Charles Krauthammer: What happened to Obamacare? Rhetoric met reality. As both candidate and president, the master rhetorician could conjure a world in which he bestows upon you health-care nirvana: more coverage, less cost. But you can't fake it in legislation. Once you commit your fantasies to words and numbers, the Congressional Budget Office comes along and declares that the emperor has no clothes.

Tort reform would yield tens of billions in savings. Yet you cannot find it in the Democratic bills. And Obama breathed not a word about it in the full hour of his health-care news conference. Why? No mystery. The Democrats are parasitically dependent on huge donations from trial lawyers.

No offense Joe but as for Moder8...

Betsy McCaughey's (pronounced "McCoy") take on health care reform.

Whatever health insurance bill is passed in Congress MUST apply to members of Congress and other federal employees.
No Exceptions.

If it isn't good enough for them, it isn't good enough for us.

AGREED

I wrote my Senators and COngresswoman saying just that. No response yet from any of them.

B-b-b-but Krauthammer is a stupid, white "neo-con"...or "corporatist"...or...any other spooky-sounding label I can affix to someone or something without having a fucking clue as to its meaning.

And he's crippled, too.

Actually, it was a Shakespeare character trying to kill the king and take over the kingdom. He wanted to get rid of all the lawyers because he knew they were the biggest problem in preventing him from taking over. The next thing he wanted to get rid of was books and reading. Idiot.

strange...krauthammer was an obama fan BEFORE he was elected...eyes being opened across this nation.

What?

What a bunch of crap...nationwide, we pay only about 12-13 billion dollars in med mal insurance premiums a year. hardly catastrophic. The real problem is that there is a ton of medical malpractice because hospitals, especially doctors, do stupid things.

And all these conservatives favor tort reform until its their arm that gets cut off or their blood transfusion goes bad. Or its their kid that gets killed.

Maybe we should be finding ways to cut down on med mal before we find ways to screw the people who are hurt by doctors and their staff. But I get it...that's not the conservative way. And it doesn't attack Obama. So that's a problem.

uh nanc...baby...

you are going to have to explain this one..I dont remember...maybe you are talking about him hoping for the best and wishing that he would fix things..

of course we are seeing just how wrong that shit was arent we????

I read this and he is so spot on right that I am sure there will be numerous questions of the legality of his birth from the left here...

MAKE SURE you all read the parts about the obama promise of 'revenue neutral' CODE WORD..TAX the stupid bastards...
and the comments on defensive medicine are right on
REMEMBER too that this smart man was a doctor at one time also...

I think she may be confusing Krauthammer with Paul Krugman.

Another example of ruthless Rethuglican talking points, who wage a highly disciplined class war.

One of the things these professional liars say, that often correctly take us all for idiots, is that most people are very happy with their current health insurance. Yeah right.

it's because he's a joke.

nut

so let me get this straight
I am supposed to slurp up the BULLSHIT about there being almost 50 billion people without insurance that we need to help but when an opposing view comes from a PULITZER PRIZE winner..well he's just a professional liar..
what a crock..........

I am supposed to slurp up the BULLSHIT

Wait till they really get sick. Then as all rethugs to they get REAL religion on their death bed ala Lee Atwater. And I hope it was preventable.

will canada give me free health care if i sneak across their border and take my whole family?

"strange...krauthammer was an obama fan BEFORE he was elected...eyes being opened across this nation."

This is the Thread where the WingDings embrace a Nobel Prize wining, foreign educated Canadian, effete elitists, who used to like to Claim Bush was Going to be a Reagan 3!

Funny how they apply those "principles" (like reeds in the wind)!

The Party of No in action:
Washington, DC How's this for a health care plan? It will make your premiums go upin fact, it will double health costs over the next ten years. It will strip millions of Americans of their coverage. It will send our deficit through the roof.

That, as President Obama recently pointed out, is the health care plan we choose by doing nothing. That is the status quo, and it will be the health care plan we end up with if health insurance reform fails.

And although no one will come out and argue for a plan that doubles costs and cuts coverage, we are being pushed in just that direction by transparent attempts to kill reform for partisan gain. As one Republican Senator put it, "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." Another said this about efforts to cover millions more Americans: "We can stall it. And that's going to be a huge gain for those of us who want to turn this thing over in the 2010 election."

Party before Country. Every damn day of the week.

Obama has to horse-trade to get us most of what we need. The fleas come with the dog. We do not live in a dictatorship, despite the right's talking points. Im sorry, that was socialist or marxist or whatever it is this week.

What happened is that the insurance mafia wins both ways.

Nothing happens = they win.

Obama plan = massive payout to insurance mafia and the public gets nothing. i.e. they win.

When the people don't fight, the owners get what they want. ALL THE TIME.

If it's so awful, why do we have it for our veterans?

and it's broken, ron - they need to fix what they already have control of.

Actual malpractice would still be addressed in the courts. Tort reform would take away the lottery-sized awards that have no basis in reality.

But that would make ambulance chasers cry, and cut off the single biggest source of special-interest funding for Democrats. And that makes you cry.

My HOPE is that little black boy succeeds in failing.
And America can be saved from this group of immature, clueless assclowns.

But for now, welcome to the obamanation of desolation, obama's 3rd world ghetto slum.

25% includes Illegals and lazy fucks who have always expected a free ride? I would have guessed 26.132%.

tort reform although still needed..only amounts to less than 1% of the total cost of healthcare premiums..fact not fiction

Krauthammer is a pompous dweeb who looks like a puppet from a Middle Ages puppet show.

Eberly you full of shit and since your an insurance saleman what you have to say means very little....we know your going to protect the industry.

tort reform should be expanded and awards should be 3 time higher than they are now.

Nope. Got it wrong--well sort of...

Krathammer is simply a tool of a mouthpiece
for the Right. He is strictly Party Line.
Go ahead, read his articles if you can stomach
them. They all read like Rush Limbaugh talking
points. Hence, he has Zero real credibility.

In essence, he is yet another overpaid mouthpiece
(ala Rush and O'Liely) toating the corporate line of the Right, that all is well with supplied side economics, that it isn't to blame for the mess we are in, that one should instead blame Obama for everything that Bush did to the economy so that we can return to power, and what you can't rationally blame on the Left try to label and stick the Left with.

The only ones that believe these mouthpieces are the hopelessly lost Rightys that can't wake up on a given morning without blogging their irrational hatred of "dat Black Man in da White House", before having their morning cup of coffee. (you know like
Afkabl2, Rightnut, Vernon, and to a lesser degree Goatman, on this site)...

Take a pill people. Obama's not that bad. The Stock Market and the housing sector are already showing signs of recovery. We will get through this, although it will be tough and there will be
bumps along the way...

"Take a pill people. Obama's not that bad."

Well, he damn sure ain't "all that good" either. THIS comes out of England.

sure...see my other post on Biden's big mouth...

The Extreme Left bomb throwers. If they don't like the message, they villify, dehumanize, demonize the messenger...and usually expose themselves for the obscenely partisan hacks that they are. Lacing the invectives with profanity only reinforces the inanity of their posts.

Its intersting we want Canadian healthcare, but not all of it, perhaps we should look at the whole Canadian system....

For neurosurgeons in Miami, the annual cost of medical malpractice insurance is astronomical $237,000, far more than the median price of a house.
In Toronto, a neurosurgeon pays about $29,200 for coverage. It's even less in Montreal ($20,600) and Vancouver ($10,650).
In 1978, the Canadian Supreme Court limited damages for pain and suffering. Adjusted for inflation, the cap now is just over $300,000. The United States has no federal cap on damages, though a few states, including Florida, have imposed them.

Its intersting we want Canadian healthcare, but just the FREE part, perhaps we should look at the whole Canadian system....

There fixed that...

#57: Thats what folks here in the states don't want to face.

Part of the deal is to give up your rights to damages if things don't go right.
