Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, August 20, 2009

In 2004 the CIA used private security contractor Blackwater USA (now Xe Services) as part of a secret program to locate and assassinate Al Qaeda operatives, say current and former government officials. Although the CIA spent several million dollars on the program, no terrorist suspects were either captured or killed. This use of Blackwater employees was a major reason current CIA director Leon Panetta called an emergency meeting in June to inform Congress the agency withheld details of the program for seven years. Erik Prince, Blackwater's founder, was recently accused by former employees of murdering one or more people who planned to provide information to federal authorities about criminal conduct by his company and its operatives in Iraq.

duh?

Shouldn't this headline read " CIA did its job" ?

What? CIA is withholding information from the American People?

SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!

What's wrong Doc?

You're hero in the White House screwing up so badly that you have to go and make something out of nothing?

That's twice today.

The Dems are desparate.

Isn't it wonderful? Bush & Co. spending millions of taxpayer dollars for an epic fail at killing terrorists.

I woulda done that for a quarter-mil, tops.

Just add this to Bush and Cheney's indictments.

this was Blackwater's bailout! (sorry, Xe)
and they didn't even have to kill anybody!

RE: #2 - NO, the CIA did not do its job! it's THEIR job to kill terrorists at large, not outsource the job to people who don't have to follow the rules. you or others here may think things like the Geneva convention are stupid, but it and other treaties like it have saved all of our lives! mercs that work for Blackwater rarely, if ever, answer for their horrific actions, and for the CIA to call them up to do the dirty work not only reeks of government/private sector canoodling, but it also presents a very stark picture of the state of our intelligence and military services.
we can't kill anybody anymore?
on 9/12 the whole country wanted to kill UBL with their bare hands, and we couldn't do it?!
i find it sad, but y'know what other people around the world will think?
'pathetic.'

god bless america, quick!

"on 9/12 the whole country wanted to kill UBL with their bare hands, and we couldn't do it?!"

We were poised to do it, but Bush opted to divert the necessary resources to Iraq so he could impress his daddy.

Really? Bush went outside his executive powers and told the CIA how to operate?

I don't believe a word of it. Too Draconian. Too Machiavellian. Not in this man's America.

Clinton was handed UBL on a silver platter, and said no thanks, on your knees again, Monica please.

Bush wanted him dead, that's clear.

BHO doesn't even consider him the enemy. Under Bush, more terrorists have been killed and captured than ever before in history.

As for this headline, let me correct it for you:
CIA CONSIDERED using Blackwater to kill Jihadists.

With congress second-guessing every policy and decision, the CIA was doing what it should - think outside the box for possible solutions to problems. Bad ideas (like this one) don't get very far (like this one). But still the America-haters want to find blame with patriots trying to do their job in spite of the Pelosi gang itching to throw them in jail.

Under Bush, more terrorists have been killed and captured than ever before in history.

Also more babies, children, woman, and assorted civilians. Ironic that Bush was fanatical about saving every unborn fetus, but had no problem bombing the hell out of Iraq's children.

There are no civilians in a war zone.

Civilians died in the US Revolution. Some people have no guts to fight for their own country to be free.

Notice how millions will flee a country to hundreds with guns. Imagine if they, like the colonists, choice to stand against odds and fight.

Civilians died in the US Revolution.

And bears shit in the woods, too...

Some people have no guts to fight for their own country to be free.

It is not our place to go about deciding which countries will receive the wonderful "gift" of "freedom" (and daily massacres).

Notice how millions will flee a country to hundreds with guns.

You left out the tens of thousands bringing their tanks, planes, and 2000-pound bombs. Millions have the sense to get out of the way when that shit happens.

Bush wanted him dead, that's clear.

Why did he let him go from Tora Bora? Why "couldn't" Bush find him in 7 plus years?

Maybe the Bush-bin laden family business ties got in the way?

Why did he let him go from Tora Bora? Why "couldn't" Bush find him in 7 plus years?

Maybe it is better for him to be alive and commanding a defunct organization than being dead and passing the torch on to others.

NO, the CIA did not do its job! it's THEIR job to kill terrorists at large, not outsource the job to people who don't have to follow the rules.

Are you naieve, or just a moron?

The CIA has always used proxies for assassination missions, when possible. It helps create 'plausible deniability.' Their job is to get the bad guy killed, regardless of who pulls the trigger.

Non story people...stay on message, i.e., health care, deficit spending, tax rate hikes, blame game, and the media not doing their job of questioning authority...

Eddie, I'm going to make this very simple so even a simpleton -- like, well, you -- should be able to follow this, okay?

The problem here, Eddie, is the CIA kept the information from Congress -- that doesn't mean every member of Congress, Eddie. Think about it. That pain you'll feel won't be because you ate your ice cream cone too fast; it's the result of rusty wheels in your noggin starting to grind into motion.

Here you go, Eddie; see if you can follow (a knack you have when it comes to Riiightoid drivel but one which, sadly, fails you when it comes to critical thought):

"What the agency was doing with Blackwater scares the hell out of me," said Jack Rice, a former CIA field operator who worked for the directorate of operations, which runs covert paramilitary activities for the CIA. "When the agency actually cedes all oversight and power to a private organization, an organization like Blackwater, most importantly they lose control and don't understand what's going on," Rice told The Nation. "What makes it even worse is that you then can turn around and have deniability...."
www.thenation.com

Right. We should post public announcements of our stealth ops and black bag activities. It's only fair.

And why a program to kill jihadists?

Er ... You don't get it? The only problem with the program was that it was not operative.

And Obama wouldn't want any of his buddies inadvertently killed. After all, he did spend some of his childhood in Indonesia, and he "hung" with Islamics in college. You've sometimes got to wonder where that abject confused creature's loyalties lie. Slowly any doubts will be resolved.

This is what the CIA is supposed to do. My only problem with this is that Blackwater is more interested in ripping us off than killing our enemies.

Beefers thinks that in most cases in the past the CIA has subbed out assassination work.... Bay of pigs... Several South American leaders in the late 1950's.... JFK..... Several terrorists in europe... Seems to be the norm.... What is the problem.... Is it against the G.C. to put a bullet through a mans head if your not wearing a CIA Patch?

Beefers thinks that is silly...

doc alert! This is old news so don't pay attention to it.

In fairness, given the FAIL that was the Bush Administration, including "where's America" Rice, "slamdunk Tenet", "we can arm interceptors?" Rumsfeld, and "greeted as liberators" Cheney, outsourcing national security might not have been a bad idea, especially following the monumental BUSHFAIL that was 9-11 and the WMD fiasco. Throw in the failed Venezuealan coup and the Three Stooges could have done a better job than Rice, tenet and Bush.

Shouldn't this headline read " CIA did its job"?

Yer not getting it.

Yes, the CIA is supposed to be the ones who achieve security objectives like turning terrorists into a fine bloody mist but here's the thing, they didn't.

Not only didn't they achieve the goal here but they didn't even attempt the job.

Instead the government spent billions on a sketchy corporate mercenary group to try and do the CIA's job.

Blackwater took that money and did nothing.

Privitising intelligence and special ops is fucking insane.

Bad precedent.

Slippery slope to Hell.

Be Well.

/G'morn, yes is Spud entering

Beefers thinks that people are quick to pass judgement and pass opinion on matters they have no knowledge of... Especially when it comes to 9/11 and the Iraq war....

Firstly...... as the the cause of 9/11 there is a papertrail a mile wide... O.B.L. should have died in 1999 when he was in the cross hairs of an armed drone over Afghanistan..... The Lawyers wouldn't pull the trigger though.... No actionable Intel... Ref MR Clinton and MR Burger....

Secondly...... As far as the Iraq war.... Good Day

It is not our place to go about deciding which countries will receive the wonderful "gift" of "freedom" (and daily massacres).

#14 | Posted by ZombieHunter

I agree it's not our responsibility to provide freedom.

But, if there is a war going on, civilian deaths will happen - the smart civilian either fights for their own freedom or flees. Staying put is suicide.

I was happy when Obama finally agreed to not release pictures and video of our "War Crimes" that were filmed by our imbedded reporters and soldiers themselves. War is a dirty business and until you are the one getting shot at and having friends die around you you have no right to judge the troops for their actions. You take a young marine that has been pinned down for hours under sniper fire that takes out two other marines and they finally catch the guy because he surrenders. The young Marine walks up and shoots him in cold blood because he just killed his two closest friends. Do you want to be the judge that sentences that marine? I would turn my back personally and send the young marine back for some rest. It's not an international incident either, it's another dead enemy combatant.

It's war people, it's not a walk in Central Park.

If the CIA was funding BlackWater to kill terrorist then good for them. It's unfortunate that Blackwater didn't do what they were paid for, or maybe they did and there was no record of those activities kept therefore the people involved could never be prosecuted for war crimes by Nancy Pelosi and her team of Freaks. Garunteed some bleeding heart Liberal is going to start a witch hunt to go after those whom were involved to make themselves look like Liberal Crusaders. More than half of us would love to be the one being paid to be behind the trigger on that job, if I was Blackwater I would say we never did it too, to protect the men and women that volunteered for it.

People need to stop bashing Bush as well. He is a good man from a good family. We all make mistakes and he made a few as do all presidents, look at JFK and the Bay of Pigs for god's sake. Yet the Liberal Dems make JFK out to be a god. The harder people criticise Bush the harder the criticism is going to become for our current Obamanation and the extreme corruption that is starting to be uncovered.

And keep your Race Card in your pocket. You take the most qualified presidential candidate of all times and run the least qualified candidate of all times against him and the least qualified wins, Why? Because voting for somebody based on the color of their skin and not their qualifications is Racism.

"Blackwater took that money and did nothing."

Exactly, that's my problem with it. You said we can't outsource this stuff and I agree but this is the main reason why.

If there were a company out there who would do an honest day's covert killing for and honest day's pay, I'd say go ahead and hire them.

But corporate America is infected with self desctructive greed and our government refuses to police contractors so we will always get the shaft. Hanging a few dozen of the top war profiteers that run these companies would probably help but the guilty parties all own our politicians so it ain't happening.

I woulda done that for a quarter-mil, tops.

Yeah. We all believe that you would risk your life and your head to go and chase down Al Qaeda members.

Also more babies, children, woman, and assorted civilians. Ironic that Bush was fanatical about saving every unborn fetus, but had no problem bombing the hell out of Iraq's children.

#12 | Posted by AndyB62

Are you saying that more innocents have lost their lives in Iraq than during any other war? Or, for that matter, any other genocide? Amazing what Bush hatred will make some people believe. Take a brief look at history and then tell us that Bush is responsible for more civilian deaths than anybody else.

Ironic that Bush was fanatical about saving every unborn fetus,

by claiming to be "pro-life" to get elected?

WTF else is he supposed to tell the prolife vote?

Isn't it wonderful? Bush & Co. spending millions of taxpayer dollars for an epic fail at killing terrorists.

I woulda done that for a quarter-mil, tops.

A faint glimpse back in time, before January, when everything was the president's fault. My how the times have changed.

Half of the people on this site choose to ignore these facts.... Seems it's one of the Mysteries in life...

First as to the cause of 9/11 there *is* indeed a papertrail a mile wide.

It starts when the US first began employing the mujahadeen and folk like Bin Laden to give the USSR "their Vietnam".

Armed, financed, trained and assisted by US forces they succeeded in driving the Soviets from Afghanistan.

At that point both Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein were considered friends of the US and the Bin Laden family especially had strong ties to the US most speciifically to the house of Bush.

The reason Clinton never took the shot at OBL in '99, aside from lack of actionable intel, was the fact that he was out hawking with memebers of the Saudi Royal family and that tio kill Bin Laden they woulda also killed the relatives of some folks who have entirely too much influence in DC.

Neither Dem nor Rethug woulda taken that shot at that time and to think anything else is to be completely delusional.

It does make an easily memorised talking point fer rtards tho.

Some years later this MR Burger was charged with stuffing the evidence of his total incompetence into his socks and down his pants at the national archive... Plead Guilty too... Half of the people on this site gave Mr. Burger a pass...

More Bushit.

Burger did wrong was charged and convicted but unlike the continual apologists for wars based on lies, torture and Sarah Palin's obvious stupidity lefties did NOT give him a pass.

Spud has heard the arguments over that issue time after time here at the Tort and the lefties almost as one did not condone that behaviour.

Secondly...... As far as the Iraq war.... When OPEC switches to the EURO standard for the purchase of oil like Saddam was attempting to get them to do, and your children are starving and freezing in the national depression that will follow, that same half of the people on this site and throughout America issuing passes today will want to kill every Arab on the planet

Why in God's name would people wanna kill Arabs fer switching to oil sales in Euros rather than the US dollar?

Does the American dollar deserve it's current status as the defacto world currency in light of the sasd state of the American economy?

Financial scandals, corporate corruption, an empty suit economy, over-consumption, under production, unsupportable twin deficits etc.

While still a giant in terms of the global economy the American economy is waning as China waxes.

You should be worried more about the yuan than the Euro.

Be Well.

"Really? Bush went outside his executive powers and told the CIA how to operate?"

Gotta hand it to ya, Eddie.

You make fwthom, TheOneBS, and Johnson look reasonable.

That is not easy.

"Yeah. We all believe that you would risk your life and your head to go and chase down Al Qaeda members."

Oh, Christ. Welcome to today's edition of Miss That Joke. Lemme 'splain it to ya, stoopit:

Blackwater got paid millions of dollars for accomplishing nothing.

I would be happy to accomplish nothing for the CIA much cheaper.

Geddit? Sheesh.

There is something about bunched panties that makes righties lose at least sixty I.Q. points, I swear.

Sammy V and Death Spud,

The CIA CANNOT assassinate due to the restrictions placed on it by the Congressional oversight committees.

You guys throw a fit when we just keep terriorist out of the US judicial system and throw a bit of water on them....can you imagine the shit that would hit the fan if it was proven that a CIA operative killed someone. That is why they CANNOT do the job. People like Gorelick and Holder that would come after the agents involved JUST for political gain..."screw the country - the Dems need power"

So they are forced to outsource the job...and they do and you see above several posts saying "another reason to impeach Bush".

The CIA tries to keep us safe with one hand tied behind its back due to dumb shits like ANDYB (who would also be the one screaming the loudest if one of those bastard blew up a building that his wife or child were in)

So until the left decides it actually American first BEFORE party and politics we will be faced with our security compromised as the guys in charge don't want to stick their necks out and become the next political football.

"Why in God's name would people wanna kill Arabs fer switching to oil sales in Euros rather than the US dollar?

and your children are starving and freezing in the national depression that will follow,

that same half of the people on this site and throughout America issuing passes today will want to kill every Arab on the planet.

Beefers thinks that spuds just refuses to see the point even though it was written....

Beefers also thinks Spuds doesn't live in the US...

Probably Canada?

A nation in decline... Health care system bankrupted.... Worthless money... Worthless land.... Worthless weather......

Bush wanted him dead, that's clear.

really? So is that why he let him go at Tora Bora? Spent Billions to NOT catch him is more likely. The two needed each other. I am sure Osama misses "Dead or Alive" Bush. Like Bugs Bunny misses Yosemite Sam. Now that Obama doesn't need a "boogieman" to prop up his Presidency (after all he has the Rethugs right?!)I'd say Osama best find hisself a deep deep spidy hole and crawl in and pull the lid down tight. Obama might send in the Navy Seal Snipers or fly a drone missile up his butt.

The C.I.A. spent several million dollars on the program, which did not successfully capture or kill any terrorist suspects.

oh yeah! Give me a Billion dollars (or preferably whatever was spent on Iraq... a Trillion Dollars?)and I will hand you Osama's head on a silver platter AND Universal Health Care and you can keep the platter. And I won't need any army. I ain't saying I would do it myself but I bet I can surely hire someone who will.

And THAT is no joke Mary.

A nation in decline... Health care system bankrupted.... Worthless money... Worthless land.... Worthless weather......

What did Leon want to do? Give them a time out?

MATO-
You like the idea of the executive branch of our gov't secretly (that is, hiding it from the other branches of gov't, and you) hiring corporations to carry out assassinations?

Maybe I should ask a different question: You like the idea of a "conservative" executive branch secretly hiring corporations to carry out assassinations?

Maybe you should first decide what question you want to ask?

You sound like the puss ass government of feel good and do no harm.

Yeah, I want the executive branch to kick some ass like Reagan did on that scum Kadafi. Two bunker busters sure put him in his place.

What the hell is wrong with you? You happy Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi was set free?

I ask again, what the hell is wrong with you?

That scum spent less than 8 years for killing over 200 people.

How can you defend that?

What the hell is wrong with you?

I like the idea of secret executions.

If I were president for 1 day, there would be no more islamic terrorists.

Not today, not tomorrow.

So, who authorized you to speak for me? I have only shown how many abortions were preformed since RvW in 73.
