Kanye's a showboat and prick in public situations like this, not the first time he's done it, won't be the last. I thought it was really lame and uncalled for, the same tired act, this time at Taylor's expense.
However...he's far from untalented, as some here state and others suggest. He's one of the most talented and successful producers of all time, and he's released at least one, if not two, classic albums. You may not like or understand the genre(s) he operates in, but millions of others do.
Which, for those of us who do like his music, and have seen him grow as an artist, makes it that much harder to reconcile the man on the records and stages with the man in real life. Although, I do try to separate the art from the artist.
Off the public stage, I'll say that back in the day, before he blew up as an artist, he was a very serious (about his music and his expectations from studio staff, gear, etc.), and relatively laid back dude, albeit with some creeping inner hostility/insecurity. I hope he can figure his shit out.
Then again, as he wrote: "I'm trying to right my wrongs/but it's funny them same wrongs helped me write this song."
Beyonce, on the other hand, has matured into pure gold. That was a total class move last night on her part.

Great post - very real. The most "talented" people that I've ever met tend to have a bit of a split in their personality - and that can often make them socially awkward - even unacceptably crude.
I LOVED Kanyes outburst during the Katrina Relief. It was REAL. At that moment more people were paying attention to that man than ever before - and this was nothing about rap, infidelity, lifestyle, weapons, international affairs or anything other than what he witnessed as the unequal treatment of African Americans during a disaster and national crisis.
Jumping up in the midst of someones awards ceremony isn't new, and Taylor has an amazing story witnessed by millions that has elevated her name even into my household - I'd never heard of her, or any of her songs. Kanye has once again set attention upon what he sees as injustice. I like this guy, prick and all. He means well - perhaps he should produce a Taylor Swift & Harry Connick Jr track for a New Orleans commemorative CD?
