You know, they laughed at Ron Paul and called him names when he suggested the Civil War should not have happen and that the slavery question could have been solved peacefully. I am glad you agree nullifidian that preserving the union was not worth all those people dying in the civil war. We should have let them leave. Independence from Dixie!

Its a tough question. A "few decades" might be inconsequential to you, but to those born into slavery I think it would be a much bigger issue.

Probably. But in the long run, this country would have been better to purge the racist bile from it's system. The confederacy couldn't have possibly sustained itself in the face of boycotts from the North and the rest of the world.

Seriously do people honestly still think the Civil War was fought over slavery. The North didn't give a damn about the slaves. Hell Lincoln originally wanted to ship all the slaves somewhere else. The Emancipation Proclamation was just a propaganda attempt to demoralize the Confederacy. The South got pissed because since the North had more people, they had more legislators, and as a result laws were passed that were beneficial to the Northern economy and detrimental to the Southern economy.

That aside. I think this lawmaker needs to get his priorities straight. What a nutter.
