Tips for cultivating marijuana. Testimonials by patients about its medical benefits. Cannabis cooking lessons. Even citations for award-winning strains of pot. Viewers here can now watch, every week, what amounts to a pro-weed news program.

Booted off one skittish TV station but quickly picked up by another, the low-budget "Cannabis Planet" show is televised evidence of how entrenched marijuana has become in California's cultural firmament and a potent example of the way the pot subculture has been edging into the national mainstream.

"We're trying to show the legitimacy of this plant," said Brad Lane, the executive producer of the half-hour program.

Mr. Lane pays for the twice-weekly air time on the independent station KJLA Thursday and Saturday nights at 11:30, sandwiched between "Bikini Beach" and "Jewelry Central" and says he is now breaking even, almost two months after the show's premiere. "Cannabis Planet" focuses on medical, agricultural and industrial uses of the hemp plant, purposely ignoring marijuana's recreational aspects. Viewers, for instance, see very little actual smoking, even though the hosts and producers are known to inhale between takes. "We're walking on eggshells here, to be honest," Mr. Lane said.

This is important news. Not like that ACORN stuff.

Legalize

Smoke it if ya got it.

"Smoke it if ya got it."

And grow it if you don't.

Dude I have no idea what's going on.

This is good news - I like it.

But important? No there are more important issues than getting high.

Kanye West showed up at Patrick Swayze's funeral and made quite a scene when he loudly proclaimed Michael Jackson had a better funeral.

Weeds started out as the best script & cast since the Sopranos but seems to be going stale.

Timex--funny! Sick, but funny.

Nutcase, they shoulda put some apple peels in the bag o' scripts before they put 'em in the freezer?

"But important? No there are more important issues than getting high."

Like what?

TV starting going to pot about 50 years ago.

So TV is going from a "Vast Wasteland" to a vast wasted land.

Legalized within 10 years, I guarantee it.

Sniper, are you serious? Fifty years ago? What the hell was even on in 1959?

Oh, but that's right, you seem to think we should all live in the 1950s in general.

What the hell was even on in 1959?

Outer Limits
Gunsmoke
Dragnet
Jack Benny
Burns and Allen
Fred Allen
Bonanza
Twilight Zone
I Love Lucy
Honeymooners

Probably take that long for the rest of the sane part of the country to catch up with California.

Of course, not all parts of California have caught up with California. Take Murphy's storm-trooper friendly San Diego...please!

Good night Chet.
Good night David.

Thanks, Kanrei. Those are mostly pretty good shows. But to say TV went to pot after that assumes that all the other shows were also good and that nothing good came after. Which is just plain silly. Unless of course one's values assert that the 1950s was the last great decade and that we don't want shows where the morals are more than black and white. (Well, Outer Limits and Twilight Zone did some challenging stuff around shades of gray, but...)

Wait, what?

But important? There are no more important issues than getting high.

Null,
In Joes' defense, he was stoned and he missed it.

Maybe Joe was smoking that bud he ripped off a few weeks ago.

They had lots of wrestling, test patterns, and they played the national anthem before they signed off every night. It was black and white then. I thought you would like to know that. It always has been a great waste land.

So negative, Sniper. You really see _no_ value in TV? Wow. I'm glad your mind is open.

I certainly see value in tv, but I don't believe that value is matched by the prices cable companies charge to see it. The $50 per month was fine, but paying up to like $125 per month is insulting considering the quality.

prag, you are truly a product of modern TV.

Of all the channels that are out there, there are less than 12 worth even watching. Of the 13, most of them replay their programs so much they look like there are on an endless loop.

"Legalized within 10 years, I guarantee it."

Oh how I wish this were true. But, I've been hearing / dreaming the same thing for over twenty years now.
I don't see any advantage for the powers that be to pursue legalization. Too many people are making money from the pot busts.
Once it is legal, we'll all be growing it in our front yards and there will be no taxation, fines, etc to generate money for the courts, lawyers, gov't etc.

Just my opinion.

HLay,
I was stoned when I wrote that =D

Joe slunk away to take another snap and lament his paralegal status.

Wait...I was gonna post...

How do you know what I am a product of? All I asked was if you find nothing of value on TV. I am a student of media and a teacher of media. I am as cynical as I am open.

"Of all the channels that are out there, there are less than 12 worth even watching. Of the 13, most of them replay their programs so much they look like there are on an endless loop."

You see, I wouldn't know. I get two channels (well, five, since public television is now four, with the digital changeover), and I read about and hear about other stuff that might be interesting, and check 'em out via Netflix. I also don't go by what _channels_ are worth watching; I think and talk about and explore what _shows_ are worth watching. Yep, there's a lot chaff; there's also some wheat. But hey, visual storytelling is not for everyone. If you think it's all shit, fine. In my assessment, that makes you seem a negative person.

TV is like any media. Has some good stuff and lots of junk. The idea is to find the good stuff - or at least stuff that appeals to the person. Merely writing it off as a waste is only indicative of a lazy and noncurious mind.

Actually, no. Psychotic, head-severing, Mexican cartels and dangerous U.S.-based street gangs grow rich off of illegal marijuana trade. Meanwhile, our government continually violates citizens' fundamental rights by jailing and/or fining people who choose to make use of and/or cultivate the plant. We waste huge amounts of law-enforcement dollars, prison dollars, and lose out on tax dollars with these dumbass, childish policies. Cali is bankrupt because they have so many gangsters in prison. People are dying on both sides of the border. It may be too late to fix the robust prison gang culture spawned by the nonsensical, poor policies of the drug war. So, no, there isn't any more important news out there, half-wit. Get a goddamn clue.

Even Fox news is going to pot:

Oh man, I actually agree with you on something...

You know that's gotta hurt!!!

;~}

I really do hate comercial television...

But, when you're baked, it's all good; hell when I'm all static headed I can watch re-runs of Sally Jesse Rapheal or even Montel Williams. But, Perry Mason is the best for wake and bake mornings...

Images and dial-tone...

I've never been that high.

I like to watch bill moyers high.

I hate to watch things that matter when I'm baked; makes me paranoid and anxious. I like fluffy stupid shit when I'm stoned. I leave the heavier stuff for when I can actually absorb it...

That is my new favorite show, I got all three seasons from a friend and watch them back to back for like three days straight, and yes, I was totally baked. Which is nice, because now I can watch the whole series again and it will be all new to me...

You never follow through with anything you've posted. Why don't you explain this statement? You obviously have no information to provide - granted, I am asking the most vacant of trolls..

Golly, I wonder how much revenue recreational pot could generate? Perhaps industrial and medicinal uses might be profitable too? Maybe that would be "good" for a failing economy? Uh, DUNNO.

You are clearly a worthless poster and a vacuous mind. I really wish that weren't the case, but obviously it isn't.

" But, Perry Mason is the best for wake and bake mornings..."

Discover DVD's.

"You are clearly a worthless poster and a vacuous mind."

Ah, la luz!

they had over 20 individual westerns running a week on 3 channels in 3.5 hr a night.

Seems a bit much to me.

Yes, Dexter fucking RAWKS.

Luff that show.

Books are good too.
