Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, October 06, 2009

"The eager young men at Conservapedia are p.o.'d that the Bible might be seen as too liberal. So they've come up with the Wiki-style Conservative Bible Project, to make sure the Lord doesn't go all wobbly on us," writes Rod Dreher. The goal is a "fully conservative translation" without liberal bias or "gender inclusive" language and with more "free market parables."

"Time: Conservative Bible Project 'Insane' but 'Green Bible' Evangelical-friendly"
newsbusters.org

Change number 1: Remove all trace of Jesus of Nazareth's life and deeds.

If the bible is god's word, how can it change?

"Just take out everything Jesus Christ said and we're good to go!"

- Conservatives

If the bible is god's word, how can it change?

9-11 changed everything.

"Just take out everything Jesus Christ said and we're good to go!"

Yup. Subtract all that "feed the poor, heal the sick" stuff, and remove ALL the stuff about adultery, and it's all AOK. Oh, and remind us...there's nothing about meth or gay hookers, right?

The "Conservative" Ten Commandments"

I am the Lord your God
You shall have no other gods before me unless it is money.
You shall not make for yourself an idol unless it is good for you politically.
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God too often.
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy unless there is campaigning, commerce or a good football game to be had.
Honor your father and mother
You shall not murder unless they are of a different faith or they had it coming.
You shall not commit adultery unless your soul mate lives in South America.
You shall steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor unless by doing so gets you what you want.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife unless she is really hot.
You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor except if it is really cool.

Andy:

It doesn't change. Revelation states no word of man nor stroke of pen will ever change the meaning of these words. Yes, man has changed words, which God who is all knowing knew they would but that is why He said MEANING of these words. And the meaning has NOT changed.

The biggest problem today is that man has tried to change not only the Image of God to fit their idea of what they think God should be but also have taken Gods Word and misused it for their own purpose as well.

Neither God nor His Word, will ever change.

Have a great day, everyone!

"It doesn't change."

Yup.
Always fairy tales for idiots.

So now I know why Christian posters can say "fuck" and "shit" and call people assholes here.

How convenient for them.

You didn't put ellipses around "assholes", TED. What a pottymouth.

You didn't put ellipses around "assholes"

Maybe he thought his own lips were sufficient.

j/k ted... I couldn't not do that.

Take advantage of that setup, I mean. Not put my lips on asshole. Just for clarity.

Plus, the punctuation he was looking for is not an ellipsis, but rather, a quotation mark or quotation marks. Ellipsis is that three little dot thing that Skizziks abuses so frequently, although he does throw in extra dots all over the place and I don't know what the hell that would be called. Ski'd marks?

How do y'a know god is a he?

G-d's word doesn't change, but the translation does quite often.

So now even the bible is part of the damned liberal media?

lol

Good luck with the worms.

There is one Conservative aspect to the Bible- Jesus was innocent when they executed him. That keeps up with the GOP.

Yup. Subtract all that "feed the poor, heal the sick" stuff, and remove ALL the stuff about adultery, and it's all AOK. Oh, and remind us...there's nothing about meth or gay hookers, right?

I must have missed the part where it says the government has a right to make you do those against your free will through redistribution of wealth. I guess you forgot the part about treating your body like a temple.

Good luck with the worms.

You too. That's the only thing waiting for any of you after you croak...

"I must have missed the part where it says the government has a right to make you do those against your free will through redistribution of wealth."

If you're wanting a Christian nation, we'll have to make feeding the poor and healing the lame national policy. And, of course, codify into law rules about honoring parents, keeping the Sabbath holy, and outlawing both adultery and coveting.

"I guess you forgot the part about treating your body like a temple."

And you the part about God giving us all the plants for our use.

"I think what God meant to say........."

WOW!

I've never been THAT confident.

(If Bill Hicks were alive today, would Republicans still exist?)

And you the part about God giving us all the plants for our use.

So it's OK what Barney Frank does with that cucumber?

#16

Man often translates things to suit his own purpose. But it doesn't make that "translation" correct.

And Zombie....the worms can have my body, my spirit will be elsewhere! :)

You too. That's the only thing waiting for any of you after you croak...

"So it's OK what Barney Frank does with that cucumber?"

Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?

That's what I thought. Then that sick fucker with the wrench showed up!

FF!

Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?

I'm much more concerned with what comes out... it seems to be the majority of the republican platform.

Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?

Who said anything about assholes?

Oh. A leftie. Why do they always assume everything is about assholes?

It doesn't change. Revelation states no word of man nor stroke of pen will ever change the meaning of these words. Yes, man has changed words, which God who is all knowing knew they would but that is why He said MEANING of these words. And the meaning has NOT changed.

really? explain for me the concept of the Holy Trinity and when did it originate?

In the beginning there was God.

You shall have no other Gods before me.

Now there is the "Holy Trinity".

That would be Three Gods.

Seems to me that the "meaning" has changed as well as the words.

When controversy over the matter of the Trinity blew up in 318 between two church men from Alexandria - Arius, the deacon, and Alexander, his bishop - Emperor Constantine stepped into the fray.

Although Christian dogma was a complete mystery to him, he did realize that a unified church was necessary for a strong kingdom. When negotiation failed to settle the dispute, Constantine called for the first ecumenical council in Church history in order to settle the matter once and for all.

Six weeks after the 300 bishops first gathered at Nicea in 325, the doctrine of the Trinity was hammered out. The God of the Christians was now seen as having three essences, or natures, in the form of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The matter was far from settled, however, despite high hopes for such on the part of Constantine. Arius and the new bishop of Alexandria, a man named Athanasius, began arguing over the matter even as the Nicene Creed was being signed; "Arianism" became a catch-word from that time onward for anyone who did not hold to the doctrine of the Trinity.

It wasn't until 451, at the Council of Chalcedon that, with the approval of the Pope, the Nicene/Constantinople Creed was set as authoritative. Debate on the matter was no longer tolerated; to speak out against the Trinity was now considered blasphemy, and such earned stiff sentences that ranged from mutilation to death. Christians now turned on Christians, maiming and slaughtering thousands because of a difference of opinion.

ah yes, religion at it's finest... slaughtering thousands over a difference of "opinion".

Emperor Constantine

That is ALL that needs to be said.

Face it, Christians aren't following a God or Jesus. They are following a First Century Emperor. You have to wonder, while trying to keep control over his people that he had any idea that his control over people would span 200 years and cross the globe.

Bowing to the desires of one man seeking to rule all others.

That is a pathetic way to go through life son.

They are following a First Century Emperor.

Actually Constantine was a 4th century emperor, but point is taken and is valid

Not sure if I should blame that on my spelling or math skills.......

"They are following a 1st (4th) Century Emperor...."

Just silly. Who do you think the Christians living before Constantine were following? That would be three-hundred years plus.

When I first saw this story I was not surprised, it seems like a natural move for the FOX-Republican Nation. So I guess the passage about a Rich man getting into heaven will be change soon. The lengths that these brain dead Fucks will go to appease themselves is almost unbelievable. Funny never saw this story on Fox News HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAQHAHAHAH
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
AHAHAHAHAHAHA....You just can't make this shit up, if this continues I promise you the FOX-Republicans will go the way of the WHIGS!!!!!!!

Some can just read the transcripts. There are many holy transcripts and some not deemed suitable for the Holy Bible. I can't read them as I can't read hebrew or arabic. The history is interesting but even that is translated.

I personally think the interpretation of the bible is a personal thing.

The words DO change. Surely their meaning, The Hebrew/Aramaic word for alive was "breathing." Recognizing that would cut the spikes right out from the "Christian" fetal rights movement. herm

John 12:1.1
"Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. And lo, Jesus said to him, why hast thou not compensated your Lord for His mercy? And thus, Jesus reposessed the life he had resyrected saying, if thou will not pay for health care then thou shalt die."

Who do you think the Christians living before Constantine were following?

I think the point was that, had it not been for the widespread promotion of Christianity by a major ruler, adherents of the early Christian church would have gone the way of the cult of Mithras.

This is an ellipsis: "..."

These are apostrophes: " "" "

Suck it.

"I think the point was that..."

Christians were one third of the Roman Empire at the time of Constantine, despite numerous and at times extreme persecutions.

Christians were deep in Africa and in Asia, in large numbers, by this time as well.

All of this growth was accomplished by pure moral suasion. There's no reason to think it would have stopped in after 4th Century.

I think it's valid to state Constantine may have hitched a ride to what he saw as the wave of the future.

With respect, NESS---I'd no more trust you with a history book than a loaded gun. But at least with the gun you'd only be capable of harming a few people.

"You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor except if it is really cool."

I'm easily amused, I know, but that one made me giggle.

"I guess you forgot the part about treating your body like a temple."

ElCid, you ever eat a Twinkie?

#40--Good point, Ness.

As for commandments, I forget where I read this, but I once read a very cool interpretation of "no gods before me." It isn't that there _are_ no other gods; it's that He is the most important. No other gods _before me_, as in pecking order. (No, Lisa, I'm not meaning to demean.) Tangentially, I have also heard a cool interpretation of "an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth"--it's not about revenge but about limitations (no more than an eye if you take out my eye). Who the hell knows, but I love interpretation. (And I had a great chat with a true believer student today, about Kirk's assertion in the other thread that time began when the first sin was committed. The student didn't buy it. God's six days, after all.)

""""

Sorry. Those are the ancient Martian symbols for fusion.

The whole thing about God drawing man in the sand and all that = we are all made of the dirt and we will return to it. Makes sense to me. Just a personal interpretation.

As far as the first sin goes, thanks a lot Adam and Eve! My wife and I enjoy sex and the kids are great, (just two and no more.)

All of this growth was accomplished by pure moral suasion.

So a evolution of morals espoused by a jew crawls across the western world -- that's hardly proof of divinity

by pure moral suasion

And a bit of genocide along the way, but let's sweep that unpleasantness under the rug.

Sorry. Those are the ancient Martian symbols for fusion.

I've been to a few planets before but I haven't been to Uranus yet.

Being a gas giant, you'd be unable to land. You'd have to be be content to orbit with the Klingons

"That's hardly proof of divinity...."

You need to decide what you'd accept as proof. If there's nothing, then why you participate in this sort of conversation eludes me.

To help you out a bit, you can take a lead from ZAT---He wants God to blow him---But only within randomly designated five minute time periods.

I've been to a few planets before but I haven't been to Uranus yet.

Sorry, I'm not going to bend over and try to squeeze you in for a tour, but I'll give you a description. It's cold and full of gas... mostly methane.

He wants God to blow him---But only within randomly designated five minute time periods.

I could see god blowing him one day... and then just quitting in the middle of it.

"Hey, you only asked me for 5 minutes"

I wiped out the klingons awhile ago.

Simple enough for an omnipotent being. Removes any doubt and no faith required.

I'm sure god, being omnipotent has the time.

I'm sure god, being omnipotent has the time.

If god is your father in heaven, wouldn't it be gay for him to blow somebody?

Which gets back to the question... can god sin?

Have you seen the movie "Antichrist"? It's a bad trip. If they make a sequel, god will blow someone in it. And then bite off his dick. And then god will kill himself.

But yes... it would be incestuous homosexuality.

Hey the Right Wingers don't have a lock upon Christianity no matter what Jimmie Swaggary Dr Dobson the late Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson have to say.

Bible would be a great book ifin it wernt for dem Jews and A-rabs in it.

If you guys don't watch out, Zed is going to come back.

"The student didn't buy it. God's six days, after all."

It must be frustrating to try to teach those who already "know" everything. I wonder why such students even pretend to "learn" when the Bible tells them everything they need to know.

Bible would be a great book ifin it wernt for dem Jews and A-rabs in it.

That's right. I don't bother reading the bible, I just watch the 700 club every morning.

I know Rcade is liberal but I didn't think that he would be so liberal in his deletions. Honestly I had more respect for him than that.

You do realize that 'The Government' isn't some monolithic entity. It's comprised of people. The very same people who mostly read the bible and believe in helping the sick and the poor.

I never cease to be amused (you here are so predictable that you have become a joke in your predictability). Go on, Goatman, prove me right, and claim your post had nothing at all to do with a gay-anal reference. Tell us all you were just referring to him "tossing a salad".

While Muslims may hate me, they hate ALL of us here in America. But here, in my own country, it's the right-wing religious extremists (the ones detailed in this article) that want to call me 'Un-American' and change laws so that I have to acknowledge their god alone.

Fuck you and your pathetic call for 'balance'.

"They are following a 1st (4th) Century Emperor...."

Just silly. Who do you think the Christians living before Constantine were following? That would be three-hundred years plus.

#35 | Posted by Zed

but belief was fragmented and many were Gnostic. Constantine consolidated the x-tians under threat of death for non-believers.He consolidated power and the direct line to god to be attainable only through the Holy Roman Church..his goal was unity first and foremost with a single belief, preservation of the Roman empire which the western roman empire collapsed anyway with Eugenius in 394. The fragmented East and West continued with West collapsing in 476 under Romulus Augustulus which was a descendant of Honorius who shat away the power of the west by having Rome sacked by the Visigoths.

Its all about power, control and money and still continues to this day. Its the pawns that believe otherwise.

"Who's the one that came right out and said "asshole"?"

Thanks for proving my point.

As if anyone on this blog actually believes you brought up Barney Frank and a cucumber by accident or coincidence.

And if there was any doubt, your #83 confirms it, as Nulli made no reference to assholes, yet you did, again.

Thanks for proving my point.

???

What point? That "Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?"

Wow.

Let's take one example of a righty -- the machinist on this rig. Please explain to me how I proved he was obsessed with guys' assholes and what goes in them.

Seems to me you are obsessed with an entire group of people obsessing with assholes. LOL

"What point? That "Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?""

Dude...if you're going to pretend your comment out of left field about Barney Frank and a cucumber had nothing to do with his asshole, we're all just going to sit back and laugh.

Pretend away. I can use the chuckle.

No answer, huh, dan about how I proved your point with the question about my machinist?

I didn't think so.

Thanks for proving my point.

"No answer, huh, dan about how I proved your point with the question about my machinist?"

Who was talking about a machinist?

Truly, Goat, this is the time to laugh and shrug it off. To pretend your post about 'Barney and the Cucumber' wasn't a gay reference is stupid. No one will believe you. Best to chuckle, admit what it was, and move on. Pretending otherwise just makes you look foolish, post after post.

Who was talking about a machinist?

You, indirectly. You said, "righties". The machinist is a "rightie", so you were talking about him being obsessed with assholes too, correct?

Or do you deny using a broad brush in this statement: Why is it righties are always so obsessed with other guys' assholes, and what goes in them?"

To pretend your post about 'Barney and the Cucumber' wasn't a gay reference is stupid.

Did I ever deny it?

"You, indirectly. You said, "righties". The machinist is a "rightie", so you were talking about him being obsessed with assholes too, correct?"

Sorry...if that's where you insist on going, forget it. I'm not about to indulge your obtuseness tonight. In the meantime, pretend away. I can use the chuckle. You're not fooling anyone.

G'night.

Interesting to be lectured in Roman history. All of the ruminations about ancient power and politics is beside the point.

The point is that over three hundred years before Constantine rose to power Something Very Big happened in Judea unexpectedly.

People have never stopped talking about that Very Big Thing. Atheists seem particularly fascinated by it.

Out of fascination grows love.

And what about those Gnostics? I expect to speak with any number of them in Heaven.

The point is that over three hundred years before Constantine rose to power Something Very Big happened in Judea unexpectedly.

It wasn't unexpectedly. Judea was an occupied state. Prophets and Messiahs were a dime a dozen. One came along who was a lot smarter than the others and had a really a cool message of peace that was music to the ears of the people of the occupied state. Since they couldn't win militarily against the Romans, the pulled a Ghandi 2000 years before Ghandi pulled a Ghandi.

The message was admittedly a good one and spread.

That doesn't mean anything divine happened.

"One came along who was a lot smarter than the others..."

Interesting the ancient Jews never met a smart man before Christ. Obviously, they didn't know how to handle that.

But maybe Jesus was a Very Smart Man, or even a Very Very Smart man? The smarter you make him the closer He becomes to who He said He was.

The smarter you make him the closer He becomes to who He said He was.

So if he was as smart as Marilyn vos Savant, is she god's only begotten daughter?

"Cool message of peace that was music to the ears of an occupied state..."

This is where your lack of history lets you down. The Jews were expecting a militant Messiah and their warlike qualities led to their destruction within fifty years of Christ's death.

Maybe Jesus never even existed.

There are no contemporary records of any of these events. They are entirely fictional.

Interesting the ancient Jews never met a smart man before Christ. Obviously, they didn't know how to handle that.

There have been many charismatic figures throughout history with whom the masses have become enamored. And yes, you are right -- sometimes the people don't know how to handle that.

"That doesn't mean anything divine happened...."

Jesus said He was God and created a limited set of very interesting proofs. You aren't impressed.

Nothing I can do about that except feel sad. I could get our church to pray for you, and in fact might. Though the name "Goatman" might seem a bit strange, I think God knows who you are.

There will be no contemporary records of ZORG in two-thousand years, either. Frankly, I don't think you exist now.

Maybe Jesus never even existed.

Perhaps the Jesus stories are a compilation of the many prophets who lived during that era.

I don't discount that a clever philosopher who may have known a few parlor tricks named Jesus existed, but he was only a man.

The Jews were expecting a militant Messiah and their warlike qualities led to their destruction within fifty years of Christ's death.

As I said, they came to realize they could not militarily defeat the Romans, so they took the Ghandi route with Jesus' message

"A clever philosopher..."

Is a good start, GOATMAN. Watch out, this is how you get sucked-in.

"They came to realize they could not militarily defeat the Romans...."

Except there was never any such realization. Have to play badmitton with the net, GOATMAN.

"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:

fourth generation of them that hate me;"-Exodus 20:5

"God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies"-Nahum 1:2

Jesus said He was God and created a limited set of very interesting proofs. You aren't impressed.

No, I'm not. I am very aware how stories can grow and change. Ever play "telephone" in elementary school? Think what could happen in 2000 years time

Nothing I can do about that except feel sad.

Don't let it get you down. I'm a very content person. Surely you could want nothing more than everyone be content? Well, I guess you do. You expect them to pray to your god as well. That's pretty selfish of you, zed.

I could get our church to pray for you, and in fact might.

Feel free to.

"I don't think you exist now."

You're right. I don't.

And neither do you.

"Think what can ahppen in 2000 years time...."

Not much on history at all, are we? is your contempt for this subject so great you never lokked into the basics?

Watch out, this is how you get sucked-in.

I'm a good swimmer who doesn't fall for myths and fables. Never have.

"How do you know that...?"

Uh, destruction of the Temple by Titus?

Not much on history at all, are we? is

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Vagueries don't add much to the conversation and indeed appear to be deliberate distractions.

"Doesn't fall for myths and fables...."

That's great. I see myself the same way.

Uh, destruction of the Temple by Titus?

HOw is that proof that the jews never came to the realization that they were unable to defeat the Romans.

Remember we are talking about an entire era, not a year in history

"Vagueries..."

There's an entire field of scholarship devoted to the provenance of the New Testament. You only need to study it a bit to catch your own errors.

"How is that proof...?"

Why launch a rebellion if you think you can't win?

There's an entire field of scholarship devoted to the provenance of the New Testament.

I don't do circular arguments, zed. "Jesus' story (i.e. the NT) is true because it says it's true. You just need to study it"

Sorry

"We're talking about an entire era..."

An era that ended definitively in the 1st Century. The facts have been well-known for 2,000 years.

Why launch a rebellion if you think you can't win?

What was the outcome of that rebellion, zed?

Perhaps that was what finally led them to believe they could not defeat the Romans militarily

"Provenance", GOATMAN, "Provenance"---You asserted the New Testament was created through a game called phone book. I'm just reminding you there are entire libraries establishing it was not.

Scholarship backed up by archaeology. I think you know all this, so what's your point?

When the romans came to kill him jesus said: "Infallible leaders anointed by god."

"Perhaps that was what finally led them to beleive they could not defeat the Romans militarily..."

You mean the Roman-enfored DIASPORA? LOL. Sure, you bet. You're aware how strangely you're behaving? What's your point?

You asserted the New Testament was created through a game called phone book.

I assert stories change

Weren't the gospels written decades after Jesus' death and none first hand?

"I assert the stories change..."

I assert you need to study more. An investment of three hours would cure you.

You're aware how strangely you're behaving?

Non-belief in your god makes equates to strange behaviour? Some would say that is quite sane.

I asked upthread isn't it enough that people are happy and speculated that you thought it wasn't enough -- that you also want us to believe in your god. Am I correct?

"Weren't teh Gospels written decades after Jesus' death..."

There's no agreement. There is evidence to suggest much was written shortly after his death, partly from an original source that may have been contemporaneous with Him.

I find your attempts at sophism strange in a man as bright as you are. I'm patient enough to play your game. But game it is.

There's no agreement.

IOW, it is not certain that they were written first hand and in a timely manner after Jesus' death?

But maybe Jesus was a Very Smart Man, or even a Very Very Smart man? The smarter you make him the closer He becomes to who He said He was.

So does that mean the MENSA people are close to divine?

Scholarship backed up by archaeology.

And there's no reason to believe they wouldn't have implemented real places and events into the stories. That does not in any way mean they didn't embellish them a little bit.

Read the Killer Angels. History backs that story as true, does that mean the actual conversations between Longstreet and Lee actually happened as they're portrayed in the book?

It depends on what you make of the evidence, and this turns out to be very complex. Some scholars see material evidence for Mark written at least by 45 A.D.

But game it is.

I'm telling you what I believe. I ask questions (as 'when were the gospels written/') to learn more. That you see it as game playing shows a lack of tolerance in us atheists.

BTW, what of my question in #131?

"attempts at sophism..."

LOL, coming from someone who believes in this horse-shit.

Priceless.

Gawd is giving you a sign...

Well, JPW---What I hear you doing is condemning each generation to an obscurity of doubt, including your own.

Think about what you're saying, the paranoid system tou're erecting, which is that no human life or interaction can ever be definitely established as real.

Fact is, you're starting to sound like me. I'd worry.

I assert you need to study more. An investment of three hours would cure you.

Study away.

www.thebricktestament.com

On topic, this doesn't surprise me one bit. I used to read conservapedia for entertainment during slow times at work.

Go back to studying the scientific method, ZARATHUSTRA---When the Bible Thumpers catch you out on methodology it's time to question one's vocation.

"I'm telling you what I believe..."

I understand what you believe. You just affect a dishonest style about it. It detracts from your points.

jpw has a point. All it would take is one person to tell Mark (or whomever), "I saw Jesus walk on water" and BINGO! that dovetailed in so nicely with what they wanted this person to be, it became "fact".

We see it happen every day. The 'Whitey tapes'. The Obama birth certificate thing. The McCain crashed 5 planes thing.

Human nature was the same 2000 years ago as it is now, zed.

"JPW has a point..."

So do I. JPW is mulling it over. Let's hear from him.

Do you have an answer to my #131, zed? -- the last question?

What I hear you doing is condemning each generation to an obscurity of doubt, including your own.

How so? I hardly doubt anyone is going to lose faith over my views, particularly since I don't really discuss these sorts of things much outside of the DR.

Think about what you're saying, the paranoid system tou're erecting, which is that no human life or interaction can ever be definitely established as real.

Meh.

Fact is, you're starting to sound like me. I'd worry.

I'm not too worried. You're a smart guy.

And I wouldn't say I disbelieve the Bible. I just don't particularly believe it.

"Meh..."

Shouldn't be so bland about it. You've just destroyed history, paleontology, and archeology as legitmate fields of study.

So do I. JPW is mulling it over. Let's hear from him.

And yes I get your point.

If I apply my skepticism of the Bible to all historical records that makes them all unbelievable.

While that's true in the utmost extreme, I would say it's not there for me. Most historical records don't claim the fantastical things claimed in the Bible. I've never seen someone walk on water. I've never seen someone rise from the dead. I've never had a feast from a few fish and loaves of bread. I've never experienced something that I would attribute to an action of God.

You have (I'm guessing) and hence your faith in believing these fantastical claims.

I've seen some Baptists attempt pretty much the same vanishing trick with geology. You just refuse to accept Uniformitarianism because, after all, no one was there to see it.

"I've never seen anyone walk on water..."

You and I have never seen the bulk of things we both believe in. And I think concepts of fantasy veer into matters of personal taste.

zed, I presume from you avoidance of my question in #131, that it is not enough for you that I am content. I am content because I do things that I know are right in my heart. I help people, I don't fuck people over, I take care of my own, I am in general chartiable.

But for you, that is not enough. You think I should believe in the same god as you. I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, so I'll just say it: That is very selfish of you, zed. I don't think you need to believe like I do in order for your life to be complete. Why do you think I must believe as do you in order for my life to be complete?

Oh! Oh!

You should photoshop something "clever" and update your Encyclopedia Drammatica entry!!

It'll be a nice distraction from thinking of what you're gonna tell Mom next when she calls and asks why you haven't found a "nice girl" to go on a date with.

She wants grandkids and the trust-fund is drying up.

GOATMAN---I am pleased as punch you are content---I would not have that any other way. What I would like, since you persist in asking, is to see your content ass reside in Heaven.

Christianity is about being saved. It's a gift you are allowed to refuse.

It'll be a nice distraction from thinking of what you're gonna tell Mom next when she calls and asks why you haven't found a "nice girl" to go on a date with.

She wants grandkids and the trust-fund is drying up.

Ouch. I'm sure that stung.

Were you a frat boy?

Time for bed. GOATMAN---You top my prayer list. Expect a change in your life.

What I would like, since you persist in asking, is to see your content ass reside in Heaven.

Well, if there is a god and he is the all loving and benevolent being he is touted to be, I will be there. Surely he wouldn't condemn me to an eternity (can you even fathom "forever"? No one can) because I used the brain he gave me to come to the conclusions I did about his existence -- especially since I am a good and charitable person. I mean, that would be like sentencing someone to a lifetime of whips and tortures and racks for jaywalking. No, it would be worse than that because it would be forever.

If he would so condemn me, he is a pretty fucked up god and I don't want to be anywhere around such a fucked up entity.

I think Thomas Jefferson had it right:

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear."

You top my prayer list. Expect a change in your life.

You reckon god minds you presupposing him like that?

Ouch. I'm sure that stung.

Apparently it stung somebody.

Were you a frat boy?

I was.

And we incessantly picked on guys who played Dungeons & Dragons.

And poked the chicks you jerked off to on the "study floor".

Apparently it stung somebody.

Don't flatter yourself.

I was.

Figured. Your persona has a level of douchiness to it that only a frat boy could achieve.

And we incessantly picked on guys who played Dungeons & Dragons.

And poked the chicks you jerked off to on the "study floor".

LOL right.

I'm sure you were quite the ladies man jak.

Funny thing is most frat boys I unfortunately knew "poked" anything they could, usually the fat chicks who's self esteem was so low they'd actually fall for the bleached hair, armani exchange grease ball look so many others found disgusting.

Don't flatter yourself.

Don't give me a transparent reason to do so.

Your persona has a level of douchiness to it that only a frat boy could achieve.

I dunno, man.

We were an Ag frat at a west Texas school. And I'm fairly certain every member of my pledge class could properly conjugate the word "douche", if asked.

I'm sure you were quite the ladies man jak.

I did Ok.

Funny thing is most frat boys I unfortunately knew "poked" anything they could

Well, but the other funny thing is that most finger sniffers I knew whose social skills and self-imposed sense of alienation precluded them from participating in Greek life (or college life, for that matter) never really poked anything.

You know, you can still be a biology major without being a tool whose understanding of the college social experience is shaped entirely by "Revenge of the Nerds".

And I'm fairly certain every member of my pledge class could properly conjugate the word "douche", if asked.

Good for them. At least they got something out of college.

Well, but the other funny thing is that most finger sniffers I knew whose social skills and self-imposed sense of alienation precluded them from participating in Greek life (or college life, for that matter) never really poked anything.

Who says you have to be part of Greek life to be part of college life?

The frats were somewhat useful to me, they provided cheap parties with unlimited beer and a piece of shit house I could shit on without really giving a damn.

You know, you can still be a biology major without being a tool whose understanding of the college social experience is shaped entirely by "Revenge of the Nerds".

I don't think I've ever seen those movies.

Who says you have to be part of Greek life to be part of college life?

Nobody, as far as I know.

But you do have to be of a certain, predictable mindset to harbor the kind of resentment towards "frat boys" you introduced to the conversation.

The frats were somewhat useful to me, they provided cheap parties with unlimited beer and a piece of shit house I could shit on without really giving a damn.

And undoubtedly you were somewhat useful to frats, as you added to the head-count of a given party without being a contributing factor to the reduction of available pussy.

"Scholarship backed up by archaeology"

Bullshit. There's not a single piece of archaeology proving Moses existed, or his story of wondering 40 years in the desert. It's a fairy tale.

But you do have to be of a certain, predictable mindset to harbor the kind of resentment towards "frat boys" you introduced to the conversation.

Not resentment. It's more loathing. I don't think I've ever been exposed to a single group of people who as a whole have such a ridiculously over-inflated view of themselves and their contributions to the world.

Considering I had you pegged by your behavior on an anonymous blog, what does that say about you?

And undoubtedly you were somewhat useful to frats, as you added to the head-count of a given party without being a contributing factor to the reduction of available pussy.

Considering we often left early as they usually became sausage fests, you're not too far off the mark, although not entirely for the right reason.

Whoever would have guessed that Mao was a Moo-U fratboy?

being a contributing factor to the reduction of available pussy

How old are you?

It's hilarious that you still seem to measure others (yourself as well?) based on the amount of pussy they have or have had.

Frat boy to the bitter end I guess.

I don't think I've ever been exposed to a single group of people who as a whole have such a ridiculously over-inflated view of themselves and their contributions to the world.

You pegged Jak pretty quick, I'll give you that.

PS- Want to bet HE has a trust fund? Wouldn't surprise me given the level of acid in it. I bet his parents gave him shit for years to make a grandkid and a man of himself.

Not resentment. It's more self-loathing

FTFY

No surprise that Jacque is a frat boy. He's got that boorish coarseness and strutting juvenile machismo that is so admired among "Greeks". Some people outgrow that. Some don't.

Some don't, that's true.

Considering I had you pegged by your behavior on an anonymous blog, what does that say about you?

Except you didn't "peg" much of anything. You just defaulted to your insecurity about "frat boys" when my assessment of a dork similar to yourself hit a little too close to home and you injected yourself into the conversation.

Not resentment. It's more self-loathing

LOL

You're not high fiving your "bros" right now are you?

Well, but the other funny thing is that most finger sniffers I knew whose social skills and self-imposed sense of alienation precluded them from participating in Greek life (or college life, for that matter) never really poked anything.

LOFL! "Greek life"!..."poked"!

ROTFLMAO!

Except you didn't "peg" much of anything.

He had you as a frat boy.

Except you didn't "peg" much of anything. You just defaulted to your insecurity about "frat boys" when my assessment of a dork similar to yourself hit a little too close to home and you injected yourself into the conversation.

Keep telling yourself that.

It was actually the pathetic mixture of the attempted insult and the juvenile misunderstanding that only frat boys get women that only a frat boy would make that led me to believe you were a frat boy.

Again, considering I was right on the money, what does that say about you?

Some people outgrow that. Some don't.

Just like some people outgrow their juvenile tendency to make constant allusions to their marijuana use.

And some don't.

Whatever "pussy" Jak "poked" in his "Greek life" is sure to remember it with fondness....

So where's your entry, Jak?

Whatever "pussy" Jak "poked" in his "Greek life" is sure to remember it with fondness....

I'm sure all she remembers is waking up with a nasty hangover and a sore ass.

Hmm, frat boy to "interning on 3 continents" to a "masters degree"

And yet you spend most of your time drunk on a little known blog at 3 am, bragging about the pussy you once had and the postholes you made earlier in the day. Oh, and you're "middle class" somehow. Middle class with a ranch and a high paying job from a masters?

What went wrong, jak? Gambling problem? Alcoholism?

For all your superior posturing, you sound like a fucking loser who "could have been a contender".

"Just like some people outgrow their juvenile tendency to make constant allusions to their marijuana use."

Can't get any weed in Tardville, Greek boy?

What a sad spectacle. A man teetering on middle-age, depressed by fatherhood to a "pussy" and marriage to one, fondly remembering his "Greek life" as the apex of his existence.

No shit. If that's me at 35 I'm putting a gun in my mouth. What a miserable fuck that guy is.

It was actually the pathetic mixture of the attempted insult

Its not an "attempted" insult if your insecurity requires you to respond to it---especially when its not directed at you.

and the juvenile misunderstanding that only frat boys get women

Except nobody's suggesting that except you.

So essentially, we're re-living your social failures as a human being in what was supposed to be the happiest time of your life. You were/are a finger-sniffer that embraces a sense of alienation from well-adjusted people. You can't really articulate why "frat boys" bother you so much, you just know they were the target of derision among geeks like yourself as you sat in your dorm rooms on any given Saturday night and played 'World of Warcraft" while the world passed you by.

I bet Jacque was a cheerleader for the Fighting Grecians. Still have your pompoms, Jacque?

You have your wife's Facebook password?

See for yourself. :)

"what was supposed to be the happiest time of your life."

Evidently that was yours, which is palpable with every post of yours about "Greek life"

TRULY. FUCKING. PATHETIC. DAD.

Its not an "attempted" insult if your insecurity requires you to respond to it---especially when its not directed at you.

So you meant it as a pep talk? You were complimenting his lack of wife and family and his abilities to discuss this with his mother?

Please, it was an attempted insult and you failed. Epically.

Well, maybe not epically. The only thing worse you could have said was he still lived in his mother's basement.

Except nobody's suggesting that except you.

Uh huh. So all your derision towards me as a "dork" and "geek" (LOL I love it) and the associated lack of pussy by not being part of greek life actually meant something else?

Usually when people are in a hole, they stop digging.

Everything you say here is the opposite of reality, whereas I identified you from the get go.

Try again, this time try not to use all the frat douche cliches about "dorks" and "geeks."

As for my lack of articulation, re-read the conversation and think really really REALLY hard about it. The answer is quite obvious, I assure you.

You have your wife's Facebook password?

Ah. Those were the days. Back when you had the illusion of the possibility of "poking" something other than your current cow.

It's pretty revealing though, Mao. Your references to women as "pussy" you "poke", your adoration of "Greek life", your overcompensation and sexual innuendo about your sexual prowess, your eagerness to refer to others as faggots:

Total closet case, and the happiest days of your life were when you spent your time getting drunk and passing out with a bunch of boys....

LOL

Goodnight blog. My condolences, Jak.

So you meant it as a pep talk?

Exactly.

Please, it was an attempted insult and you failed.

No--I aroused a spark of insecurity within you that compelled you to respond.

It bothered you---and you can't seem to let it go.

That's obvious.

So all your derision towards me as a "dork" and "geek" (LOL I love it) and the associated lack of pussy by not being part of greek life actually meant something else?

Its simply recognizing a pattern of behavior exhibited by the kind of guy who asks an unsolicited question about the participation of another in the Greek system.

Socially successful people who weren't members of fraternities don't ask people out of the blue if they were "frat boys".

You're busted.

Usually when people are in a hole, they stop digging

So what's your excuse?

re-read the conversation and think really really REALLY hard about it. The answer is quite obvious, I assure you.

I know it is.

That's why you're still here.

Hours after it began. :)

Fuck. I completely missed boyd's nightly whine-fest.

Goodnight blog.

Just because a lot of people beleive something doesn't make it correct.

Christians cant even get their shit together on what they beleive.

Why are there so many different denominations of christianity out there? And they get down right NASTY attitudes between them.

As I read it, the 1st century church was one church there were no Catholics, Baptists, Seventh day Adventist, pentacostals etc......

Try to get these bitches on the same bus and you've got murder on your hands...

Christianity is it's own worst enemy and since it's been fused with Politics (Cons. Evangelicals matters have only got worse.

All of this "frat-boy" talk brings me back....

I was and am a 'frat-boy'. I met my now-wife early in my sophomore year and have been monogmous ever since.

Our house had a really hot groupie chick who loved to get hammered and loved going to 3rd base but was VERY reserved about the home-run. Kudos to her for that. I remember walking into the front-room after a night at the bar and she immediately turned her attention toward me. At the time I had a serious girlfriend (now my wife) so I politely shrugged off her attention. However, in retrospect, I should have copped a quick feel - she was SO fine and would have welcomed the attention at the moment and would have promptly forgotten about it the next day as she nursed her hangover.

Hindsight truly is 20/20.

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

Nuff Said, eh?

Seems to me the topic isn't the existence of God, but the fact that the so called evangelical, right wing, fundamentalist's don't really like the words attributed to Christ in the Bible, so they want to change the meanings therein to suit their political ideology.

Can you pretend to be Christian, yet not at least attempt to follow the teachings of Christ?

LOL

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Mat 25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Mat 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Mat 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me.

Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Gosh, Jesus was a commie, eh?

LOL

A Conservatized Bible?

ROFL!

Ah the answer to the ago old question.

WWRJD?

/Patriotboy FTW

Be Well.

Lectured? You are too stupid for words..keep believing your invisible bearded man in the sky bunky..

I am fascinated WHY people continually believe something concocted by man and perpetuated by man at spear point is supposedly sacred and not a power play. People like you are why there are scamsters like Madoff. Too gullible.

I am for understanding the past to understand the present and have some semblance of where we are going. Apparently the only thing the x-tians want is to die and go to the clouds wearing toga's all day worshiping at gods feet for eternity.

To end this bloviation on my part with some PT Barnum quotes..

"There's a sucker born every minute"

"Without promotion something terrible happens... Nothing!"

"Every crowd has a silver lining."

"It must be frustrating to try to teach those who already "know" everything. I wonder why such students even pretend to "learn" when the Bible tells them everything they need to know."

Not frustrating at all, Danni. Quite an interesting chat. There was no teaching--it was just a side conversation. And he's a marvelous young man--open, diligent, clever, well-read, a solid critical thinker, and a good writer. He knows something of my position on religion (as much as they can deduce), and has no difficulty with me as a result. Working with him is one of my great pleasures this school year.

OK, I get it---You worship P.T. Barnum.

I disagree with your analysis of history, LEGIO, because it is incorrect. You can be incorrect, at least at times?

The assumptions you create out of whole cloth on so many subjects, starting with Roman history, travelling through the history of the church, and ending with human psychology are staggering.

I believe in Christ because I am a thinking man. I'm far from alone.

"Surely He (God) wouldn't condemn me for eternity..."

That's right, GOATMAN---God is fair. In fact, He's supremely fair.

You don't beleive in God so you don't credit that. You should, and you should also stop having such an inflated idea of yourself.

That is, if you credit the concept of fairness.

"Apparently all the Christians want to do is die and go to the clouds..."

You can't make this stuff up. That's right, LEGIO---All I want to do is die. Excuse me, I'm going to scramble some eggs.

My, breakfast was great. Now, before I begin meditating on my death wish once again, I'll point out you guys bash Christians for never agreeing AND for being a lock-step force.

I'm positive there are plenty of those.

Video: Jeff Sharlet | The Daily Show | Comedy Central
Video: Jeff Sharlet on "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power"

AMY GOODMAN: What does he have to do with C Street?

JEFF SHARLET: The Family began as this domestic organization way back in the 1930s, a union-busting organization. But by the '50s, they

AMY GOODMAN: What do you mean, union-busting organization?

JEFF SHARLET: Oh, theyit's part of that invisible hand of the market. They believe that organized labor is ungodly, to put it mildly, perhaps Satanic. It began with this vision in 1935 that the New Deal and organized labor were literally a Satanic conspiracy they had to fight back.

In the 1950s, in the Cold War, they started moving overseas and identifying strongmen, dictators, who they thought were effective in the fight against communism, who they thought were effective in the fight for free markets. And Suharto was one of those men. You know, Suharto, whoeven the CIA, which helped him orchestrate his coup, later said it was one of the worst mass killings of the twentieth century.

The Family leaders called it a spiritual revolution and began sending delegations of congressmen, oil executives, over to meet with Suharto. They then hosted Suharto, actually, in the United States Senate for a Senate prayer breakfast with their members, to which they invited the then-Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird, then-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They have that kind of access. And they were able to arrange that kind of reach for Suharto. And they effectively became his most persuasive champions within the US Congress, as the United States funneled, as we know, just billions of dollars toward his military regime.

AMY GOODMAN: And Siad Barre of Somalia?

JEFF SHARLET: Yeah, dictator of Somalia. It's, to me, one of the scariest stories that I found in their archives. I was able to recreate this, because they dumped 600 boxes of papers in the Billy Graham archives. Siad Barre was anot a likely candidate for Christian right recruitment, called himself a Koranic Marxist. But in the early '80s, the Soviets had abandoned him. There had been a power shift between Somalia and Ethiopia. He was in the market for a new patron. And working through Senator Chuck Grassley, Republican of Iowa, of course still in office

AMY GOODMAN: Talk more about Chuck Grassley, who certainly is in the news now, who, together with Max Baucus, heads the Senate Finance Committee.

JEFF SHARLET: Yeah.

AMY GOODMAN: Baucus, Democrat; Grassley, Republican. Very powerful figure, especially around healthcare right now.

JEFF SHARLET: Indeed. And Grassley has been involved with the organization for quite some time, since the '80s, when he traveled to Somalia to join Barre, Siad Barre, in prayer to Jesus. And he brought with him a defense contractor named Bill Brehm.

And Barre was a kind of a cynical character, as you might expect for a dictator. He was very clear. He says, "I'm willing to pray to Jesus, and here's what I want in return." He says, "I want my defense budget doubled." He says, "I want meetings for my officials with the Reagan White House. And I want a sort of a hands-off policy while I crack down on some rebels." Doug Coe, the leader of the group, wrote back, in essence, "Done, done and done."

And when we look at history, so it was. And Barre used those weapons, supplied to him in part by the US, to wage a war of almost biblical proportion on his own people, from which Somalia has not recovered to this day. The Family doesn't consider that a failure; they consider that God's will for Somalia.

"The Family" is disturbing as all hell. Those cocksuckers would have us living in a theocracy if they had their way.

These conservapedia guys are clowns...

Conservapedia is the latest public manifestation of how the American fundamentalist Christian right "thinks". It is a wiki-based attempt to build a heavily biased and factually incorrect encyclopedia. Due to its bias, it ends up portraying liberals, atheists, and homosexuals (along with whoever the "bte noire du jour" is, like Muslims) as being evil[2] and anti-American.[3] Their attacks on these groups are fueled by traditionalism and jingoistic pro-Americanism. It has been called "The Watchtower of the Internet."[4]
The site was founded by Andrew Schlafly,[5] spawn of professional anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly,[6] in an attempt to offset what he perceived as an excessive liberal bias at Wikipedia.[5] Conservapedia's goal is to try to create a version of Wikipedia that has a conservative bias, especially when it comes to issues where politics and fundamentalist Christianity overlap, such as creationism, evolution, sexuality and morality[7].
Conservapedia has billed itself as "the most open-minded wiki on the Internet."[citation needed] It is, in fact, in the running for the most closed-minded site of any sort of the Internet. Evidence supporting their new claim has not been forthcoming, mostly because there isn't any.
No prominent conservative politician, writer or media personality (except perhaps Phyllis Schlafly on one of her podcasts) has ever aligned themself with, or recommended, Conservapedia. To do so would be to commit an act of career-suicide.

For more antics, refer to: Best of Conservapedia.

Here's one of my favorite bits, straight off the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad page: "His politics are mixed as best [LOL WHAT??], as he retains a strong, conservative view towards homosexuality, infamously stating that there are no homosexuals in Iran. However, he has also eliminated some rights such as freedom of speech and the press."

Try reading the word attributed to Christ, if you want to know the teachings the Christianity is based upon......and change them at your peril...eh? LOL

The old testament is the history of the Hebrews.....

The new testament includes words attributed to CHRIST, whom Christianity is based upon.

Understand?

There is no such thing as a Conservative Bible or a Liberal Bible... it's simply the Bible. The only other thing I'll say on this is these guys need to read Revelation 22:18-19

Sure.

Going back and forth with GoatShit is rather pointless.

Here is what he's going to do. You're going to make an argument and then goatshit is going to pick some tiny, obscure line in your post that really has no bearing on the debate and focus on that, all while ignoring the crux of your argument.

Basically, when goatshit get cornered, he changes his tune and focuses on something else. Save your time and energy.

No. He simply told me you were retarded.

I came up with the military handle all by my lonesome.

I denigrate you and your supposed service base on the fact you're a retard, and based on the fact that retards like you lost the war.

Yeah, I noticed you also denigrated Max Cleland on a recent thread, claiming he blew his own arm and legs off, which is a fkn LIE.

Denigrating war veterans based on politics makes you a BIG MAN, eh cherryboy?

Ever think about joining up?

Or just plan to use a military handle and denigrate others who have to make yourself feel macho?

Which time? The one claiming he was a cherry, or the one claiming that the van full of illegals smelled worse than Max's stumps on a hot July afternoon in Vietnam?

I'm not denigrating your supposed service based on politics retard. I just told you I do it because you're a retard, and quite frankly because you were supposedly an air farce remf claiming to have been something more.

You've only asked me about joining up at least 10x's now, and I've probably answered it 5x's, so apparently god's words to me were true...You are retarded.

We have not played "101 post your military records online" for quite sometime.

AND someone PRETENDING to be a vet, by using a military handle, while denigrating real war vets, makes you a major PUKE, eh?

Only think funnier, is you attempting to post anything of any substance whatsoever, but I've never seen you do that....eh?

LOL

And for the record, I worked with the mentally challenged for over 30 years. And I can declare that you do not have the ability of the least functioning of them to reason anything.....

Hate is your calling card, along with denigrating other's service, while PRETENDING you served, eh?

You are retarded - from growing outside of the pseudo-military mindset, from evolving beyond kill or be killed, and from communicating any desire for peace.

The Vietnam war was lost long before you ever realized it, because you are retarded in your thinking.

Fallujah - The Hidden Massacre 27'05
The first minutes include "secret" footage of bombs dropped in Vietnam. The music was what the pilots were listening to. It reminds me exactly of United States military invading Iraq.

You have been played and are now damaged, possibly beyond repair as you cloak yourself in further retardation from the truth. Facts are facts and it shouldn't require anyone like John Kerry to expose them for all to know. You pro-war people are lying to yourselves, to your own conscience.

That was for the self-righteous, so if you consider yourself of that persuasion..:]

Sir, you are a hero for standing against any war.

From what I understand Hitler was such an expedient conquerer because he had backers in the very nations he was fighting with, like Prescott Bush. Traitors, if you will.

Here's an interesting explanation of Prescott's involvement and the more current repercussions:
How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

.. The two Holocaust survivors suing the US government and the Bush family for a total of $40bn in compensation claim both materially benefited from Auschwitz slave labour during the second world war.

Kurt Julius Goldstein, 87, and Peter Gingold, 85, began a class action in America in 2001, but the case was thrown out by Judge Rosemary Collier on the grounds that the government cannot be held liable under the principle of "state sovereignty".

Jan Lissmann, one of the lawyers for the survivors, said: "President Bush withdrew President Bill Clinton's signature from the treaty [that founded the court] not only to protect Americans, but also to protect himself and his family."

Lissmann argues that genocide-related cases are covered by international law, which does hold governments accountable for their actions. He claims the ruling was invalid as no hearing took place.

In their claims, Mr Goldstein and Mr Gingold, honorary chairman of the League of Anti-fascists, suggest the Americans were aware of what was happening at Auschwitz and should have bombed the camp.

The lawyers also filed a motion in The Hague asking for an opinion on whether state sovereignty is a valid reason for refusing to hear their case. A ruling is expected within a month.

The petition to The Hague states: "From April 1944 on, the American Air Force could have destroyed the camp with air raids, as well as the railway bridges and railway lines from Hungary to Auschwitz. The murder of about 400,000 Hungarian Holocaust victims could have been prevented."

The case is built around a January 22 1944 executive order signed by President Franklin Roosevelt calling on the government to take all measures to rescue the European Jews. The lawyers claim the order was ignored because of pressure brought by a group of big American companies, including BBH, where Prescott Bush was a director.

Lissmann said: "If we have a positive ruling from the court it will cause [president] Bush huge problems and make him personally liable to pay compensation."

The US government and the Bush family deny all the claims against them. ..

I'm hip to the long "legacy" of bush family war profiteers. A couple of them, including Neil, are also cleaning up on NCLB, selling the tests, LOL.

Making profits from their govt. "service" is what they do best, apparently, then both showed they couldn't govern worth a shit.

"read my lips, no new taxes" eh?

LOL

What has been interesting for me is how war vets who return to dissent the wars they fought, become "strangers in a strange land".

A segment of the left considers you a baby killer, and most of the right only honor war veterans based on politics, I've found.

Guess that makes me truly and independent, and I have no problem with that.

The fact that civilians were the targets makes any military presence not only suspect, but immoral and highly damaging to our national identity.

The fact that our own government perpetually lied and covered-up those purposeful civilian murders makes it even harder to reconcile.

I'm not going to armchair quarterback, but that's the obvious nature of the damages you did cause. Left or right isn't the issue - right or wrong entirely is.

If you are truly wracked over this, then you don't need anyone else forgiveness.

Yes, thanks CalifChris for maintaining that ever-expanding list. It's neat to know that so many people here contribute real-world military experience.

How do people in the military reconcile having a duty to possibly kill an enemy and also maintain their relationship with God? No disrespect intended, but that must prove exhausting.

Know the difference between a war vet and just a vet who has served?

I kinda doubt ALL those DR posters served in a war zone, but I could be mistaken.

Not that their service isn't honored by me, but since the point was whether people can actually understand what's it's like to be under fire and in harm's way every day for a period of time, it makes a difference to the discussion of understanding what current war vets who are returning might be experiencing. Dig?

I guess I can figure it out by dos.

Unlike the last drunken frat boy, who was placed in reserves above 500 qualified applicants by his daddy, was apparently saved from aWol charges when he didn't keep his pilot's license (part of his pledge when he joined) nor complete any service in Ala, and then had the damaging reports/files removed, again by his daddy, eh?

Interesting how only 5% of Americans actually ever serve in the military and there are so many of them DR posters.

Just sayin'

Sorry for these "off topic" posts, however, apparently that is no big deal here on DR.

Now, how many of the vet list honor war vets, do so for their service, regardless of their politics??

????

You clearly posted that Cleland blew his own legs off and that makes you just another LIAR, want me to find it for you and repost it?

Seriously, how frigging stupid are you? Where did I deny posting that?

I posted about Cleland twice. One time I said that a van full of illegals must have smelled as bad as Cleland's stumps on a hot vietnam afternoon. The other time I said he was a cherry and that it resulted in him losing his limbs. Nothing I stated above distances me from either of those comments. I'm proud of both of them. Unlike Cleland, I'm jumping for joy.

So clearly you're the retard. As if that's a surprise to anyone.

Now be sure to ignore the correction, retard.

And you CLAIM to be a veteran?

A veteran who DENIGRATES another vet, Cleland, who paid one of the ultimate sacrifices?

I'm guessing you would have been like the cherryboy/newbie, who dropped the grenade while jumping out of the chopper, that blew Cleland's arm and legs off.

I saw a few of them who didnt' survive their own bullshit, much like you.

Honoring vets only based on POLITICS makes you a puke, whether you served or not, mf.

#270 | Posted by woke at 2009-10-08 09:48 AM | Reply

How prophetic...

I guess conservatives are mistaking the bible's lessons on equality and concern for your fellow man for being liberal.

go figure

The movement seeks to change the following passage:

"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:24).

They want to replace "rich man" with a term meaning "miserliness to the point of laziness and being unproductive." Ex. "lazy miser"

See conservapedia.com

The "eye of a needle" is an idiom for a location with a low hanging obstruction that would force someone to bend low to pass through. In order to get a camel through the eye of a needle, its owner would be required to force the camel onto its knees and drag it through the low opening. Camels are notoriously stubborn and getting them onto their knees is particularly difficult. Thus, the implication - understood to all readers of the near east with familiarity with Camels - is that a rich man, that is, a man of wealth and power, will not easily get on his knees and submit before God. The choice of "lazy miser" is simply incomprehensible in this context.

But set aside the historical and semantic inaccuracy of this conceptual choice for a moment.

Consider instead the implcations of the choice of "miser" or "miserly" here. Why this word choice? Why do cheapskates have a hard time getting into heaven? If I carefully save every penny earned, does this mean I can't get into the kingdom of God? Or is there another reason the conservatives want to ban "misers" from the kingdom of heaven? Are there any gross stereotypes at work here?

"All of this "frat-boy" talk brings me back....

#277 | Posted by beebolbax

The problem isn't with "rich man" Beebolbax. (The NT is full of references to rich men and their problems getting into heaven.) It is with the camel. The original in Aramaic was "gamla", which can be translated as camel, but also means a thick rope, such as was used to tie up camels. In this context the saying should have been,

"It is easier for a thick rope to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew was originally written in Hebrew or an Aramaic script. The Greek translator may have messed up a bit, but it was a memorable and popular mistake.

Who gives a fuck?

I mean, the opposite of love is indifference.

No it's not. Hate is the opposite of love. Indifference is kind of in between the two.

Gosh, officers who disrespected and denigrated the enlisted found out what happens to such arrogant pukes in war zones....

Oh, I forgot, you were never in a war zone, and this is your chance to prove your moxy.

See, even though I've told him I don't play dat, he's trying to get me to
come to "attention" and "salute" him....

Hate is the opposite of love. Indifference is kind of in between the two.

Interesting.

So, when two people divorce, do they continue to antagonize (hate) each other the rest of their lives?

Or

Do they go their own ways and ignore each other?

??

So, when two people divorce, do they continue to antagonize (hate) each other the rest of their lives?

I don't know. I've never been divorced. I would think it would depend on the nature of their divorce.

"So, when two people divorce, do they continue to antagonize (hate) each other the rest of their lives?"

No.

My ex and I continue to be parents.

Excellent point ZAT

A third option.

Have a continued platonic relationship while not hating each other for the sake of the kid(s).......

But, in a sense, they would probably have to be "indifferent" to each other romantically, intimately, sexually, tho.....to have a platonic relationship....

LOL

Probably continue to hate, antagonize, ignore, love -- everything emotion they probably had for each other when they were married.

everything = every
