Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Annie Lowrey, Michael Wilkerson; Foreign Policy Magazine----As the U.S. Congress holds its first serious health-care reform debate since the Clinton era, the resulting public furor has featured increasingly overheated claims about everything from so-called "death panels" to the supposed prowess of America's homegrown medicine. Many of the most wildly inaccurate statements have been directed abroad -- sometimes at the United States' closest allies, such as Britain and Canada, and often at the best health-care systems in the world.

Each lie is sourced and debunked within the article, and for those seeking to singularly blame the right, Number 3 was propagated by Howard Dean. True-facts don't seem to matter when the hyperbole of fear-inducing lies sell so much easier in the public-square, where ignorant (meaning uninformed, not "stupid")citizens go for their education.

The bottom line remains what is the chief goal of every private-run company in a free market economy? To make money.

What is the goal of the US government as stated within our founding documents? To ensure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness while providing for our common defense.

Which one of these two is closer to likely facilitating the improvement of the physical and mental health of the populace, our elected politicians and our governmental institutions or the megalithic corporations beholden to profits and shareholders?

It really is that simple at the core. We need both working in concert with the other, but each on its own is disfunctional by nature because their goals oppose each other by definition.

Good post, Roma.

"5. The lie: The United States has the best health care in the world.... "

So you think that is a lie? Never thought I would say this seriously, tony, but "Love it or leave it you pinko creep."

Tony is getting all wee-weed up like his dark overlord master.

Tony posts refutations of the Big Lies used to create the Bigger Lie and the best Crockafish can come up with is a racialist poison dart? Pathetic.

The same which will insure more power is taken from the people, and done so under the guise of "care for the people."

Profit = Evil
Tyrannical Government = Good

If you can convince the people you care for them while taking away their freedom, you're on your way to becoming a tyrant. Stupid people will always scapegoat profit. In the end, stupid people get what they deserve!

So, what prize did you win?

"Stupid people will always scapegoat profit..."

Stupid people will always see thieves as heroes, also.

I'm motivated to put a finer point on this---Anyone care to argue insurance companies don't engage in financiopathy on a massive scale?

Good eye, TR.

Nice to see you posting.

6. the lie: 40 million people need health insurance and CANNOT GET IT.

- only 10-12 % of those 40 million are uninsured because they cannot afford it. The other 88-90 % pf that 40 million are recently post-college and have opted not to use health insurance at this stage in their lives, also in this 90% there are people eligable for public funded private health insurance who have not taken advatage of the option.
Source: US Census

7 the lie: Creating a public option will in no way affect people's ability to keep their private option, if they want to.

- faced with the heavy new tax burden required to support the public system, private companies will defray the tax burden by dropping their sponsorship of private insurance for their employees, and telling the employees, to "go sign up for the public option that we are paying for in new taxes"

Tony Roma is a pathetic Obama sheep that spews, like so much vile vomit, the filthy lies he is force fed by his false prophet from Kenya.

"Filthy lies...."

Much of the impetus for a public option would be blunted IF ONLY insurance companies were prevented from NOT PROVIDING coverage for a new health condition AFTER YOU'VE BEEN PAYING PREMIUMS FOR YEARS.

Almost everyone has been hit by this, or has a loved one who has been hit by this, and several stories concerning it have been posted on this very forum.

So, if you're interested in stopping "filthy lies", why aren't you interested in stopping all of them?

8Doper would have to have his "I Heart the Status Quo" tattoo removed from his butt cheek if he posted otherwise.

Oh I don't know. I recently received a bill from the hospital for a balance my insurance wouldn't cover. They paid 80% of the bill, however, until my yearly deductible is met.

When I looked at the itemization submitted by the hospital to my isurance company, I find a $400 charge for a tetanus shot, $200 for an application of Bacitracin oinment, $300 for swabbing a scrape with gauze and peroxide...etc. All in all, the total bill submitted to the insurance company by the hospital was $3,400.00, and the evil financiopathic insurance company paid the bulk of it.

Where did doctors and hospitals learn to charge so much for what a veterinrian could do for a few hundred dollars to your pet dog? Hmmmmm, can anyone say "Medicare corruption" or how about "Medicaid Corruption"?

Many thanks to that wonderfully altruistic institution called the Federal Govt. They care so much! They love us so much! They insert themselves into the freemarket cuz they are looking out for our best interest....

And they F' up everything in the process...to the point that we don't know what the true cost of healthcare is.

Hey, but they care....and have duped stupid stooges like DR turds to believe it's the evil fianciopathic insurance companies which are to blame.

GO FIGURE!

Outrageous!!! I'm furious!!!!

Obama and Pelosi's plan to funnel all funding of health insurance through their greedy paws is far and away NOT the sollution to the problem you speak of - a little better oversite and regulation of private ins is what's needed - (I will actually go that far, which is far.)
We do not need to go Saul Alinsky on the American health care system.

Corky continues to illustrate his man crush on me by speaking about my butt cheeks.
Corky- the status quo is just fine for a MAJORITY of Americans - and we happen to live in a democracy. Sorry if this dissappoints you

example of this assertion please??

be specific.

Almost everyone has been hit by this, or has a loved one who has been hit by this, and several stories concerning it have been posted on this very forum.

not me.

not once.

educate me please. and don't post a link illustrating people you don't know.

If this is such a common occurence then, without the help of links, tell me the stories.

"Hospitals in border cities, including Detroit, are forging lucrative arrangements with Canadian health agencies to provide care not widely available across the border."

Oh no Eberly it's true everyone in the USA is dying and cannot get a doctor's care.

didn't you get them memo???

YOU have major healthcare problems too, Eberly. I know because the Dark One told me so.

If you can convince the people you care for them while taking away their freedom, you're on your way to becoming a tyrant. Stupid people will always scapegoat profit. In the end, stupid people get what they deserve!

Indeed, which is what will happen when the boomers start retiring en masse and our system becomes overloaded. What will you be saying then?

Where did doctors and hospitals learn to charge so much for what a veterinrian could do for a few hundred dollars to your pet dog? Hmmmmm, can anyone say "Medicare corruption" or how about "Medicaid Corruption"?

Yes, medical care is WAY overpriced. However, I don't think it's due to the causes you list. Much of it is due to people not paying their bills, which in turn passes the buck to those of us with insurance who do pay.

Hey, but they care....and have duped stupid stooges like DR turds to believe it's the evil fianciopathic insurance companies which are to blame.

You don't think the current model with insurance companies holding the strings of power is in need of fixing?

Also, 8roper, do you have any ACTUAL objections to the plan currently under consideration that aren't based on a pure knee jerk idealogical basis? Any specific criticisms or things you'd want to be different?

Also, 8roper, do you have any ACTUAL objections to the plan currently under consideration that aren't based on a pure knee jerk idealogical basis? Any specific criticisms or things you'd want to be different?

you KNOW that most cons have a problem with the government running, increasing, and putting their hands on the cashflow - but you want to dismiss that as KNEE jerk and ask a con to specifically object to a specific provision in the government health plan.

duh

it doesn't matter what they SAY they want to do in the bill.

it matters that they think they can take it over, increases taxes, and it bothers me that they think they will accomplish what it says in the bill

Sooo, no matter what the legislation says, it won't work anyway?

At least that's honest. Most of these Rethugs pretend they care what it says.

i dont't need to know the details

the details are what they want to occupy your mind with...

make you think that, as a citizen, you have lots of issues to consider....hmmmm what parts of the proposed system do i like/ or not like .....

you are missing the forest thru the trees.

the governemt can't sustain a system for all Americans

no country can do it in a decent way -

not in a way that is as good as the current private system - shortcomings and all.

look at medicare - the govt cannot properly sustain a system for the over 65s - it can do it for the whole population? effectively?

in a way where NOBODY ever feels like they are getting the shaft?

bat.

shit.

crazy.

The greatest financial burden on health care is FEDERAL regulations that accomplish nothing.

I've posted details on this more times than I can count, so no, I'm not going to do it again.

Suffice it to say that the government has created the financial crisis, and now the same government promises to fix it?

Perfect example:

"Where did doctors and hospitals learn to charge so much for what a veterinrian could do for a few hundred dollars to your pet dog? "

In my years as a medical writer I have spent many, many hours in surgery. The procedure on a human is essentially the same as on a dog.

A total hip on a dog is $3000
A total hip on a human is $45,000

The difference is regulations that accomplish nothing, and the risk of getting sued by some slime ball like John Edwards

.......so Diablo only appreciates free speech when it agrees with him.......

......so if someone recognizes that the US is not NUMBER 1! in any endeavour (healthcare included) they should leave the country ??.......

......why not try to IMPROVE in a field that we are not the best in ??.....

......self-deluding ourselves into believing that we are the BEST IN EVERYTHING is stupid.....we should recognize our weaknesses and work to improve them.....but without honest self-criticism, improvement can never happen.....
