"I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee. Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations. ... I will accept this award as a call to action -- a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century." -- President Obama

Again?

We get to do it all over again?

I am going to have to go get a six-pack.

I'm outraged!

I am at a total loss for words. Sometimes, an event occurs that is so sublimely ridiculous that it becomes a parody of itself. That's what we have here.

The news could just as easily be a Saturday Night Live comedy skit or a Mad Magazine layout. If it had appeared in either one of those venues yesterday, it would have seemed a ripe subject for satire and humor. I daresay even many liberals would have laughed at the notion of Obama getting the Nobel for peace.

No sense ignoring the obvious; what has he done? Teddy Roosevelt got his peace prize for mediating between Japan and Russia and ending their bloody war. Woodrow Wilson got his for his efforts at peace after World War I. Jimmy Carter - whatever else you can say about him - engineered a singular, personal triumph with the Camp David accords which was the first peace agreement between Israel and another Arab state.

What's Obama done? What peace has he negotiated? What efforts of his have born fruit?

I suppose an organization that thought Yassar Arafat worthy of the same prize can't be taken seriously anyway. But they are. And there are implications beyond the profound stupidity of awarding this prize to a neophyte who hasn't accomplished anything.

This is foreigners meddling in our domestic politics. They have now created Obama as an international demigod, which will only play to his cult like status here in the US. It will no doubt stop the slow slide of his approval and boost his chances of getting health care reform passed. What it will mean for 2012 is too far in the future to really guess but it couldn't hurt him in his reelection campaign could it?

If he didn't have to do anything why should anyone else? Can't we all be winners like Barry without any accomplishments?

Harry Hay, NAMBLA, and Obama's Safe Schools Czar

With the revelations that President Obama's choice for Safe Schools Czar, Kevin Jennings, failed to inform anyone about a charge of pedophilia by an under-aged student along with his history of promoting homosexuality in schools, his demonstrated contempt for religion and past drug use, many people and pundits are asking -- "Where is the Vetting"? With Richardson, Daschle, Geitner and Jones all having issues that were easily search-able using this revolutionary top-secrete technology called Google... I have a different take, I think these people were vetted and they are exactly the folks that Obama and his team wanted in these positions!

Any talk of vetting mistakes or mistakenly overlooking potions of their life and history is completely bunk and should call attention to a total breakdown and fundamental incompetency of this administration.

Which brings us to Kevin Jennings, Obama's choice for Safe Schools Czar, with his checkered past and connection too and admiration for a constant defender of the North American Association for Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), Harry Hay

Really? Does anybody get the day off in honor of the genocidal murderer Columbus?

Basically, I don't deserve it but I'm accepting it anyway for the little guy.

I prefer to call it "Indigenous Peoples Day", and yes, State and Federal employees get it off as well, so schools, the Post Office and Courts are closed on Monday.

"...this prize reflects a kind of world that those men and women (previous Nobel winners) and all Americans want to build. A world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents"

That's interesting...

Although President Obama had only been in office for 12 days before the nominations for this year's Nobel Peace prize closed the entire process actually takes a full year.

Let's take a look at the president's first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule to see what he did to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize:

January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.

January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an "open house" party at the White House.

January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manual techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo (how's that working out?)

January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.

January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.

January 25: Skipped church.

January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner's swearing in ceremony.

January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.

January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.

January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.

January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.

January 31: Took the day off.

February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.

So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.

If Obama closes all foreign U.S. military bases, brings are military home, (unless we're at war,) and takes a "trade with all alliance with none" approach to foreign policy, than alright, Nobel Peace prize for Obama.

How about that?
A whole new thread for the rtards to blast their hatred from......
"But don't forget to bring a towel!"

Towelie....

Like him or not, the guy is good. And no teleprompter to boot!

Obama handled this unexpected event well, with exactly the proper tone. I disagree with the Nobel committee's decision, but he has demonstrated the right attitude about it. Score one for the POTUS.

"I prefer to call it "Indigenous Peoples Day"

Superb idea. Thanks, Roc.

That's weird. I didn't know the Nobel Prize was based solely upon time in your most recent elected office. Learn something new everyday....

unbelievable!! He hasn't even got us out of Iraq and Afghanistan,,,, hasn't even tried. come to think about it he added troops in Afghanistan!

"the security that you won't have to live in fear of disease and violence without hope for the future"

I can't believe he seriously said that.

How about that?
A whole new thread for frankie to blast his hatred from and get some good old time left knee-jerk action

Does this mean the fucking Campaign is over?

I beg to differ on the "circus" comment, it's clearly
Saturday Night Live a day early.

But I like Wurster's preconditions. But it will never happen...not yet. The ObamaMama is in bed with the bankers and they like the empire even as it fails.

Damnit, you bastards got me all hopeful about a three day weekend, so I called HR to check on it. No third day for me. Fuck!

Obama handled this unexpected event well, with exactly the proper tone. I disagree with the Nobel committee's decision, but he has demonstrated the right attitude about it. Score one for the POTUS.

#22 | Posted by rcade at 2009-10-09 04:37 PM

I'll agree with that.

I think even Obama sees this the way many of us do.

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments"

I think this award is premature. He has a lot of aspirations to bring peace, and I certainly hope he is successful in that area. Him viewing it as a call to action is very appropriate, and I'm glad he didn't use it as a forum to tout everything he's done. He really hasn't accomplished anything yet. He's only been in office for less than a year, so I certainly don't blame him for anything.

I think they should have waited until his 3rd or 4th year in office so we can see what his plans have produced before giving him a prize.

I am glad that he feels that he needs to really earn his prize. Go earn it!

May we take that as a promise that he will accomplish the same amount for the rest of his term as he has so far...nothing, zero, nada? Please make that a promise we can believe in!

Only a fawning sycophant would believe Barry earned a Nobel prize in anything other than teleprompter use.

But why stop there? Lets get Barry a real Trophy

Yes, he handled it very peacefully.

The question is:

How shocked are you going to be when he wins it again?

One minute, he's destroying the country, implementing socialism, crushing us with debt. The next, he's done "nothing, zero, nada." Go figure.

Obama is a great man with a great vision. With this comes the critics and ridicule of those that oppose change. Obama is the President of the United States, and for once I am proud to be an American. The character distortions and mischaracterizations of Obama's policies and achievements won't drown out his commitment to peace, nor will they drown out his vision for America, which in the end will produce the kind of America that most of us Americans yearn for, and one that will be markedly better than the America that he inherited from the past administrations. From inspiration to action, he is a man that has already united those who want a better America, moreover a better world, not only for ourselves, but for our children as-well. As for his opposition, their voices are slowly being drowned out by rationale and inspiration. The future is reinventing itself as we speak, and I can't think of any person that I'd rather have leading this country, at this point in history, than President Obama...

Congratulations are in order for this achievement that Obama accepted on behalf of everyone around the world who strives for a better tomorrow, and who will not be satisfied until that tomorrow comes...

It is a proud day for America, and something that all of us as Americans should take pride in...

I believe the Nobel Peace Prize selection committee is niggarigged!

Had of Obama Rejected this award it would be seen around the world as another snub by the United States towards the rest of the world. We can't afford to be seen as snubbing the rest of the world at such a dire time as we find ourselves in today. We will need the worlds help if we are to ever Right this listing ship of state. While personally He may not deserve it now. He is trying to right this ship of state and charting a new course. That's my thoughts on it.

Pretty pathetic you put all of your hopes and dreams in one man who has yet to accomplish ANYTHING!

I heard Milli Vanilli was nominated for best new band.

I don't understand.

I thought you had to do something??

He is getting it for SAVING the United States of America from the Bush and Cheney dynasties for EVER.

"I will accept this award as a call to action -- a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century."

Here's to hoping he means what he says and lives up to everyone's expectations. Wait, what does that even mean? Half the nation expects/wants him to fail, while the other half is willing to accept merely being better than Bush.

Damn. I'm left wondering why I expect so much of him.

Back to my habanero burrito.

He is getting it for SAVING the United States of America from the Bush and Cheney dynasties for EVER

I thought it was the founding fathers who mandated elections ever four years

Obama could legalize pot, ending the 'war on drugs' and ending the drug related violence in Mexico. That would be deserving.

But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women, and all Americans, want to build -- a world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents.

Among all the hypocrisies of the acceptance speech, this is among the most baffling to me....

If it weren't for George W. Bush, Obama would not be a Nobel laureate today. Just saying.

***"Pretty pathetic you put all of your hopes and dreams in one man who has yet to accomplish ANYTHING!"

You can't be stupid enough to actually believe that. Even against incredible hysterically vocal opposition he has been very productive as POTUS. You can screech and bicker all you want, but at the end of the day he's been a very good president, and will probably be viewed by history (after his second term) as one of the great American Presidents. He has brought respect back to the office, and is bringing respect back to our nation. And, the Right just can't stand to have GWB and their party's inept leadership so outshined...

Where were we at ten month into the Bush administration with a rubber-stamp congress? After six grueling vacations, he let the worst terrorist attack in the history of the planet take place on American soil, perpetrated by mid-evil religious zealots from half way around the globe...

Where did Bush and his rubber-stamp congress take us in eight years? Two un-winnable wars, complete global disdain for our country, torture, rendition, Gitmo, and the deregulation of every industry resulting in a total economic meltdown...

Just wanted to put that into perspective for you...

Compared to the Right's last "best man for the job", We as a nation are so better off...

And, if you don't know this you're either in denial, or just plain stupid...

I don't believe Obama's done enough (anything?) to deserve a Nobel, but the ire this evokes in the usual suspects is indeed highly amusing.

www.salon.com

Here's to hoping he'll earn the award he was given...doubtful, probably, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.

"Six grueling vacations..."

You know, I'd actually forgotten that. The man just had to get Texas country dirt under his toes. And where is he now? A gated community in Dallas, trying to avoid paying security costs personally.

Compared to the Right's last "best man for the job", We as a nation are so better off...
And, if you don't know this you're either in denial, or just plain stupid...

How about we compare President Obama to the best we've ever had instead of one of the worst for just a moment, okay? If all you have to do is do better than Bush, then half the people on this blog are qualified. Left or right.

Republicans Rejoice in our Day of Great American Pride - the World now RESPECTS Our President instead of Rejects!!

Our GREAT President OBAMA is Totally AMAZING!!!

He continues to achieve extreme accolades and accomplishments and in such record times!

There is almost nothing this great man cannot accomplish

Obama has delivered as promised and continues to excel all expectations!

* Reversed the 8 year Republican Depression and ravaged Economy in only 8 months!

* Reduced the Bush 10 year budget by $2.8 trillion dollars in 5 months!

* Reversed the Republican neglect and exploitation of America and culture of corruption!

* Reversed Bush Global terrorism trends and increased World Peace - winning the Nobel Peace Prize!!!

CONGRATS to our great Amercian President Obama!

Obama wasn't my first pick for prez, though I voted for him. I didn't know what to expect from him, but it's clear he's been an improvement over former times.

No one and no thing seems quite so menacing with Obama around. The number of existential threats to this country have been reduced by at least half, just by removing the militant hype of the past eight years.

Point taken, I was just trying to put into perspective the horrible choices the Republicans (as a party) have made over the last eight years. And, history doesn't lie, so how much credence can you give anything they have to say, much less their hysterical criticism???

More like a Call to Inaction.

Obama is on the spot now that he can't send the troops requested.

This is the Nobel idiots interferring with our matters.

The man thinks he is in a movie.

It's all a farce.

He could call out the global bankers that are cause for much poverty and war across the world. That should get him one.

Obama handled this unexpected event well, with exactly the proper tone. I disagree with the Nobel committee's decision, but he has demonstrated the right attitude about it. Score one for the POTUS.

I would score 10 for the Pres had he done the right thing and said he didn't deserve the award. Hell they have until december to hand it out. He should have respected the process and understood, this had NOTHING to do with his time in office. It had everything to do with HIS CAMPAIGN SPEECHES and PROMISES. Period. There is no other practical way to explain the Committee's decision.

Is there any argument he wouldn't have won it had he not won the White House?

"Obama is on the spot now so he can't send the troops requested...."

Ye gods. And if Afgahnistan is reinforced (nice for you to climb aboard), you'll send a nice letter of apology to Barack?

"What's Obama done? What peace has he negotiated? What efforts of his have born fruit?"

#3 | Posted by JustinPhx

It is SO obvious to anyone who has respect for the office and is an educated citizen.

WHATS OBAMA DONE

He Gave a speech in Cairo. Perhaps you should give it a listen if you can.

WHAT PEACE HAS HE NEGOTIATED

OBAMA made peace with the all citizens of ALL religions in the name of the USA. He gave them a REASON to stop hating the USA and to feel GOOD about Americans once again.

WHAT EFFORTS OF HIS HAS BORN FRUIT

GUESS YOU DIDN'T HEAR OR DON'T CARE ABOUT THE REVOLUTION IN IRAN happening as a result of the most recent election? This is the FRUIT BORNE from the PRESTIGE created when OBAMA addressed the world in Cairo. The CITIZENS of IRAN heard about it - too bad you didn't!

PRESIDENT OBAMA (I LOVE the SOUND of that!) did MORE in 8 WEEKS to promote world peace than SHRUB did in 8 Years! I am SURE the President will CONTINUE to build international peace and co-operation.

And I am EQUALLY sure that you will continue to bitch moan and groan and generally carry on like the WHINEY-BUTT you are.

I guess the beers at the White House with the white cop and the black professor was a good reason for the NPP.

Point taken, I was just trying to put into perspective the horrible choices the Republicans (as a party) have made over the last eight years. And, history doesn't lie, so how much credence can you give anything they have to say, much less their hysterical criticism???

First of all, it is not only the repubs. Second, as with any awards with deadlines to nominate, it is for the past and not the future. Third, as americans we shouldn't be accepting something that was not earned. The fact Obama stated this isn't for him, but for America. Well as one american I think the right thing to do. IMO that is the right thing to do. Why the left is oblivious to this is beyond me.

Monster Man, you must be a ditto brain cause you seem enraged that your President is respected and honored by the World??

Read Post #63, process it with an open mind

Hint: Get off the LushBong crack pipe of politics first

Well as one american I think the right thing to do.IMO...

Just ignore the damn post. Not worth correcting. He should have refused the award. Damn keyboard...

The Right is playing a zero-sum game with Obama. If he got the Nobel that, by definition, means they lost something themselves.

If Obama returns the Nobel, the tack will be something like: "Look at the wimp; he finally realized how useless he's been".

"If it weren't for George W. Bush, Obama would not be a Nobel laureate today. Just saying."--Zed

My thoughts exactly. The impression that election of Obama had on the rest of the world can not be underestimated.

Zed--

Obama has been doing some things pretty well --Iraq and Afghanistan--killing the enemy, withdrawing troops from Iraq ..

Don't agree with everything--the Gitmo thing is pretty silly to move those bastards here when they have a perfectly good facility there.

And Obama is pledging the 1.4 million to charity.

Just hope it doesn't go to ACORN..

He could travel the world with Bush and raise millions of dollars for storm ravaged people.

Oh yeah, Bill Clinton already did that.

Usually a call to action, then the action itself, precedes the prize. But not this time. I've always thought it's a little silly to watch the entire American Left rush to deify the Great Barack Hussein Obama even before he's done a single thing of note. But it never occurred to me that the same thinking would afflict a bunch of leftie dumbasses on the other side of the Atlantic with a big prize to bestow.

* Obama has helped stabilize the American and World Economies with diplomacy, deals and smart coordination with other Leaders - remember that from Clinton days?

* Obama has restored the respect of World Leaders and Allies, that respect also helps increase the fear in Dictators of our strong American Leader

#110...

The first rant fell on deaf ears for a reason.

Crisp Pee Brain, try to keep up.

Post #110 addressed Turd and post #105 that you applauded like a deranged chimp who also marches along blindly with any rhetoric which is damaging towards America and our great President

Damnit, you bastards got me all hopeful about a three day weekend, so I called HR to check on it. No third day for me. Fuck!

At least you get a couple of days off. My last day off was Monday and I'm working tomorrow then on Sunday I have to get on a plane and fly to Salt Lake City, UT for a week long conference then fly back on Saturday. Then I'm off Sunday and Monday.

Uranus - Please name ONE thing Obama has done since taking the oath of office.

Never ending Flying Crib 1 flights spewing CO2 around the world do not qualify. I wonder how many miles this POTUS has put on AF1 so far?

Back up one of your childish rants accusing me of.... Or STFU.

"I can see how Hitler gained power."

Godwin is a genius.

"Never ending Flying Crib 1 flights spewing CO2"

Leave it to Stir to go directly to the dumbest possible arguments. As if the President isn't allowed to even discuss global warming, because he flies in a big plane.

Ralph Wiggum strikes again!

SO if he is accepting this for the little guy, where is our cut of the prize money?

I'm sure that goes into his bank account.

Hey, he should use it to fund unemployment benefits. LMFAO.

I wonder what Obama will do with the money?

I wonder what Obama will do with the money?

I think he should spend at least a little of it on you and me, Gal.

Gift certificate to Macy's maybe? lol

garbage

"I wonder what Obama will do with the money?"

He's already announced he would donate it to charity.

Did he say which one/s, Dan? Time for Chris and I to go nonprofit.

He's already announced he would donate it to charity.

I.4 million to charity. Thanks Obama, thanks Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

It is a good day for America.

Danforth - as I've said before, your patience is amazing and inspiring. These idiots take no notice of facts and still you have the integrity and patience to correct them.

"Did he say which one/s, Dan?"

I think it was the Chris & Gal's Macy's Gift Certificate Charity.

"still you have the integrity and patience to correct them."

You're confusing patience with the inability to stomach idiots.

Actually...many thanks.

Thanks Lisa - I'd HATE to offend you because in spite of your irrational beliefs I know you are a good person :)

C & G's Macy's GCC--I like it.

haha I know what your'e saying, Danforth, but I still mean it.

It has been stated elsewhere, but it deserves repeating. The rest of the world is relieved that we have elected Obama after eight years of Bush, who governed as if he were the paranoid and petty dictator of a tiny hamlet instead of the leader of the world power of freedom and democracy; our shining nation on the globe. In a few short months, the election and actions of Obama have restored the confidence of the world in America and its ability to lead the world into the new century.

It's their way of stating that they want America to lead again.

I think it must be difficult for the radical right American under Bush to comprehend that we were a global power not just for our might, but for our promise of leadership to the world. Eight years of defending torture and illegal wiretaps and indefinite detention without so much as a legal process can do that to a person, I suppose.

It's their way of stating that they want America to lead again.

I didn't realize that the Nobel prize committee's charter was to dictate which countries they want to lead.

Interesting.

I'm sure, by your response, that you would prefer it to be another country. You criticize the Nobel Prize committee for choosing our President, which is "interesting". Which country would you prefer they look for leadership?

Can't you at least be content with the joy of the Olympics being awarded to a more deserving nation, Goatman?....

#81 | Posted by wurster - at least moore-on had the intestinal fortitude to go up against the left's favorite punching bag - HANNITY! BWAH! snowjobama cannot even claim that difficult feat!

#122 | Posted by Danforth - one with a tax exempt status? like PBS?

#52 | Posted by Hagbard_Celine - garlic cholula is straight up the best store-bought hot sauce on the market!

"one with a tax exempt status? like PBS?"

That would be great...why don't you send him a letter suggesting that?

NPR would be another great choice. I'll bet you missed the half-hour tribute they did to William Safire last week.

The rabid right is furious. Wake up. If there a Nobel War Prize, W. would have a chance.

Fascism never ends. In a free society, everyone is innocent until proved guilty.

It's their way of stating that they want America to lead again.

Bettlejuice: Just the opposite

online.wsj.com

What's Obama done? What peace has he negotiated? What efforts of his have born fruit?

A point acknowledged by Obama in his acceptance speech here.

Tell ya wot Obama hasn't done.

Obama didn't give himself this award.

He has however hit all the right notes here in his acceptance speech.

Surprise, humility, acknowlegement that it's more about wot they hope he does than wot he's done to date.

Spot on.

* reads thread *

Obama wins a Nobel fucking Peace Prize out pour the rtards trying to make it into a negative?

Yeesh.

And if he found a cure fer Cancer tomorrow they'd prolly boo that too, right?

Pathetic.

Yo, Barack. I'm really happy for you. I'ma let you finish......but Beyonce had one of the best strategic arms treaties of all time.

ROFL! FF!!

Be Well.

/And yes, cheerfully acknowleged that after Kissinger the Killah got the award it lost a lot of credibility.
//Just saying.

Obama's "Call to Action" will be more appearances on Leno and Letterman. The award itself became a joke long ago, when the gave it to Arafat.

Just changing the politics of spite to the politics of focusing on issues, and changing the direction of our govt, from the WAR mentality of the neocons is enough of a PEACEFUL gesture to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

But, I'm sure all the "nattering nabobs of negativism" here on DR and in the corporate owned media (who LOVE war and the politics of spite for profit reasons) would all have enough guts and intelligence to stand up to the HATE, Obama faced and return genuine focus on issues instead of returning the hate, and would stand up to the war profiteering corporation power structure, as he has done, eh?

Yeah, sure, right!

WTF have you naysayers accomplished in YOUR lives for peace?

And if he found a cure fer Cancer tomorrow they'd prolly boo that too, right?
* * * *

Umm . . . no, because that would represent an actual accomplishment.

But in your mind, if he gives a speech about how nice it would be to cure cancer, he should be awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine.

I digress, though. Awarding the Peace Price to Barack Obama is absolutely ideal for the times. My ever-growing cynicism needs daily vindication, and I'm never at a loss for reasons.

Gobama!

"The United States will no longer torture."
~~~Barack Obama [United Nations speech]
For those who believe in metaphysics and the power to change attitudes in a positive way (the Nobel Committee, me), this award makes some sense. For those who need proof-positive performance and profit on paper (give me the numbers, man, the fucking numbers!), it doesn't. America is more united with her allies under Obama than under Bush. We live in a global economy, so that's quite important to be viewed positively on the world scene.
Dog shit (synonymous with "Kissinger") won the award in the past so I don't see what all the fuss is about a "loss of legitimacy."
He will probably donate to ACORN... kind of sad to see the support for this award...kind of makes a pure mockery of it..
"Call to action"...obviously someone wrote that for Barry, as action is his least accomplishment other than continued campaign rhetoric..
no wonder his ego and arrogance continues to grow with so many pantywaist supporting heads up his ass to feed it..
this award should have been given to someone who has actually given of their life to the principles and accomplishments that it was really meant to be rewarded... what a slap at past winners...!!!!
Good idea.
ACORN, despite being "set up" by a bully o'lielly like ambush team of rw hacks, whose comments on the videos have been debunked in most cases, since several calls were made to police on the sting/entrapment, does wonderful things for Americans all over America.
If you knew anything besides what your favortie rw hate jock has told you to believe, based on this pathetic smear attempt, you'd know that.
Try googling up their website and see for yourself all the GOOD things they do for Americans.....helping them save their homes, helping the poor and disenfranchised become involved in the political process, etc.
Oh, you probably don't care about THOSE Americans, eh?
LOL
#148...you must have missed an appointment with the psych this week... you certainly know how to twist things around to your own sick perceptions and assumptions..!!! my opinions do not come from a following of 'hate' jocks or any other 'mouther' such as you.. nothing here about smears, just observations that have significant support...
Those crazy Swedes....and I thought people said they didn't have a sense of humor nor of irony....
From an editorial this morning:
Certainly, the prize is a (barely) implicit condemnation of Mr. Bush's presidency. But countering the ill will Mr. Bush created around the world is one of Mr. Obama's great achievements in less than nine months in office. Mr. Obama's willingness to respect and work with other nations is another.
Mr. Obama has bolstered this country's global standing by renouncing torture, this time with credibility; by pledging to close the prison camp at Guantnamo Bay, Cuba; by rejoining the effort to combat climate change and to rid the world of nuclear weapons; by recommitting himself to ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; and by offering to engage Iran while also insisting that it abandon its nuclear ambitions.
Americans elected Mr. Obama because they wanted him to restore American values and leadership and because they believed he could. The Nobel Prize, and the broad endorsement that followed, shows how many people around the world want the same thing.
(Guantanamo will be closed as soon as idiots quit thinking a suspect can break out of a super max prison here in the U.S.)
What is the value of closing gitmo if we're still holding detainees indefinitely?
HC, I agree. America should not hold people indefinitely. Guilty verdict or freedom. 540 detainees have been released and repatriated from Guantanamo so far with around 230 remaining who either need to be released (if a home for them can be found) or tried. With ya 100%.
Simply by winning, exposing and ousting the ReFlubLiCons crooks, carnage and cultures of total corruption; Obama has provided more Peace to the World and Mankind than could be accomplished in decades!
Congrats on earning and deserving your Award and $1,400,000 dollar prize President Obama!
the Great President Obama is totally Awesome - We are all Witnesses
And on the same day, another event that apparently was not seen by cut and run dems as a call for action.
--------------------
Speaking by telephone from an undisclosed location, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the U.S. bombarded the outpost with airstrikes after leaving, as well as the local police headquarters.
"This means they are not coming back," Mujahid said. "This is another victory for Taliban. We have control of another district in eastern Afghanistan."
"Right now Kamdesh is under our control, and the white flag of the Taliban is raised above Kamdesh," Mujahid said.
A senior official of the Nuristan provincial government confirmed Taliban forces were in control of the village and Afghan police and soldiers had withdrawn from the district. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.
Provincial police chief, Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangulbagh, said the pullout "has had a direct affect on the morale of Afghan forces."
"If Afghan soldiers are losing support, how can they stay there?" he asked. "We need the coalition to send their forces back. We need more police, more soldiers."
I especially like how the Obamabots have dropped their criticism of rendition now it is continuing with Obama's support under his watch.
"If Afghan soldiers are losing support, how can they stay there?" he asked. "We need the coalition to send their forces back. We need more police, more soldiers."
