Arianna Huffington: Joe Biden met with CENTCOM chief Gen. David Petraeus this morning to talk about Afghanistan -- an issue that has pushed the vice president into the spotlight, landing him on the cover of the latest Newsweek. I have an idea for how he can capitalize on all the attention, and do what generations to come will always be grateful for: resign.

There are reasons for Biden to go away--quietly back into Delaware.

He can't run in 2012 or 2016--if Obama were to make a second term (Highly unlikely at this point).

So he should just leave now!

Sorry Murphy. Cheney paved the way for a Vice President to make decisions about Foreign Policy. Namely Executive Order 13292

www.fas.org

en.wikipedia.org

Byron York of the National Review noted, "Throughout Executive Order 13292, there are changes to the original Clinton order which, in effect, give the vice president the power of the president in dealing with classified material....Executive Order 13292 is further evidence of real power in the vice president's office[3]

www.salon.com

On March 25, 2003, President Bush signed Executive Order 13292, a hitherto little known document that grants the greatest expansion of the power of the vice president in American history. The order gives the vice president the same ability to classify intelligence as the president. By controlling classification, the vice president can in effect control intelligence and, through that, foreign policy.

Bush operates on the radical notion of the "unitary executive," that the president has inherent and limitless powers in his role as commander in chief, above the system of checks and balances. By his extraordinary order, he elevated Cheney to his level, an acknowledgment that the vice president was already the de facto executive in national security. Never before has any president diminished and divided his power in this manner. Now the unitary executive inherently includes the unitary vice president.

So unless President Obama has trashed this Executive Order or in someway voided it. It's still valid today. So You see how badly Dubya fucked this Country up. Now Shoe is on the other foot and people like You don't like it. I say Tough Toenails.

Larry

There are many instances in which politicians should resign, but there are very few instances in which they do resign.

I have no doubt that Joe Biden is a loyal guy -- the question is who deserves his loyalty most?
* * * *

Joe Biden is loyal to Joe Biden. And the idea of his resigning ANYTHING out of honor, or respect--is just preposterous. It will never, NEVER happen.

Besides, Biden is the Niagara Falls of comic relief. He is so stupid, talks so often and so quickly while thinking so little, that he makes this disaster of a presidency actually amusing to watch.

Larry--

I could care less if Biden is there or not--he is a gasbag.

It's amusing to see the left eating it's own.

At least throwing a firebomb over the bow and this is an embarassment to Obama.

Ok You say You don't care if Biden is there or not but yet You made a user blog stating, "Why Joe Biden should resign". So which is it Murphy. You don't care or You do care that He is there. I am like T Totally confusald to the max now. Please help a mere mortal Male out now. PLEASE

Larry

Well Larry, that's the name of the article. And the colon after "Huffington", gives credit for the quote to HuffPo.

At least Joe adds comic relief as the rest of the obama administration takes America down the tubes.

NO SHIT RIR. I am not THAT Drain Bamaged. I get that part.

Larry--It's Arianna's Question--not mine!!

The left is going after Obama--first the gays now Huf n Puf, The Nation's Kristol.

Biden won't care about Huff--but she makes a boat load of money and has thousands of readers--maybe millions.

Did you click on the link?

It's her article.

And like so many on the left--it was hilarious to demand that Cheney resign.

Here is the same thing flipped over.

Biden is a gaff-o-rama.

He's a useless VP. You never hear a word about him. There's got to be a reason they keep him holed up.

"Biden is a gaff-o-rama."

No, dumbass. Read your own article. Ditto for GoatbOob. Biden is doing exactly what he should be doing.

"The piece, by Holly Bailey and Evan Thomas, opens with details of a September 13th national security meeting at the White House. Biden speaks up:

"Can I just clarify a factual point? How much will we spend this year on Afghanistan?" Someone provided the figure: $65 billion. "And how much will we spend on Pakistan?" Another figure was supplied: $2.25 billion. "Well, by my calculations that's a 30-to-1 ratio in favor of Afghanistan. So I have a question. Al Qaeda is almost all in Pakistan, and Pakistan has nuclear weapons. And yet for every dollar we're spending in Pakistan, we're spending $30 in Afghanistan. Does that make strategic sense?" The White House Situation Room fell silent.

There's got to be a reason they keep him holed up.

He's just more of an Al Gore or Dan Quayle VP.

At least that was part of the Change that the President promised us.

Ditto for GoatbOob. Biden is doing exactly what he should be doing.

Exactly. As I said, he is useless, dull.

So Murphy didn't put up the article because She wants Joe Biden to resign. She put it up to stir up some shit. I can understand that one. Thanks for the clarification Murphy.

Larry

The only 'change' we are going to get is what's left over after this government spends every dollar we're worth.

Chump change.

And yet for every dollar we're spending in Pakistan, we're spending $30 in Afghanistan. Does that make strategic sense?

The stupid fellow meant he wants to bomb Quetta which he imagines to be the headquarters of some kind of taliban "shura" (parliament).

He forgets... being stupid and all... that unlike the drones you send only a few hundred yards into Pakistan.. into places that are like Injun Reservations... Quetta is a major city in Pakistan-proper.

If he wants every American in Afghanistan to die, then I guess he is on the right track. LOL

Good thing, he is regarded as an idiot.

Tell me, Nostradamus McMurky, who do you see as making up the GOPiggy ticket for pres and veep in 2012?

Biden should stay, and fight for his plan. If Obama escalates, then Biden should resign.

Arianna seems to be pissed at this entire Administration. I wonder why? Corky, can you ask Mom?

I think Arianna is off base. If Colin Powell had resigned over the Iraq invasion it would have been very different from Biden because Powell was appointed by the president, Biden was elected to his office. Biden does not have any legal obligation to obey the president or carry out any of his policies, he is free to dissent privately or publicly. If Joe Biden wanted to make his case to the people he would be within his rights to do so. His only recourse is not resignation as it is for subordinate, appointees.

I agree with Biden's stance on Afghanistan. I also agree with Huffington, not because Biden is right, but because he is generally a lying idiot.

Another wonderful decision by the idiot in chief.

Obama is in a no win situation when comes to Afghanistan.

No easy choices!

Of course, the man reason many of us who had doubts about Obama's inexperience voted for him anyway should resign. Brilliant.

man = main

I think we'd all be better off if Obama resigned and Biden were president.

Besides, Biden is the Niagara Falls of comic relief. He is so stupid, talks so often and so quickly while thinking so little, that he makes this disaster of a presidency actually amusing to watch.

"...He is so stupid, talks so often and so quickly while thinking so little"

It's amazing to me that so many righties have chosen to forget the past 8 years of Bush. YEAH!! Bush was brilliant and never misspoke.

I think we'd all be better off if Obama resigned and Biden were president.

I wasn't aware that Biden was taking such a principled stand on Afghanistan, but now that I am, I agree with your statement.

This is why I voted for Obama- Biden's knowledge and experience counters Obama's naivety and inexperience as long as he is smart enough to listen. I hope he is because I have thus far not been all that happy with my vote.

the main reason many of us who had doubts about Obama's inexperience voted for him anyway

#25 | Posted by kanrei at 2009-10-16 12:28 PM

Biden: Aug. 2007 on Obama's experience: "I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

This is why I voted for Obama- Biden's knowledge and experience counters Obama's naivety and inexperience as long as he is smart enough to listen. I hope he is because I have thus far not been all that happy with my vote.

So you're basically saying Biden should be running the show.

I would have LOVED Biden as President and Obama as vice. I would have loved Obama to remain in the Senate and actually LEARN how government works, but neither of those were options and I had to take the best I could find.

"Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." --Joe Biden

I wonder if he counted using his fingers he might get it right......

.

The left is going after Obama

The left has expectations of the President. The right had 8 years of slavish dittohead devotion.

Why Joe Biden Should Resign

It's Always refreshing to watch liberals eat their own.....

.

Ain't no way Biden could ever make such dastardly blunders as obamanation has and continues to make.

So Murphy didn't put up the article because She wants Joe Biden to resign. She put it up to stir up some shit. I can understand that one. Thanks for the clarification Murphy.

You betcha'--stirin' stirin'

LOL

Doc--

I don't have a crystal ball for guessing who will play in 2012.

I want a conservative and not a John McCain type.

Funny. I think Dick Cheney should resign. He apparently still thinks he runs the country.

Besides, Biden is the Niagara Falls of comic relief.

Wrong again. That honor goes to Spiro Agnew.

Arianna has a keen sense of Fascism!!!

Arianna Huffington knows Fascism when she sees it! In fact even the very mild and benign "comments" you find on Drudge.Com would be quickly edited and censored out on Huffington.Com.As for the rest of the Drudge commentary it would never see the light of day on Arriana's oh so "Liberal" blog!!!

"I want a conservative and not a John McCain type".

To quote you yourself, Murphy in #1

(Highly unlikely at this point).

And I bet you've ordered the book we are going to be told Sarah wrote.

Ain't no way Biden could ever make such dastardly blunders as obamanation has and continues to make.

"...such Dastardly blunders....".

Sounds like someone is a DRAMA QUEEN!

I would have LOVED Biden as President and Obama as vice.

Biden would put a cam in the WH and make it a reality series. This guy has never met a microphone or camera he didn't like.

And btw I think Biden's views on the Afghanistan situation and how to proceed are going to help to bring about a less dangerous policy in that famously unconquerable country which we don't want to conquer anyway. The gung-ho "do what the generals want" is always questionable, except to people like Joe Lieberman and that moderate John McCain, who are living in a different world, one that has helped to weaken the United States for the past 45 years.

#46...

Like seperating Iraq into three states?

Biden discovered Obama has no leadership quality in matters of security --- a sissy, still not done apologising to the world --- and that is why Biden spoke his mind.

#43 | Posted by sitdown

Sit--Doc asked who I thought would be running for the GOP in 2012.

Keep up..ok

Asfor her book that she wrote--can't wait--early Christmas present...lol

I was talking about Afghanistan, but it is highly likely that Iraq will not keep its geopolitical form (if anybody knows what that in fact is at this point) for very long. It probably depends on the oil fields and how big they are and where they are, as well as the never-ending enmity between the different religious groups and the Kurds. As you know, the boundaries of what we call Iraq were drawn up by the British several generations ago.

#50...

Biden was Chair to a Senate Foreign Committee which included Afghanistan. He was as useless then as he is now on what to do there.

(Sorry for the repeat #50)

I am keeping up, Murphy, otherwise why would I have posted #43?

Biden is as bad a choice as Obama...unfortunately, coming for Huffington's corner does not add credibility to anything...if you have ever listened closely to her, she is a 'space cadet' in her opinions and logic...she is much like Obama, more entertainment than substance.. doubt many intelligent people take either serious..

Joe,say it isn't so--- please don't resign. You're the last vestige of humor in this administration.

So joe 'the truth seaker' biden.......who said the surge would not work and wanted to divide iraq into 3 countries...that joe biden?

well if the zero takes his advice and afghanistan falls further apart, THEN HE SHOULD resign.

Would nancy pelosi assume the position?????

Nancy would certainly be someone closer to Barry.!!! and, much more his style....
unfortunately, for the rest of us..!!!
