Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

As expected, the monthly Consumer Price Index, reported by the government this morning was zero for the month of July. In comparison to a year ago, the CPI dropped 2.1 percent.

For most consumers, that's good news, but for the some 30 million senior citizens who receive Social Security benefits, this trend comes with a big downside: It means that their Social Security checks, which are pegged to the CPI, likely won't increase next year.

The government's measure of a "basket" of goods is complete bullshit and not reflective of actual costs of the average consumer.

Just like the unemployment figure.

Obama's fault!

We need to stop depending on Social Security. I will contribute to it, but not expect to benefit from it. I know the current group needs to be supported, but I am not counting on being taken care of by the governemnt. I suggest we all get this attitude. Then maybe we will live our own lives for once, worrying about what we do, and not what others do.

But is there a better answer?

Hell yes.

Revise the basket of goods to more accurately reflect the purchases of the consumer.

No increase in Social Security, huh? I better phone my 87 year old next door neighbor Anne and tell her to get busy updating her employment resume. Hope the employment agency doesn't have too many steps at the entrance. She finds it hard to get her walker up any stairs.

Social security's biggest problem is that it was set up as a Ponzi scheme.

If the same thing were done in the private sector, the originators would be prosecuted and thrown in prison.

I'm 40 years or more from retirement and I'm planning on not getting SS at all so I don't feel terribly sorry for these folks.
