"But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause."

That is hate/fear rhetoric?

Really?

Pelosi said Thursday that while she values free speech, a careful line must be tread between the First Amendment Right and regard for public safety.

"Our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe," she added. "But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause."

Anyone else having Deja Vu of Bush administration's Americans "need to watch what they say, watch what they do?"

Silver,
Ever hear of context? That statement alone is harmless, but combined with:

"I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco...Our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe, But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause."

-AND-

Pelosi did not offer examples of rhetoric today that could lead to violence but the House rebuked South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson for shouting "You lie!" at Obama last week.

..tells me this is pointless rhetoric that is not based in reality.

Not me. I think that she actually sounded genuine. She's a regular POS in mho, but I believed her on this point.

Hag,
I don't. I have seen nothing that would lead her to infer what she said. She is once again distracting from the issue and, rather than proving her case, is attacking those she opposes with rhetoric that will bring about an emotional response.

That woman is so ugly. Everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie. She doesn't have the truth in her.

She was asked the question at a news conference about growing concers of violence due to all the harsh rhetoric, and responded quite naturally out of her own experience in the late 70's where this kind of rhetoric lead to lethal action.... hardly similar to the Rovian planned Bush propaganda.

Because you read bani's baking soda cancer cure thread yesterday?

What Pelosi does, and brilliantly I might add, is turn the subject from defending her position to making those who oppose her defend themselves.

"She was asked the question at a news conference about growing concers of violence due to all the harsh rhetoric,..."

That's not really her big concern, she's as guilty as anyone of harsh rhetoric. Her BIG concern is that she might lose that title she carries.

Possibly the effect, K. But I agree with H that that she was being genuine in her response.

The cynicism we thrive on around here is fun, but not always the motivating factor for everyone else.

I stopped about 12 years ago when I quit smoking because my metabolism changed and I wanted to slice people up after one cup.

I don't know about baking soda, but the list of 13 things in the article was great.

Corky,
I think if anyone else had said it, then the concern would have come across, but Pelosi really does not have the credibility to make such statements and not have them be political.

Especially after already calling people who oppose her Nazis and Racists, to follow with Homophobes is too much.

- but Pelosi really does not have the credibility to make such statements

That sounds like the opinion of someone who doesn't like her to begin with.

A more objective observation is that she was being genuine in her response to the question; that it was not a contrived response.

It is. I cannot help it other than not to deny it.

"I stopped about 12 years ago when I quit smoking because my metabolism changed and I wanted to slice people up after one cup."

Well then, I'm glad you stopped, psycho.

A more objective observation is that she was being genuine in her response

However, neither you nor I are objective in this regard, so we honestly cannot say what an objective person would take away.

"It is. I cannot help it other than not to deny it."

Seen Milk yet, K?

Nope. I avoid sad movies.

Yep. It's much calmer just to (in best Hannibal Lector voice)- ssstuff their pantiessss down their throatsss and feed them to the gatorsssssss.

However, neither you nor I are objective in this regard, so we honestly cannot say what an objective person would take away.

then let me. I don't like her, but I found her to be genuine in her statement. Whether it was over the top is a matter that only time will have a decision in.

- neither you nor I are objective in this regard

I have no strong feeling about her one way or the other. She has been adequate, as far as I can tell, but I'm no big fan of hers.

I avoid sad movies.

It's not all sad. You should see it. I thought it was the best movie of all last year. Better than Slumdog at least. Might give you a bit of perspective as to where Pelosi is coming from.

Yeas are 1 and Nays are 2

The Nays have it.

I have strong feelings on Pelosi and you have them in regards to the Healthcare debate is what I meant.

The Nays have it.

Its just a friendly discussion (so far). I still respect you and Hag even though we disagree on what her motives for saying this are.

That woman is so ugly. Everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie. She doesn't have the truth in her.

"But you're a troll and cannot be taken seriously in any debate."

That's what the auto-reply message says whenever I email the speaker, coincidentally.

Really Hag,
I get "once more and we are calling the cops."

I got "fuck you fence-sitter." Does Obama read the Retort?

Pelosi and motives...never know but one can be sure she is focussed on someone who is not doing what she wants and threwout that scud as a political warning.

"I got "fuck you fence-sitter." Does Obama read the Retort?"

No. I ghost wrote that one for him.

I get "once more and we are calling the cops."

oh, not again ~ I said I love GW to them 2 Sundays ago (& I can now sleep on my left side as of last nite!)

"Does Obama read the Retort?"

I'm sure that at least one or two posters provide updates. In other words... its been nice knowing you.

FF for Null and Hag

I didn't know I was talking about Nulli. He definitely wasn't on my short list. Way at the bottom of my long list, with Fredo/8roper and 101.
