"Other Americans" have for too long indulged the claim of "racism" as if such a charge commands that additional deference be extended to blacks and their particular concerns to the detriment of others.
It ignores the humanity of persons other than black persons, and assumes that the black experience is distinguished from the human experience and somehow that whites do not have human experiences that form them. There is vulnerability for all people. The individual environments differ. We may have one or two parents, or be orphans. We may have older or younger siblings who affect our outlook. We may be tall or short, or thin or fat, or whatever. But all people are subject to influences in their environment when developing. This undue emphasis on the black environment as if development is so different and as if white folks are insulated from such factors is at best nonsensical.
The practice in this country of extending benefits to blacks "as a class" as if somehow this should provide entitlement because of some past suffering of their ancestors denies the realities of each human being developing separately and experiencing his life in that development. Each white person (and by white the category in this context extends generically to all non-blacks), is subject to the same range of human experiences, has the same individual aspirations, and the same vulnerabilities and sensibilities and sensitivities.
This practice of "supersensitizing" black folks that so many lefties indulge reflects an implicit innate racism that distinguishes blacks as a class as unable to cope, and reflects the arrogance of those whites as able to allocate preferences to their inferiors.
Each individual white person also has aspirations and a life to live. To set those aside in a society and provide preferences to blacks constitutes cruelty as it distinguishes beneficiaries on the basis of race denying individual humanity.
As to compensating for past prejudice, in the war that brought freedom to the slaves, Americans suffered more than 600,000 dead out of a population of 31,443,321 persons of whom 27,489,561 were free and 3,953,760 were slaves. At least 618,000 Americans died in the Civil War, and some experts say the toll reached 700,000. The number that is most often quoted is 620,000. At any rate, these casualties exceed the nation's loss in all its other wars, from the Revolution through Vietnam. The Union armies lost some 360,222 dead. The Confederate armies lost 258,000 dead. Together with the wounded for both sides, total casualties were over 1,148,000. Americans paid a dear price in blood for emancipation.
Integration of the black population took place over some 145 years now. The current generation of blacks has received institutionalized privilege to the detriment of individual whites as evidenced by setasides for businesses, and preferences in admission to higher education, and financing and support while their, preferences in hiring based on racial quota systems, and the like.
To claim that a society which as a matter of policy has penalized its other members to accommodate blacks, is contrary to the facts as these accommodations could not have been made without the concurrence of the majority of this society. Enough is enough. The black race hustlers and their white counterparts, who deny the joint humanity of human beings need to be chastened. It's time. And these allegations of "racism" as they are invoked for advantage need to be deposited in the garbage bin of history. Just say "bullshit."
