"I can't pray in a public setting if I choose to because that would offend someone."
Offense is in the eye of the beholder. Well, sort of. You can pray wherever you want. You have a right. Won't bother me.
"My child can not pray aloud in school before his lunch because it would offend someone."
I would allow any child who wants to pray to do so. I would take to task any adult who wants to lead a child in prayer in a school setting. The two are different.
But hey, where is the line? Why are your beliefs more valuable than someone else's? Or are they? I mean, is it okay by you for someone to pray to Allah in school? What about to Satan? One challenge of a pluralistic society is just this--more people who can be offended.
"People want to take the word God off of money, out of our nations songs....because not everyone is a believer and they find that it shoves someones beliefs down their throats."
Doesn't it? I don't give a shit about the money thing, but I don't want my kid being made to sing Christian (or other religious) stuff in schools. That's mostly not an issue, eh? And I don't really want him to have to say the pledge. My wife feels differently about the pledge, so my take is that he is allowed to do what works for him. And at five years old, he'll most likely do what others are doing.
"Christians are expected to keep their faith to themselves. In our society....."
Really? Says who? You believers can believe what you want, by right, till you try to force it on someone else.
And to shift it around on you, some people expect homosexuals to keep their values and beliefs to themselves. Or liberals. : )
"But someone can put up a BILLBOARD that thousands of people see promoting no beliefs, wanting people to not have spirituality, a belief in God????
What a bunch of hypocrites!!!"
I don't get the anger. Is your faith challenged by this? I see pro-Christian billboards around. There was a huge one on Long Island: JESUS IS LORD. I just chuckle. I sorta feel like if you have faith, why do you have to advertise it? Have it; own it; make it yours.
Check out the organization's stated reasons. Then when you feel you can, I hope you'll get back to me on the teaching/school questions.
"By then I hope to have calmed down." I hope you have. : )
