing the oceans, and leeching Jeebus-knows-what into the same sources we get our water supplies from. The planet's resilience is not that rompin' stompin' robust to allow homoerectus to continually trash the place like drunken frat rats.

Water is the new oil.

we are simply in another natural cycle

Yer an idiot.

This has already been firmly established by this point but Spud thought he'd mention it anyways just in case we have any newcomers in the room who are unaware.

At no point in this planets history has it had to deal with the cumalative effects of Billions of humans and their attendent industries.

You have bought into the GW denial industry's propaganda lock, stock and both smoking barrels.

So again, yer an idiot.

Be Well.

It is pretty funny reading what some of these idiots actually think. The more the evidence is made obvious, the louder and more foul mouthed they get. In the next ten years these same people will be blaming the environmentalists for the government rationed food and water, and of course power from any source. They still won't have their own solar systems or water catchment systems for backup because they knew that the the whole GW think was a lie to make money. Air conditioning will be rationed and the temps will get higher, so they will blame rich liberals for that too. When the weather patterns of the world are so off balance that it snows in July and hits 100 in January, they'll blame it on sun spots.

Only one thing will never change. They will still be idiots.

pragmatous, as far as overriding the US constitution, thats fine.
You see, We the People have an unalienable and extra-constitutional, extra-legal right of revolution.
It is in the constitution, and, point of fact, is my birthright, as well as yours.
This little thing called consent of the People. As well as the fact that NO treaty can be entered into that removes the rights and liberty of We, the People, or violates ANY constitutional clause that removes our sovereign status. Such actions are defined as subversive and would constitute high crimes against the nation.
This is what happens when you have cheap whores representing you and yours. And mine.
Oh yeah, this study shoots holes in the climate modeling, as it foretells massive, most likely sudden increases in the ocean levels on a global scale. 5-10 foot rise in a single year would pretty much seal the fate of humanity. You'll be watching the muddy flow backwards.

The cascade has begun. There is NOTHING that can be done to reverse this.
Failure to evolve is criminal. You lose. Happy extinction.

THEN, once we're back in a stone age paradise, ONE huge volcano will erupt and we'll be right back where we are now. We'll all become extinct (if we haven't all frozen to death already) and Zatoitchy will be ecstatic.

Run for your life. We are all going to die.

Now, don't panic sniper. You'll be fine as long as you keep your head in the sand.

thanks rin, for awhile I thought all that co2 was going to eat up all the oxy.

co2 is increasing and the temps are going down. Go figure.

Just a thought. Plants thrive in a enriched co2 atmospheres. Would not the increase in Co2 natuarly lead to more vigour in plant life etc, which in turn would lead to an increase in oxygen levels and a decrease in co2? I understand the concerns of increased Co2 in our atomosphere, but the levels of change are nowhere near the ppm of greenhouses or other cultivar areas supplimenting with co2.

"Those who are skeptical about carbon dioxide greenhouse warning might profitably note the massive greenhouse effect on Venus. No one proposes that Venus's greenhouse effect derives from imprudent Venusians who burned too much coal, drove fuel-inefficient autos, and cut down their forests. My point is different. The climatological history of our planetary neighbor, an otherwise Earthlike planet on which the surface became hot enough to melt tin or lead, is worth considering especially by those who say that the increasing greenhouse effect on Earth will be self-correcting, that we don't really have to worry about it, or (you can see this in the publications of some groups that call themselves conservative) that the greenhouse effect is a "hoax"."
-----Carl Sagan-----

Here's an idea, instead of pointing fingers at each other, let's work together to figure out a way to fix this situation.

"let's work together to figure out a way to fix this situation"

It's too late.

Climate Change Largely Irreversible For Next 1,000 Years
The pioneering study, led by NOAA senior scientist Susan Solomon, shows how changes in surface temperature, rainfall, and sea level are largely irreversible for more than 1,000 years after carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are completely stopped. The findings appear during the week of January 26 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

We could be at the end of a 15 million year cycle.

In Science, "peer review" is quite important, It was the "peer reviews" that enabled the quicker development of oral vaccine for polio, saving many lives. The right wing view of this process belongs in the dark ages as does most right wing science. Remember their views on smoking and asbestos and PCB's etc. If you want to view science of the dark ages go to Conservapedia.com. Want to be an asshole, make fun of peer review!

I keep reading the same old nonsense that the earth is in a cooling spell from the deniers. What's up with that? Did you all get together in some secret meeting and decide this was the tack to follow? For what reason did you do this? Money? Is this like a religious belief where we all need to have faith to believe in? Reading the actual temperature is not a big mystery. We all have some instruments to track it ourselves. There is literally 10's of thousands of highly accurate instruments located throughout the world that are tracked by meteorologists and have been working for centuries to create graphs and linear plots based on multiple readings. The results are in and there is no cooling trend that is outside of established variations that indicate any cooling trend. Get over it. Get smart and start supporting whatever it takes to get a handle on the proven and very rapid warming trend.

We killed the dinosaurs, too. Damned industrialist capitalist pig bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Socialism is the ONLY solution!!!! Ban all prosperity!!!!!Hail Obama!!!!!

takes a whole new level of smart to know stuff from 15 million years ago.

Less than one degree of warming over 128 years! At that rate, a five degree difference would take over 650 years. Sort of like how the climate slowly changes all by itself!

Oh My! The sky is falling!

From Legio's vaunted site:

data.giss.nasa.gov

That's centigrade and the difference between ice and water is about .01 Degrees.

Do a little more research (it's work, but not that hard) and you can find sound data that indicates that the poles are changing much faster then the average and the lower the latitude, the less the change.

The average rise in temperature in arctic is more like +6 or +7 degrees F.

If you don't understand this why post and make a fool of yourself?

Yes, less than 1 degree Centigrade. Did I indicate Fahrenheit?

So, as I said:

"Less than one degree of warming over 128 years! At that rate, a five degree difference would take over 650 years. Sort of like how the climate slowly changes all by itself!

Oh My! The sky is falling!

At that rate, a five degree difference would take over 650 years.

Dude I can't deal with morons all my life.

"What would that be in say a million years?"

Conversely, Dude, what do you think it was a million years ago? You know, like before man like caused this whole like global warming phenomenon?

all good questions . . but it's NOT AS SIMPLE as ya made it sound

OK -
so, they had to merge the data from Galileo's thermometer era to satellite ocean data of the last 25 yrs - - differing data formats & accuracies AND varying locations need adjusted, factored - - anomalies identified & removed or balanced.
(100's of differing views on best way)

throw in some tree rings & ice cores

then pick from 100's of different computer models to make future projections

*Note - alot of the '70's ice age alarmists are now warming alarmists

**Note II - '70's ice age climate study = DYI project . . .
current Global Warming study = BILLION$ in grants

***Note III - peer review;

In the early 1980s, with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, scientists at the United Kingdom's University of East Anglia established the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) to produce the world's first comprehensive history of surface temperature. It's known in the trade as the "Jones and Wigley record" - and it served as the primary reference standard for the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) until 2007
so because of importance & controversy, hockey graphs, etc - many climate scientists wanted a closer look

so, for PEER REVIEW, scientists have requested the ORIGINAL UNADJUSTED, UNBALANCED, UNFACTORED, RAW DATA from CRU - - -

they were denied in '05, but have persisted - -
the latest story from "CRU/Climate Central Command" is "it is unavailable/lost/the dog ate it "

(please choose one)

so - regarding PEER REVIEW -
only AGW results can be reviewed now - NOT THE DATA THOSE RESULTS WERE DERIVED FROM - -
wtf kinda peer review is that ZAT??

anyway, that's it in a nutshell - -
tendencies are;

Believers = people with something to gain, folks who rely on government or have been indoctrinated (also grumpy, frumpy, & focused on extinction)

Skeptics = critical thinkers, skeptical of government, kind gentle, compassionate folks (also charming, and generally fun to be around)

PS - -
this is NOT a Dem/Rebup thing as evidenced by McCain & Grahm's AWG cheerleading

****Note IV - just curious how .1 deg accuracies were assigned to Galileo (era) records as they had "water tube" equipment that froze below 32-F (0-C) - hmmm -

MarkH, if you follow the links posted by hopeychangy then you are as big a fool as him or her. You really expect to get real science out of right wing bloggers? Not one of those links is a credible source and we have all been handed this crap before. Why bother linking to sights that have zero credentials? Let me guess, you think your a blogger too and are just trying to get attention. If you want to be an ignorant fool, I could care less, so don't bother addressing your stupid comments to me.

Al Gore's carbon footprint is contributing to global warming. If he just shut up long enough the CO2 levels would surely drop fast.

don't bother addressing your stupid comments to me.

ya did ask . . .
oops, sorry I musta hit a nerve - -

was it the "indoctrinated-grumpy" part (rhetorical)

btw, who is hopey changy? . . ur imaginairy arch-rival??

btw II, I provided no links, if I had they'd take ya to a "SITE"

"sights" are the little alignment thingys looked across while aiming a Colt Python . .
or in your case the ol' supersoaker, eh??

"You really expect to get real science out of right wing bloggers?"

How about LEFT wing bloggers? Do we get REAL science out of them? How about left wing movies, any real science there?
Are you sure you're a ringmaster or are you really just one of the clowns in the circus?

more science for ya - -

a possible pattern evolves - - -

ps- if necessary, I can dumb this down a bit for ringmaster &/or zat

I don't care what The Right says, I'm not switching to energy-efficient light bulbs!!!! Besides, any journal named "Science" is a tool of The Right. Land of the free Baby!!!

Plants: EAT carbon dioxide . . . PEE oxygen

It's called transpiration.

What a fucking retard.

Tripati assistant professor, and UCLA chemist.
Only assistant professor, LOL, you must be a complete idiot to believe you can pull these kinds of theories over on the wise populations of America, everyone knows you and all so called self made professors don't live to achieve 90 years of age at the most, much less than 15-20 million years. Unless you lived back in those days you can't prove your assumptions, we all know carbon dating is a theory and has great holes in its estimated time spans.
You like Al Gored are blowing smoke, and your phd ain't shit, or rather is a lot of bull and shit.
Another chicken little whining from the dumb ass left hoping to make the world suffer every way possible to sacrafice because of their ignorance, so they can look and feel important...

Follies in Measuring Global Warming

Before we get to the photographs of the seriously contaminated temperature stations, let's remember the other piece of evidence that is used to confirm global warming; melting of polar ice sheets and glaciers. Let's also remember that all of those ice masses have been melting for more than 100 years since the end of the Little Ice Age, something the believers of man made global warming always conveniently forget to mention. Why is that important? Because the ice began melting long before man-made greenhouse gases began to accumulate in the atmosphere, indicating a natural cause of ice mass recession.

Now On with the Show!

if it's helpful to ya I can list transpiration rates - -

National Public Radio: The Mystery of Global Warming's Missing Heat

Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren't quite understanding what their robots are telling them.

This is puzzling in part because here on the surface of the Earth, the years since 2003 have been some of the hottest on record. But Josh Willis at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming.

In fact, 80 percent to 90 percent of global warming involves heating up ocean waters. They hold much more heat than the atmosphere can. So Willis has been studying the ocean with a fleet of robotic instruments called the Argo system. The buoys can dive 3,000 feet down and measure ocean temperature. Since the system was fully deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans.

www.npr.org

So the land measures have been located in areas that have lots of development (which has just been increasing over time) around them like at airports and in other areas with lots of asphalt and air conditioning exhaust and the oceans, which are not subject to such environmental biases, haven't been showing an increase n temperature.

He tells me what to think and say, environmental science as religion is here to stay ... Mmm Mmm Mmm

It is utterly amazing to watch .. sort of like watching a turkey hump a bantam hen... it just doesn't make sense..

keep on being stupid, assholes.. humanity won't be missed or remembered.

dopeychangey..its called glacial ice melting..go back to your denying. The end is easier if you hide your head in the sand.

"It is utterly amazing to watch .. sort of like watching a turkey hump a bantam hen... it just doesn't make sense.."

If you would step away from the mirror for a second you would see that that bantam hen you have been humping is actually a pseudo religion called Anthropogenic Global Warming.

I guess I'm just a "denier" because I don't see the obvious scientific consensus that you see. It is interesting though that when scientists switch from one camp to the other, its uniformly to the denier aka skeptic side. Hence the growing division in the scientific community.

OK, you can go back to humping your "bantam hen" now.

Any idiot can create a conspiracy site with modern templates, but what they can't do is produce any real science that is good enough to publish in a peer reviewed publication. You keep pushing your blog sites and I stick to real science hopeyboy.

good news, majority believes global warming deniers are dumb shits, now that's a good Start!

47% Blame Global Warming on Planetary Trends, Not Humans (42% still blame human activity)

Voters have been trending away from blaming human activity since January.

Sixty-two percent (62%) of Democrats fault humans, while 65% of Republicans and a plurality (49%) of voters not affiliated with either party say planetary trends are the culprit.

Is the U.S. Temperature Record Reliable?

The official record of temperatures in the continental United States comes from a network
of 1,221 climate-monitoring stations overseen by the National Weather Service, a
department of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Until now,
no one had ever conducted a comprehensive review of the quality of the measurement
environment of those stations.

During the past few years I recruited a team of more than 650 volunteers to visually inspect and photographically
document more than 860 of these temperature stations. We were shocked by what we found.

We found stations located next to the exhaust fans of air conditioning units, surrounded by asphalt parking lots and roads,
on blistering-hot rooftops, and near sidewalks and buildings that absorb and radiate heat. We found 68 stations located at
wastewater treatment plants, where the process of waste digestion causes temperatures to be higher than in surrounding areas.
In fact, we found that 89 percent of the stations nearly 9 of every 10 fail to meet the National Weather Service's own
siting requirements that stations must be 30 meters (about 100 feet) or more away from an artificial heating or radiating/
reflecting heat source.

In other words, 9 of every 10 stations are likely reporting higher or rising temperatures because they are badly sited.
It gets worse. We observed that changes in the technology of temperature stations over time also has caused them to report
a false warming trend. We found major gaps in the data record that were filled in with data from nearby sites, a practice
that propagates and compounds errors. We found that adjustments to the data by both NOAA and another government
agency, NASA, cause recent temperatures to look even higher.

The conclusion is inescapable: The U.S. temperature record is unreliable.

Like I said you are a fucking moron.

Don't even come around here with you heartland Institute crapolla.

CO2 is up and we are all freezing our asses off. So that proves, what? That the day will come when Al Gore's name is a laughing stock? He did, after all, almost flunk science in college. Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$ that all these "scientists", politicians and their buddies will make with their big investments, while we, the "unwashed masses", serbs to the state, struggle with diminishing energy sources -- coal, oil, nuclear, gas -- and you know what this is really all about. $$$$$$ for the well connected, including that illiterate Al Gore, who WILL NOT DEBATE ANYONE OVER THE "SCIENCE" OF HIS GLOBAL WARMING B.S.

P.S. I saw Al the other day on TV and his face has taken on a rather "diabolical" look; all he needs for Halloween is horns and a tail. I suppose one DOES wear the mask of what one is as one ages.

Trying to talk to dopeychangey is like talking to a rock.. no amount of scientific data, evidence to his LIE sites or his god Douche Limbaugh will marginally convince him otherwise.

Hey KISSNTELL, Gore's initial internet investments are worth well over 40 million so it doesn't appear he will be a laughing stock, that plus his world wide accolades. (unless you laugh at success). It seems quite obvious you are jealous, that makes you an asshole. Now explain why righties are so ignorant on science. Did you flunk biology by saying "I didn't come from no monkry"?
