a close friend of mine worked the census in 2000, and he went to all these places where the situation could have been dangerous. ok, i'll say it... ghettos. he was in places, interviewing people that had thugs on the street looking to jack his car, and because he made it clear that the census is about helping people get the resources their neighborhood might need budget-wise (like streetlights, for starters) they left him alone. he was cool with these gangstas and thugs because he wasn't the police, and because the census threatens no one.
