The Pakistani Legislature is angry that the executive unquestioningly accepted a US aid bill, with American pre-conditions it considers odious. A debate has erupted over whether to reject or accept the aid, or to go forward with a re-negotiation of the aid bill. The situation is developing as we read.

More updates will be forthcoming on this facet of relations between the US and its designated Non-Nato Ally.

Our Legislature is called the Parliament, consisting of the National Assembly (Legislative Representative Lower House) and the Senate (Deliberative Selective Upper House).

Just to get the nomenclature right.

The Americans said we should be democratic; well heres your democracy; fully functioning and in action.

Yankee Friends Enjoy.

All money comes with conditions.

Pakistan ranks as one of the most corrupt countries on Earth. Hardly 'fully functioning.' Big bad india beats you by 57

Pakistan ranks as one of the most corrupt countries on Earth.

There is far less corruption in Pakistan than in India, according to their biggest trading partners, the Russians.

Your list isn't accepted by the UN or any other reputable agency, Vermin.

Well, they would know.

So I take it as read that the Paki Parliament just wants free money?

Can't blame 'em for trying. And it would make a bad headline, hours after getting the Nobel Prize, for the Obama to tell Pak to drop dead. The US will probably roll over, and double down besides. Watch.

Well, news this morning was that some senator guy called Gary Ackerman, said that if Pakistan rejects the oh so generous American "aid", he would do everything in his power to stop America sharing military equipment with Pakistan.

When a country is designated a "major non-NATO ally", it has a right to any equipment the US is not using at the moment.

6 Oliver Hazard destroyers are being transferred to the Pak-navy, for example.

Ackerman, said he would like to stop that even though it is not part of the "aid".

It seems the Americans are really desperate for Pakistan to take the money so that it would give them some kind of leverage or oversight into the Pak military.

And that isn't going to happen.

Parliament will use this to hit President Zardari on the head with.

Right now, it is personally very embarrassing for the thief we call "President", now that the military has put it's foot down.

It will probably be debated in Parliament and American conditions attached to the bill will be formally rejected.
