A new AP poll shows President Obama's job approval rating rising while internationally the United States rose from seventh most admired country in 2008 to the number one position in 2009. "What's really remarkable is that in all my years studying national reputation, I have never seen any country experience such a dramatic change in its standing as we see for the United States in 2009," explains Simon Anholt, NBI founder and an independent advisor to over a dozen national governments around the world.

Half of the change in international standing has to do with removal of the twin skid-mark stains known as George W Bush, and Deadeye Dick.

The other half reflects optimism that Pres Obama has shown diplomatic maturity unknown in this country during the Bush years.

Most of our criticism was the result of our actions so it appears a president that does nothing is rather popular.

Poll is not even mentioned in the article. The "AP Poll is linked to this same post. Which is it, an AP poll or the opinion of Simon Anholt who works for GfK?

"Brand America is now ranked #1 by global citizens, according to the GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media, a division of GfK Custom Research North America."

Who are these global citizens?

"Simon Anholt is an independent policy advisor, author and researcher. He specialises in national identity and reputation, public diplomacy and the 'brand images' of nations, cities and regions. Anholt developed the concepts of the 'nation brand' and 'place brand' in the late 1990s, and today plays a leading role in this rapidly expanding field."

"Nation "Branding" Explained
Although the word 'brand' is used a lot in this context, Simon Anholt's work has nothing to do with marketing, advertising or public relations."

Did they include the Taliban in the Poll?

That yer focus Wissie?

Pity W couldnt keep focused on the Taliban aint it.
It might be all over by now. Instead, W,s great war of choice in Iraq took precedence and the momentum kinda disappeared did it not?

Polls: At Home and Abroad Obama's Popularity Rises

"That's not what Rush Limbaugh and FoxNews says. Everyone hates Americans and everyone hates Obama. Rush told me so......."

See ya in 2016!!

If Obama is doing nothing, why are you always complaining about what he's doing?

The Obama popularity polls show why simply yes or no polls don't cut it.

The Big O is far from the great reformer I'd hoped. He promised change I can believe in and he has not yet delivered. A radical he's not. A socialist? Hardly. A mooselim Kenyan? You're kidding me.

BUT ... And that's a mighty big BUT. He's not George W. Bush. That is a humongous plus. And as long as he remains Not Bush, he will get a vote of approval from here. herm

The title is a complete crock. To try to say his popularity is rising based on a historical poll that doesn't even have anything to do with measuring his popularity

We know the actual popularity number is at 40, the lowest of any prez ever so early in presidency.

As far as the rest of the title, 'most admired' is also a crock. We are detested for our abuse of our dollar insomuch that the latest news is the oil trading will no longer be done in dollars causing a record high price in gold.

Let me explain so a retard doesn't try to undermine the previous statement. The only popularity poll that matters is the people to which he is accountable to.

Actually, since he is now the 'President of the World', that popularity number is a completely different question that has no comparison to any point in history.

I don't know where you get 40. Here is a quote from the story concerning the poll of the people he is accountable to:

"An Associated Press-GfK poll says 56 percent of those surveyed in the past week approve of Obama's job performance, up from 50 percent in September."

And here is a quote from the national story about being the most admired nationally:

"The results suggest that the new U.S. administration has been well received abroad and the American electorate's decision to vote in President Obama has given the United States the status of the world's most admired country."

So, clearly the title fits.

Actually the 40 number is most likely out of date. That is just the last one I had seen.

From: The daily Rasmussen poll for Oct 7, 2009:

daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 29% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -8 (see trends).

Explanation of the poll:
The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern

Even using the lower standard "somewhat approve", the number at best is 49%. So 65% is clearly way out of bounds.

"Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty percent now (50%) disapprove."

I have trouble with Rasmussen polls.

RealClearPolitics does a round up of all the polls. Notice how Rasmussen is the only poll with a spread that often runs in the red - showing just how different Rasmussen's numbers are compared to all the other polls done at the same time trying to gauge the same public sentiment.

www.realclearpolitics.com

what about the question that only Rasmussen separates out the standards of "somewhat approve" vs "strongly approve"?

the only poll that matters is november--even #ed years. fucktards can stfu til 11-10 and 11-12. those polls matter...til then we'll gladly laugh at your retarded opinions while you pine for pailin, cheney, vitter, ensign et al...

#18 | Posted by L_RContrarian: what about the question that only Rasmussen separates out the standards of "somewhat approve" vs "strongly approve"?

If none of the other polls do this (and I don't know if that's true) then that could explain why they are often coming up with results that are so different than the other polls.

If this is the case then they've chosen a polling method that no other pollster subscribes to which still makes me leary of their results.

Obama is more popular in Canada now than before the election.

Of course, compared to the lunatic who preceded him this is hardly surprising.

As Herm notes above he's not the Great Reformer Spud hoped he be but he's a still a hell of a lot better than all available alternatives.

Spud just wants him to grow a pair and either bring the rtards on board in terms of reforming health care or cast them adrift with the nuclear option.

If ya can't enjoin 'em, nuke 'em.

Be Well.

"The U.S.'s job is expensive, dangerous and unpopular. But our role largely explains a half-century of unprecedented global prosperity -- and so far the absence of World War III.

In contrast, the more Obama blurs the difference between allies and enemies, the more he depresses the former and encourages the latter.

At the present rate, America will become ever more liked - and ever less respected. We saw a little of that in Copenhagen."

Well said. Newsworthy.

Spud just wants him to grow a pair and either bring the rtards on board in terms of reforming health care or cast them adrift with the nuclear option.

I so agree with that.

Sounds like an argument for the U.S. to resume its historical role as the world's policeman. Oddly, a role W. Bush campaigned against doing when he was running for his first term. (before 9-11, before he launched two wars)

I don't think the world's prosperity can be attributed to America spending a ton of money and sending our children to die to beat up on the bad guys of the moment on regular basis. I think that is greatly overstating America's role on the international stage.

I don't know where you get 40.

If you had kept reading you'd have seen I corrected by saying that number is out of date and too high. I provided the latest Rasmussen numbers that shows the results of both standards, "somewhat approve" and "strongly approve"

I couldn't give a crap about any retards at fauxnews. I am not a neo-con. I don't form my opinions on political ideology.

Associated Press is deeply in the pocket of the New World Order. Obama is that organization's Presidential candidate. What would you expect, since no independent source verifies the statistical credibility of AP polls.
