Personal bankruptcy filings reached 1.25 million in the year ending June 30, up 34 percent from the year before, as Americans continued to grapple with debt, unemployment and devalued homes, according to figures released Thursday by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

The economy is doing so well that bankrupcy is being filed up by the millions.

It is without surprise to see this rise in bankrupcy, it has been going on for quite some time.

The surprise is that no one acknowledges the fact and doesn't see this as a problem within our economy.

We need to foucus on Health Care for all these poor people who are losing everything.

Well this is what happens when the growth in spending is fueled by credit and unrealistically overpriced real estate.

Bush

OK, everyboday say it with me, ready?

OBAMA'S FAULT!

The government lives on credit, why can't the people? I just don't know why anyone should live within their means.

I got an IOU from the state of California yesterday.. seriously.. I was due a tax refund from them on some business dealings, and they sent an IOU.

California's economic mess, writ large, is a predictor of the nation's unless Obama-Mania comes to an end.

IOU.

Ahnold.

Some idiot accused me of being upset that the "recovery" was well under way because I implied it was only recovering for the richest Americans. I wonder how all these bankrupt people feel the economy is doing.

Yes, Obama's fault. Look at the markets from the day he was elected until the resistance to his destructive policies started a few months ago: STRAIGHT DOWN.

Unemploymnet up. Way up.

Deficits up. Way up.

Efficacy of his TARP and stimulus spending: nil.

And on the horizon: Higher taxes. Lower employment. Inflation. Increased energy costs. Increased health costs.

So unless you're one of Obama's anointed special groups, you're out of luck so the filings will continue.

"The government lives on credit, why can't the people? I just don't know why anyone should live within their means."

Hey nit wit, who said "deficits don't matter?"

Clue: It wasn't a Democrat.

Ahhh, more of the Obama recovery. With friends like the democrats we don't need enemies.

I'm still not sure where you stand, But I had the exact same thing happen to me. It was my neighbor who is a big Obama supporter. He even donated the use of a building he owns for the Democrat headquarters during the election. Not that I have anything against the rich, but this is not a sustainable recovery. Until small business pick up this will coast in a downward spiral. And the winter is coming. He seemed to think, since I'm doing ok I shouldn't be complaining.

But, you didn't hear the printing presses in the background going full-tilt when he said it either.

just to name a couple:

2005 4.4% unemployment
RECORD federal tax revenues

then the dems took over

I love it; Republicans bitching about Obama, who has been in office 8 1/2 months...

It's going to take a bit more time for him to fix the all the crap your "special" president did for the last eight years: US economy, Europes economy, in fact the collapse of the global economy rests squarely on your parties shoulders. Not to mention two wars with no end...

What a bunch of self serving denial ridden traitors...

You don't care about the prosperity of America, nor the health and well being of Americans; "as long as that liberal black man doesnt succeed"...

Racist, partisan traitors...

the threat of the US drilling for oil died when the dems took over.............thus record gas prices that tipped the scale into recession

Hey nit wit, who said "deficits don't matter?"

Clue: It wasn't a Democrat.

Answer: It was a politician. They are all alike when they spend money that isn't theirs.

***"2005 4.4% unemployment"

Wow... And all this time I thought Obama took the reigns in 2009...

Oh that's right, obfuscation is the key to Republican retoric. Just keep regurgitating that same old neo-con mantra...

I think that American's have seen the Republican party for what it is: rich, fat, white, racist hypocrites followed by the scared, easily-lead and misinformed. Time for y'all to get your AARP cards and head to Country Kitchen and let the next generation take the reigns. We've all seen where your politics lead: The debacle that is haunting us right now, caused by the leadership of the last eight years...

When this depression is at its zenith, we can all thank the sheep in the Republican party, and the only people that profited from it: Bush and Co...

Thanks... Thanks a whole bunch...

nmg--I think I heard they are lifting the IOU's 08/31/09 ?? or 09/04/09 ??

Please check the partisan crazy stuff at the door--we are chalk full here at the DR ...

And while you are at it--thank all the Dems who contributed to this fiasco.

Wow you are just a bottomless pit of bullshit, huh?

Gas prices were at nearly $4.00 a gallon during most of Bush's presidency...

More obfuscation and denial from the right...

Getting deep in here or what?

I know, that's what I keep saying; you Republicans need to think of a new game plan...

***"And while you are at it--thank all the Dems who contributed to this fiasco"

Yeah... You seem to forget that untill 8 1/2 months ago YOUR party OWNED the Legislative, AND the Executive, AND the judicial branches of the US government. And, the American people won't let you wriggle out from under the finger of blame that easy... It's a new day... And a new America... Move over Gramps... We're taking over... Good riddance...

Racist, partisan traitors...

The following link holds a plethura of wonderful "generalizations". I guess You are the pot... And, the kettle...

www.drudge.com

And, the name calling is truly hurtful since I have SOOOOO much respect for you and your opinions. Your insight and deep thinking is also incredibly apparent @ the above link...

capt. you need to check your facts 2000-2006 gas never got over $2.60 you need to google before your open your mouth

www.zfacts.com

capt. again you need to check your facts; dems won congress. which is the house and senate

Yeah... Who was the President of the United States from 2006 - 2009??? Anyone, Anyone???

GWB. And the effects of his Dictatorship on fuel prices hadn't festered until 2006, which threw our country into a downward spiral that has brought us to where we are today...

Now we are seeing the full effects of his eight year reign... Thanks Republican sheep, and thank you Mr. "special" President Bush for selling out our country, and all of our futures. We have spent trillions of dollors cleaning up your mess. And, will spend trillions more before Obama and the Democrats can dig us out from under eight years of your inept failed policies...

In 2006 we barely leveled the playing field which allowed your elected Republican representatives to do what they do best: OBSTRUCT...

The Republicans blocked every preventative move the Democrats tried to make...

Just like they are doing now during the biggest crisis we now face HEALTHCARE...

The Republican party would rather see America go belly up than to see Obama succeed...

Traitors all without a cause OR EVEN A PLAN. Listen close, can you hear it? That weazing sound? It's your Republican party gasping its final dying breaths. Can you see the beast slowly shrivelling up and dragging its weathered impotent carcass back into the muck from whence it came...

It's a new day, filled with sunny, shiny, happy HOPEFULNESS. Thanks Barack...

Many fools believed that their house was an ATM machine. It never was that, only a place to live. Now after the foreclosure they can move out to a cardnoard box under a bridge and I will gladly spash them while I drive past and though a mud puddle with my gas guzzling SUV.

Let's see. Personal bankruptcy surges but George Bush and the republicans made it so that nobody could file for bankruptcy.

Interesting.

"Let's see. Personal bankruptcy surges but George Bush and the republicans made it so that nobody could file for bankruptcy. Interesting"

So it's much, much more difficult to file, yet more people are filing?

That must mean things must be much, MUCH worse, if the bar is higher, yet more are qualifying.

Just doing the math.

Obamanomics failing America.

At least Obama is not feeling the pinch. He is going on $25,000 taxpayer funded dates with his wife to NY, dining out with his wife in Paris, eating $100/pound wagyu beef at the White House, his wife carries a $900 clutch bag and wears $500 sneakers and his kids go to a swanky upscale private school so they don't have to mingle with the regular peon kids who are part of the masses.

Heck, there is no recession in the Obama household. Never was and never will.

#36 | Posted by utastaff | Flag: Add Short-Term Memory Loss to Previous Long-Term Memory Loss Diagnosis

Danforth has this right, it is much more difficult to file bankrupcy and yet more and more are qualifying to do so.

This economy is not doing well regardless of what this administration and media are trying to push...I liked it much better when obama started telling the truth....now he is just another lying politician.

Wow... And all this time I thought Obama took the reigns in 2009...

Who suthorizes spending? hint, it ain't the pres.

Who writes all the spending bills? hint, it ain't the pres.

Who was in charge of the money during the "great" clinton years when the budget was in control? hint, it wasn't clinton.

Good thing the recession is over--I read it on this very site a few days ago. Otherwise, headlines like this might be of considerable concern.

2006 - 2009 it was the legislative branch which was deadlocked by Republican obstructionist...

***"Who was in charge of the money during the "great" clinton years when the budget was in control? hint, it wasn't clinton"

During the clinton years a monkey could have made millions on wall street, so keeping checks and balances on the purse strings, when the purse is over flowing, is much the same... A monkey could do it; enter the Republians...

Don't worry, Obama and the Demoocrats will dig us out of this mess that your guys got us into over the last eight years. We'll be okay, thanks to their deft political and financial experience. And, we'll all have healthcare to-boot. That's what our elected representatives are there for, that's why we vote them into office...

As you are a Republican I don't expect you to understand this...

Funniest post of the day. When you get an Obama cabinet that isn't populated with tax cheats, get back to me about "financial experience".

Yeah, you're right, I should have said "financial expertise"...

Thank you for the correction...
