North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agents seized 929 gallons of moonshine Wednesday stored at the home of a Wilkesboro man. The search also turned up large amounts of sugar --- used in the production of moonshine -- but no still.

Figures. Dumbass red staters don't even know you can buy liquor at stores. Probably haven't heard about the repeal of Prohibition.

Here is a guy who is clearly breaking the law in so many ways and neorightie idiot markh uses entrpreneur like something was amiss.

LOL! Where do they get these idiots from.

Funny being the stoner you all that you don't understand the black market, dull.

Actually, I've a feeling you do, but your jerking knee took control of your body and forced you to do your "red state whine" dance.

Hahaha. GoatbOoB takes the bait. It's just too easy.

Hahaha. GoatbOoB takes the bait.

Glad to oblige, dull. You're welcome!

Here in my hometown in Alabama sitting around slightly altered on a Saturday morning several years ago on my friend's porch we saw a small pickup truck pull up in front of the little house next door while several of those family members were sitting outside and a guy got out, grabbed a gallon jug sitting completely out in the open in the bed of the truck together with many other jugs, and he brought it to the man of the family - just like he might be delivering milk - but it was white lightnin' - probably made up on Sand Mountain. I could not believe the way the jugs were just sitting in the truck in the open like that.

Grumpy. A pic of one of the most famous moonshiners of all time who's allegedly been hiding out on the open seas for decades:

Carl 'Earl Bud' Carter - Never apprehended:

Yo - keeps on tickin' - that guy must have fried the link.

If it wasn't for Moonshiners, we'd never have had NASCAR...

Corn on the cob is one of the tastiest things the good Lord has provided for us here on Earth.

But sometimes even the best corn comes from a jar.

Poster #13, NASCAR has ruined itself as of late. Either that or I'm just getting too set in my ways.

A man of wisdom would probably say its a little bit of both.

When Dale Sr died NASCAR died with it as far as I am concerned. I still watch it from time to time but the passion is gone if You will. Number 3 RULED. Nothing against Dale Jr but He doesn't seem to have the same moxie as His Dad did. It could be He is still haunted by His father's death and if that is the case I can understand that.

Larry

I didn't find out that Dale had died until the next say. I turned off the TV because I didn't think the crash looked that bad. Myself, I have been a NASCAR fan for a good while. My favorites were Harry Gant back when he was a bridesmaid, and I also liked Ned Jarrett. I'm a bit partial to North Carolina, if you happen to have noticed.

I remember Buck Baker racing so I got a bit of moss growing on me.

A few years back I shot a commercial for one of the Powerball lottos, where one of the side wins was a stint at the Richard Petty Racing Experience. I know how those things go: you shoot your part (at the track, in a faux souped-up Pacer, it turned out), and then they shoot Mr. Petty somewhere else and then cut the footage together.

About 3/4th of the way through the day, there was a commotion away from the cameras, and...it was Mr. Petty! It turned out they panned from me "racing off" to him grinning and nodding.

He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

Yeah it's a damned shame He died. I loved Mr Petty too. Still do as a matter of fact. His Son is OK just not all into Him like I am His Pa. I don't know if it's just me but it seems the Son's of famous racers aren't nearly as good as their dads. I think a lot of it is they ride their dad's coattails and don't appreciate what it means to bust ass to get to be great. Too much of that silver spoon type of thing. I think that's the norm rather than the minority but that's just Me opinion.

Larry

Me Opinion?? Good G-d even I know that's bad grammar. Sheesh.

Y'all gotta give Dale Jr. credit - he beat his dad once in the three times they competed. And that's all I know about NASCAR except don't try to go near Talladega on race day.

All I know about racing is drinking shots for every yellow flag.

Well, when I used to drink that is.

when I used to drink ,I still do ,but I used to too.

Sorry Lisa,old joke

Everyone has a lucky day once in a while.

Harmless crime. If he blows himself up his loss.

In North Carolina, 930 gallons is a felony. Luckily for Jethro, this will be a misdemeanor.

FF!

all i could think of was the family guy episode where the family went into witness protection for Chris, and Peter and Brian are blitzed out of their minds in the Sheriff's Office on XXX Moonshine Jugs.

On a related note, my favorite bar in Cleveland (Bier Market/Bar Centro/The Speak Easy) is applying for its own distillers licence, Custom made Gin, Whiskey, etc.

It will be fantastic!

It wasn't until 2009 that scientist finely proved that 100% grain alcohol causes massive tissue damage to the central nervous system and the brain. They made this discovery only after 2/3 of the population of NC was proven to be more brain dead then the federal census takers.

I've had some good moonshine. But fuck that shit is potent!

I'm trying to visualize 17 fifty-five gallon drums full of that stuff. He must've had quite an operation going. Surely he rang some bells buying that much corn and sugar.

A good friend of mine was in Hospice dying of prostate cancer. His pain was so bad that a morphine drip did little to help.

I smuggled a quart of White Lightening into his room and he said he was finally able to get some sleep.

He died in his sleep a few days later . . . pain free.

Usually White does Lighten a room up REAL good. Sorry it was there TwinPac. I can be such a t total prick at times.

Larry

A sad, but happy story. Good on you, twinpac. I hope I have a benevolent sponsor at my deathbed.

i think i had some of that last year. i wonder if it was peach flavored.

First off they are adding sugar which means it's shit quality.

Secondly why can't people produce small quantities of spirits for their own consumption or to sell? It is very common in europe. I have gotten my best grappa, rakija and palinka this way. I guess it is related to the big alcohol producers (republicans like McCain's wife) forcing laws through which protect their business.

So sorry, McCain's wife is a pusher, I mean "Distributor", alcohol. I am sure McCain tries his/her best to control the licensing to sell andproduce alcohol in the US and Arizona through stringent laws.

umm, McCain's father-in law was a bootlegger

but, maybe ya can tie Bush in somehow . . go for it

The Bush's specialize in manipulating US laws and starting wars for making energy sourcing, production and distribution as profitable as possible for US companies at the long term detriment of US citizens.

So Mark instead of sounding off like an asshole why don't you comment on why producing alcohol at least for personal consumption is a federal offense that requires the ATF busting in your front door?

so what do ya want?

I have 5 gal each of IPA & German Pilsner that wiil be ready to bottle in a week . . .
Mrs h will be starting 10 gal of Pinot about then . . .

re: stills - - even tiny ones are very naughty

also re: the original article - - the guy was under surveillance for a months & no still was taken -
AKA - - they aren't even looking for it - -

the raid was a bow-shot to the guy that if he's gonna run a shine operation, the local sheriff will be collecting some tax of his own on future batches

Furio,

Most places do allow some home production. I belive in NC it is 25 gallons but it has been years since I drank so not up on the laws. Our new gov. seems to only care how much she can raise our taxes so I doubt she has changed the laws.

If I made this stuff and ran my car on it, would I get a tax credit?

Just took the family to the Apple festivl in Wilksboro last weekend. If only I had known there was a vendor for Apple brandy. Maybe I should go to the Dixie Classic today and look for one along with some fried butter.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm fried butter MMmmmmmm

No but if it were denatured alcohol you might.

Obviously this gentleman hasn't tried any shine that's better than any whiskey you can buy in a liquor store. Just a couple of teaspoons will do ya!

The guys last name was 'Nance'.

Could this be the DR's very own 'Nanc'?

My guess, yes.

Legalize it!

Seriously, being from an area where shine is not common I'm not familiar with the issues around it. Is it just simply that the people selling it are not licensed and pay taxes on it? Or is there more to the issue than that?

I am familiar with home brewing where the making and possession of the beer is legal as long as I don't try selling. Is that the same with hard spirits?

Not a red state!

Obama carried NC in the election. We have one Dem senator and one Repub. Senator, and eight of our 13 representatives are Dems.

Please try to pay attention.
